Looks like Madonna doesn’t know standard moviegoer etiquette!

According to repots, the Material Girl made a surprise appearance at the New York City screening of Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave earlier this week, and she caused a big disturbance by texting throughout the film.

One audience member described the pop star as “a mysterious blonde in black lace gloves who wouldn’t stop texting on her Blackberry throughout the first half of the movie.”

Not knowing that the “mysterious blonde” was Madanna, and fed up by her behavior, the lady “tapped her on the shoulder and told her to put her phone away.”

The New York Post’s Page Six reports the 55-year-old superstar shot back, “It’s for business…enslaver!”

Considering the context of the film — about a freed black man who is sold back into slavery — that definitely wasn’t the most appropriate thing for Madonna to say.

“Some people are shocked by this, because Madonna was visibly tearing up,” Us Weekly reports. “Everybody there thought that she was very moved by it. She really wanted to say hello to Steve McQueen and congratulate him.”

The film, which hits theaters on October 18, is already receiving Oscar buzz.
