Paula Dean is just ridiculous.

The end of Black History Month is near so what better time for the ignorant and mostly inappropriate Paula Dean to emerge from the candy yam and butter casserole she was hiding in and make a ridiculous statement comparing herself to…wait for it… “that black football player.”

Sigh.

That Black football player she is referring to is NFL prospect Michael Sam, who announced that he was gay. Though Sam is not yet in the NFL he will potentially be drafted. First Lady Michelle Obama, tweeted (signed “mo” so you know it’s real) her support for Sam after he came out during interviews on ESPN and  The New York Times.

Paula Dean, who was in trouble for using the “n-word” and making some pretty racist comments about Blacks last year, said:

“I’m fighting to get my name back,” adding, “I feel like ’embattled’ or ‘disgraced’ will always follow my name. It’s like that black football player who recently came out,” says Deen, referring to NFL prospect Michael Sam. “He said, ‘I just want to be known as a football player. I don’t want to be known as a gay football player.’ I know exactly what he’s saying.”

We think Paula just wants to be known for her cooking abilities instead of being known for controversy like Michael Sam who too would like to be acknowledged for his skill and not his sexuality. However, Paula you are no Michael Sam.

“I made eight cakes in six days,” she continued.  Because “baking cakes is totally a feat that should be acknowledged by Nobel Peace Prize,” said no one ever….

“I used to have dreams that I lost everything,” Deen went on. “And when it finally happens, you think, ‘I’m still alive.'” As for what’s she’s learned, she says, “Michael told me, ‘You’ve learned how badly words can hurt and how powerful they are.’ I have been hurt by them, and I unintentionally hurt others. But I don’t want that to define who I am.”

So we’re supposed to feel bad for Paula because she likes to be served by slaves and openly use the “n-word?” Yeah. No!

Have a seat Paula…several.
