Beyonce Knowles has postponed a concert in Malaysia after protests from Muslim conservatives in the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party. The group is concerned that the concert would be “immoral.”

Beyonce was supposed to perform at a venue in Kuala Lumpur on October 25, but the event’s organizer released a statement confirming that a a different date would be announced shortly. “The postponement is solely (the) decision of the artist and has nothing to do with other external reasons,” the statement read.

However, last month, the event organizer addressed concerns over Beyonce’s typically risque wardrobe, saying all parties had “come to an amicable understanding” about costumes.

So, we wonder what has happened since then…

“Will Beyonce Obey Malaysia’s Dress Code?”

We love you, Beyonce. We really do. Here, in America, it seems you can do no wrong – no matter how many times you claim you’d like to be a role model for girls despite your traipsing around in leather bustiers and knee-high boots. We accept it. But, now you’ve booked a show in Malaysia and they have severely different rules there. Will you obey their dress code or claim to be above it?

In October, Bey will try – for the second time – to perform in the Muslim-majority country of Malaysia. She had to cancel a show in 2007 when protesters challenged her sexy image and clothing. Conservatives are already showing concern, as female performers are required to cover up from the shoulders to knees with no cleavage showing.

Sabki Yusof, youth vice head of the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party, said Sunday that they would send a protest note to the government over the concert, saying it was the government’s “responsibility to protect the people of Malaysia” from what he described as immoral Western influences. “We are not against entertainment as long as it is within the framework of our culture and our religion,” Sabki said. “We are against Western sexy performances. We don’t think our people need that.”
