Police: Use Dating Apps With Caution

New studies have found nearly 1 and 3 marriages within the past ten years began as online relationships. Between Tinder, Kik, PlentyOfFish, CoffeeMeetsBagel, WhereBlackPeopleMeet and countless others; apps literally places dating at your fingertips. Unfortunately, the ease and comfortability of online dating typically includes less of a vetting process which can lead to dire results. An increasing number of women are reporting sexual assaults that were precipitated by online relationships. Many of the assailants then delete their accounts, block their victim on the app and/or change their photos making it harder for women to provide necessary information about their assailant. Police believe Jesus Madrid-Dubon, 27, is among a growing number of predators who use social media and dating apps to rape women. He has been charged in connection with four 2014 rapes in Dallas. Prior to an in person meeting with someone you connected with online, women (and men) are encouraged to take screen shots of the person’s profile and their photos, meet in a public setting–with a group if possible, tell other friends about the date and let them know you’ve safely made it home. Dallas News

Is It Over? Trump Loses Iowa Caucus

“Let me first say, to God be the glory,” Ted Cruz told supporters at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. The winner of the Iowa Caucus upset projected front runner Donald Trump. “Tonight is a victory for the grass roots…Iowa has sent notice that the Republican nominee and the next president of the United States will not be chosen by the media…but will be chosen by the most incredible powerful force, where all the sovereignty resides — by we the people” said Cruz. Trump predicted that he would win, even though he failed to engaged Iowa residents and very rarely attended events in the state. In true Trump fashion, the mogul predicted prior to the election that he would have a “tremendous” victory. With nearly 99% of the GOP vote in, Cruz was ahead of Trump by a mere four percent with 28% of the votes to the Trump 24%. Marco Rubio was a strong third place contender with 23% of the vote. During his concession speech, Trump is still confident about his political future. “We will go on to get the Republican nomination and we will go on to easily beat Hillary or Bernie,” Trump told supporters. “We finished second, and I have to say I am just honored.” As Trump heads to New Hampshire, with a wide lead in the polls he’s expected to win when the election takes place on February 9th. CNN

Democrats Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders in a ‘virtual tie’ in Iowa

Hillary Clinton was most likely on the edge of her seat Monday evening awaiting the results from the Iowa election. She and Bernie Sanders were deadlocked in the polls during the first presidential caucuses. Sanders was hoping to replicate Obama’s road to the presidency by using a victory in Iowa to propel his ideals of “democratic socialism”. Initially, in the midst of the tie, Clinton released a politically correct statement saying, “I am excited about really getting into the debate with Senator Sanders about the best way forward to fight for us and America.” Apparently, the Democratic party officials have not yet declared a winner but Clinton has since released a statement touting her victory. “After thorough reporting — and analysis — of results, there is no uncertainty and Secretary Clinton has clearly won the most national and state delegates.” Coincidentally, Clinton’s campaign released a second statement that the results haven’t been finalized.  NY Times

Child’s Body Found In Street; Ejected From Car Crash

Last Sunday Dorothy Wright, 75, and her two grandchildren, Layla, 6, and 12-year-old Cameron, were heading to First Peter AME Church at about 9:15 a.m. when they were fatally struck by a man suspected of stealing a 2015 Chevrolet Suburban from the Westin hotel in College Park. Police said the 6-year-old girl wasn’t initially reported as a victim of the crash because she was completely ejected from the vehicle. Layla was found heavily covered with shrubbery near the crash. After leading police on a 10-mile chase, officers said they briefly lost sight of the vehicle after it hit the victims car. The driver of the stolen Suburban fled the scene and has not been apprehended. Police chased him from College Park to southwest Atlanta. The high-speed chase ended on South Gordon Street and Rogers Avenue, when the 1995 Buick LeSabre that the grandmother was driving flipped over on impact. College Park police Chief Keith Meadows wants the Fulton District Attorney’s office to investigate whether police may have incited the accident by failing to properly follow the department’s chase policy.  AJC
