A young Houston, Texas, mother was killed in a drive-by shooting Tuesday afternoon, New York Daily News reports.
Kendra Childs, who would have turned 20 on September 15, was discovered dead in her home after a Camaro with tinted windows drove by her house, firing several shots through her apartment wall.
“If you can see it’s just a blank wall, they wouldn’t have had known someone was exactly in there and it was a very unlucky shot,” Mark Holdbrook of the Houston Police Department told ABC 13.
Although police have not named suspects, social media has gathered around the hashtag #RIPKendra to point to possible suspects.
Child’s boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend, whose Twitter handle is @_LadyKocaine, reportedly tweeted out a thread of threatening comments before Child’s murder.
A message from August 11 read, “Nothing makes me mad about a b—- saying she was with my n—- or whatever cause like I tell him… the hoe won’t be around too long.”
In another tweet, the woman, who goes by “LingLingBaby,” wrote, “My plan is to plot for a year… And I’m gone kill them people. [I don’t give a f—] if the [police] see this.”
Back in January, published another damning message, “I think I’m really evil enough to eat a [mother f—–] alive! Like b—- [I don’t give a f—] about you… I’ll real life kill you and eat you b—! F— you.”
The day before the Houston shooting, Ling wrote: “Praying everything goes good [tomorrow]. But I just know it will.”
Speculation about these very public threats have many Twitter users questioning the platform’s bullying and threat policies:
Overcome by grief, Child’s cousin spoke out:
“I feel very broken, and it just hurt because she didn’t deserve to go like this,” cousin Angel Whitaker told ABC 13. “I understand it was her time, but she didn’t have to go like this. She didn’t even make it to her birthday tomorrow.”
This tragic death comes amid numerous high-profile drive-by slayings of women, including Janelle Monáe and Dwyane Wade‘s cousins.
For the sake of her family, particularly the 2-year-old daughter Child leaves behind, we hope the perpetrators are brought to justice expeditiously.
