Trump Supporters Memorial Dedicated To 22-Year-Old Omega Psi Phi Law Student Who Lost His Life

The Black greek community at the James Madison University took to social media to express their anger with Trump supporters. On Saturday morning, students woke up to see that a memorial rock dedicated to Jeffrey Allan Matthews, a deceased member of Omega Psi Phi, was painted over with the words “TRUMP 2016.”
Matthews died last week and the rock was painted on Friday. According to a WatchTheYard.com, source “the Omega vigil was last seen at 2am and the Trump one was seen at 7am, meaning that the vigil was only up for a total of 5 hours and someone decided to paint over it between the hours of 2 and 7am on a Saturday morning,” the website wrote. NYPD Lieutenant Who Oversaw Postal Worker’s Arrest Stripped Of Badge

The NYPD lieutenant who oversaw the arrest of an on-duty postal worker in Brooklyn earlier this month has been stripped of his badge and gun and placed on modified duty, the NY Daily News reported.
According to the New York Daily News, an on duty mailman Glenn Grays, 27, yelled at an unmarked car that almost slammed into his work truck. From there, police believed that the situation warranted four plainclothes police officers and a lieutenant to approach Grays, who at the time was carrying a large brown box. Grays was arrested and his mail truck left unwatched.
Weeks later, a video surfaced of the arrest and went viral sparking an investigation by the Internal Affairs, the Daily News noted.
While Grays, says he wants for the police involved to be disciplined, but not fired from their jobs. “Honestly speaking, we’re all human, we all make mistakes, but lately a lot of mistakes have been made by police officers,” Grays said.(New York Daily News)
Oh No! Chicago’s murder rate soars 72 Percent

New data released from the Chicago Police Department found that homicide rates in The Windy City have increased a whopping 72 percent and shootings 88 percent in the first three months of 2016 compared with the same period last year.
According to USA Today, the city has seen 141 murders this year, compared with 82 murders at the same point last year. Police reported 677 shootings this year compared with 359 compared to 2015; 468 murders in 2015, a 12.5 percent increase from the year before; and 2,900 shootings in 2015, 13 percent increase.
“While CPD will remain tireless in its efforts to hold criminals accountable for their actions, we all have a part to play in creating a safer Chicago,” newly appointed interim Superintendent Eddie Johnson said in a statement.
“In the coming weeks and months, I plan on meeting with and listening to a range of Chicagoans — from activists and elected officials to ministers and parents — to find ways that we can come together to build mutual trust and lasting partnerships that will make our streets safer for everyone,” he said. Philadelphia Apologizes to Jackie Robinson For Racist Treatment

Some 70 years ago, Black baseball icon and Brooklyn Dodger’s Jackie Robinson faced some of the most aggressive racial attacks playing on the field, especially against Philadelphia’s team. Now the city has issued a statement apologizing for Robinson’s treatment.
On Friday, Philly officials wrote, “Philadelphia was one of the most disappointing places where he experienced racism,” said Philadelphia city councilwoman Helen Gym, who introduced the unanimously passed resolution.
During a game where the Phillies traveled to Brooklyn to play about Robinson’s team in 1947, Phils manager Ben Chapman led the bench in crude taunting of Robinson such as, “Go back to the cotton fields,” and “They’re waiting for you in the jungles, black boy,” Philly.com noted.
“I have to admit that this day,” Robinson wrote in 1972 of his first encounter with the Phils, “of all the unpleasant days of my life brought me nearer to cracking up than I have ever been.”
In addition, the city has appointed April 15 as a day to honor Robinson’s lifetime achievements. April 15, 1947, was the day he broke the color barrier in America’s favorite pastime. (Philadelphia Inquirer)
