While we understand the need to discipline a child, some tactics are abusive. Allegedly, The Kinder Care Daycare in Eagan, Minnesota put a 4-year-old girl in “time out” for screaming in class. She was made to stand outside of the building where it was merely 3 degrees. The added windchill made the frigid air feel like -9.

A woman who lived in the area witnessed the little girl standing outside, without a coat, and called police. Fortunately, the toddler did not require medical attention.

“Punishing a child by putting them outside in single digit temperatures is obviously not ok. So that’s what we are trying to determine if that’s what happened,” said Officer Aaron Machtemes of the Eagan Police Department.

Machtemes added that a further investigation is needed to ascertain how long the child was outside and “how out of control the child was” before criminal charges can be filed against the daycare and it’s staff.

Since news first broke about the incident, other parents have begun to question their children’s safety. “I don’t believe anyone here would discipline a child like that or that that is how a child should be disciplined in any way. Anywhere,” said a parent of a Kinder Care participant.

The State Department of Child Services is also investigating The Kinder Care Daycare and its disciplinary practices. The center, which has positive reviews online could be in danger of having its child care license revoke for violations such as failure to supervise a child and child neglect.
