Can we say awkward?! It seems that’s the word the best describes Martha Stewart’s encounter with Olympic Gold super gymnast, Gabby Douglas on the “Today” show. The two were sitting backstage together, obviously both well-known enough to be on the show, when Martha asked Gabby who she was. Gabby demurely responded, “I’m Gabby.” Martha responded with a statement that could easily be interpreted as an insult, “I didn’t recognize you with clothes on.”

Well, I’ll be! Martha Stewart doesn’t recognize a woman who’s made history as the first Black woman to win individual all-around champion as well as being the first American gymnast to win gold in both the individual all-around and team competitions at the same Olympics? Ok, so maybe she didn’t watch the Olympics last year. And Martha certainly didn’t eat any Corn Flakes either because Gabby graced plenty of boxes of that cereal.

According to Huffington Post, Stewart’s rep confirmed the incident to the Post and said that the domestic goddess was simply used to seeing Douglas in her gymnastics uniform. That’s like telling Michael Jordan you have no idea who he is when he’s not wearing his famed “23” jersey. Seriously, Martha. You can do better than this. Martha’s rep continued her clarification of Martha’s flub, “Martha was accustomed to seeing Gabby in her Olympic unitard and her gold medal.”

Gabby appeared on the show to promote her book, “Raising The Bar,” while Martha was on attempting to join the world of online dating. She told Matt Lauer, “I’d like to have breakfast with somebody. I’d like to go to bed with somebody. Sleep with somebody.” Oh, well that makes more sense now. Martha doesn’t know Gabby because her focus is trying to lure a man in her bed.

Martha who!? Oh I’m sorry. I didn’t recognize you outside of prison stripes.
