For nearly 13 years fans of the romantic comedy The Best Man have patiently waited for a sequel, and now the wait is finally almost over. In a recent interview with ABC News, Terrence Howard shared details about the film’s plot and the new surprises viewers can expect the second time around.
“I think it’s going to be amazing film and I get teary-eyed thinking about it because there’s some tragedy in it. That’s all I’ll say,” Howard said at a press conference to promote his latest film Dead Man Down.
But, despite trying to keep his composure, Howard couldn’t resist but to reveal more. He shared that the film’s original director, Malcolm D. Lee, is back and that the sequel’s plot has a new, dark twist.
“[Director and screenwriter] Malcolm Lee showed us what intelligent young black people were capable of in the The Best Man I, but The Best Man II, it shows where people go, whether they’re doing the right thing or the wrong thing, and how much we need each other within our community.”
The sequel is titled The Best Man Holiday and it’s scheduled to hit theaters on November 15th with the original cast members — Nia Long, Sanaa Lathan, Morris Chestnut and Taye Diggs.
In a recent interview with ESSENCE.com, Diggs revealed that the cast will start production next month. “I’ve been texting and emailing people. Everyone’s really excited. The script’s done and it’s good,” he said.
We can’t wait!
