According to LaLa Anthony, her marriage to Carmelo Anthony is “wonderful,” but that doesn’t mean they’ve never hit a rough patch during their 10-year relationship.
“If anyone says in 10 years you don’t go through ups and downs, they’re lying to you. We’re in a real relationship. We have our ups and we have our downs, but we definitely work through them, and we’re great right now,” LaLa told “Access Hollywood” in response to rumors that she and Carmelo have been having marital problems.
Though they’re fine now, LaLa admitted that there was some drama, but that’s behind them now.
“We have worked it out,” said LaLa who explained that the two had some adjusting to do after Carmelo was traded to the New York Nicks.

“I think a lot of the changes also happened when he got traded to New York. Now, you’re in New York City. It’s a huge city. Everybody wants him. He’s getting pulled in a million directions,” said LaLa found herself equally busy, if not moreso, than her hubby.
“My career’s taking off in New York, as well. I’m getting pulled in a million directions. You just have to take marriage a priority and put as much work into that as you do other things in our lives,” said LaLa whose VH1 series airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. EST.
Like with most things in life, LaLa said there are ups and downs to her marriage.
“The downs are having two intense careers and remembering to put the marriage first and remembering to work as hard in the marriage as we do in our careers and being parents and everything else. He’s traveling all over the world being a basketball player. I’m working between New York and L.A. So, it gets difficult sometimes when you’re trying to juggle that and be married,” she said.
On the flip side of the coin, there are plenty “up” times for the couple, too.
“The highs are, he’s my best friend. I’ve been with him for 10 years. He’s my best friend and we get through the hard times because we know that we want this marriage to work and we want to be together,” she LaLa who denied rumors that the two actually split for a time.
“We didn’t separate. That was definitely a rumor. We stayed together. We worked through it. I choked him a couple of times,” she joked.
The on-court incident between Carmelo and fellow NBA baller Kevin Garnett didn’t help the rumors. Kevin reportedly suggested that LaLa tasted like Honey Nut Cheerios while playing against Carmelo, who had a talk with Kevin after the game.
“A woman always wants her man to stick up for her, but not in the sense to where he gets in trouble… They did talk it out and everything was fine,” said LaLa. “I didn’t take it personally. I know things are said in the heat of battle. I’m just glad they were able to work through that.”
