“Basketball Wives LA” star Jackie Christie’s mother has died from cancer. Jackie revealed the news today while on air with “The Tom Joyner Morning Show” saying, “She’s had a long fight with this, so I know she’s in a better place and it was her time. We’re okay with it.”
If you’ve been watching the show this season, you know that the cameras have been following Jackie and her sister as they cope with their mother’s failing health. And if you were wondering if mama made it to Jackie’s 16th wedding celebration, she did!
“She did make it in time for that, so that would be my special wedding out of the 16 that we’ve had. In tonight’s episode, she’ll be there. They made it happen. I’m very thankful to VH1 for doing that.”
The radio hosts also asked Jackie how she felt about the show’s portrayal of black women:
“I know I’ve been made a mockery of for a long time as far as my relationship with my husband, but one thing I’ve never did was waiver in my faith or in the fact that I love Doug and he loves me. In this day and age, you don’t see a lot of strong marriages. I wanted to be a part of the show so I could dispel the rumors and, being with a cast, I felt like people could actually see the whole spectrum of the different relationships, the women. I didn’t know the young girl would be brought in until we got underway with filming and a lot of misconceptions was out there and I think the way it started off – with the fight – that was something that got way out of hand. I tried to jump in and break it up, but I almost thought it was necessary so people could see the passion between the women.”
“I don’t condone violence, I tried everything I could to tell them: ‘be passionate, talk about it, if you need to yell and scream that’s fine, but keep your hands to yourself.’ But I think it’s a good show and if everyone waits until the very end, they’ll be quite surprised.”
