It’s been five years since a woman, who looks remotely ethnic has been cast on “Saturday Night Live,” but that has all changed after a nationwide talent search yielded Sasheer Zamata. Finally a Black woman has “proved herself worthy” to be the sketch comedy and variety show and it only took: a controversial comment from Black SNL comedian Kenan Thompson about the lack of diversity on the cast, a nationwide backlash to said comments and Kerry Washington’s record-breaking ratings on SNL to be the catalyst to do so.

But hey, we’re not bitter!

Sasheer graduated from the University of Virginia three years ago and trained at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York. Sasheer, who rocks a natural fro, got her feet wet in stand-up comedy and web series like “Once You Go Black…” The young graduate joins two other Black cast mates, Jay Pharoah and Kenan Thompson making her the fifth Black woman to be added to SNL’s tropes since 1975.

Congrats!
