Robert Townsend’s daughter, Skye Townsend and recently signed Atlantic Records recording artist, Kendall Amyre Ferguson have both landed roles in the teen R&B musical set in the 90’s, “Get the Pearls.” Think Dreamgirls meets Mean Girls.

Hooray for Black Hollywood! There’s starting to be more roles and opportunities for young talent to show off their chops. You may be familiar with Skye Townsend, especially if you’re an avid YouTuber. Skye boasts almost 2.5 million viewers on her YouTube channel. Skye’s talents range from singing to comedy to spot-on Beyonce impersonations. She’s definitely an incredible young talent that we’re hoping to see more of! She’s set to play “Sonya,” a member of hip hop group, Diamondz ‘N Da Ruff.

Kendall Amyre Ferguson is an actress and singer who just landed a record deal with Atlantic. Kendall got her start on Hub’s miniseries, “Clue” as Agnes Peabody. In Pearls, Kendall plays “Candy,” the group leader of The Pearls–the rival to Skye’s group. Both girls are uber talented and it’s exciting to see more roles for young, black actresses.

Get the Pearls is written by former E! News Producer turned entertainment blogger, Carlton Jordan. Jordan, who’s also worked for “Eve“, MTV, VH1, and numerous reality shows, is currently casting more of young Hollywood for the project. He states, “This film will be filled with the next generation of teen stars and musicians, along with cameos from your favorite 90’s era legends! I am very much in love with the idea that this project aims to create a group of black teen queens and heartthrobs–maybe our very own Breakfast Club!

Get the Pearls pays homage to girl groups from the 90′s, and to films from that period such as School Daze, House Party, and Poetic Justice. Sounds like it’s going to be a great movie with a fresh nostalgia.
