The 2013 Academy Awards are inches away. But, as you know, the Oscars can be rather discriminatory to blacks. We’re invited but we more often than not, we go home empty-handed. Critics want us to believe, that black film just isn’t as good as the rest of the world–that it lacks profound scripts, massive budgets or integrity. That couldn’t be the farthest from true. Have they not seen “What’s Love Got To Do With It,” or classic treasures like “Malcolm X?”
We can’t go back in time, but we can do our black actors and actresses justice by highlighting the films that have helped shape black cinema. Therefore, we are presenting this select group of individuals with Roscoe Awards (Retro + Oscars)!
