Gabrielle Union, Tika Sumpter, Mara Brock Akil and Debra Lee flashed their red carpet smiles last night at The Urbanworld Film Festival for the world premier of BET’s “Being Mary Jane,” a made for TV film the network intends to turn in to a series.

Union stars as Mary Jane Paul, a cable network anchor who is struggling to find luck in love, while dealing with family drama and her own sort of self-induced neurosis (all while wearing Christian Louboutins).  Created by Mara Brock Akil, (who is the Hollywood powerhouse behind cable hits like “Girlfriends,” and “The Game”), being Mary Jane tackles hot button topics facing Black women: egg freezing, sperm stealing, booty calls, married lovers, pregnant nieces (who want to become porn stars), and no good for nothing brothers who need money and sell drugs — and don’t care about their mother’s birthdays — or their mothers, period.

We’ll keep our eye out for series.
