Michelle Obama’s passionate Let’s Move Campaign has inspired our country to get up, get out and get moving. This can definitely be said for Sheena Simmons of East Hempfield Township. The mother of three was inspired by the FLOTUS’ initiative to fight childhood obesity and started her own movement–Youth Week — I Rock the Community. Approximately 600 youth participate in this week of free and discounted activities for youth, including sports, tours and prizes.

For the last three years, Simmons has been working with the program to develop, build and empower future leaders in her community. Her incredible work with this organization hasn’t gone unnoticed. Recently at a gathering at the White House for Let’s Move Faith & Communities, Simmons received a personal thank you for her work from Michelle Obama herself!

According to local news, the event was to honor the efforts of individuals and neighborhood organizations who are providing innovative programs and opportunities for families to make healthier choices; are encouraging increased activity; and are providing access to healthy and affordable food.

Congrats to Sheena Simmons and all the other community leaders who received special thank you’s from the FLOTUS. It’s heart-warming to see the work that people put into their communities without expecting anything in return.

What are you doing in your community?
