What Did Oprah Do to Newsweek Magazine?
Well, you could take this week’s Newsweek cover and its accompanying story a couple of ways. The fact is, Oprah Winfrey really DOES say some outlandish things on her show – and that isn’t to say they’re untrue; it’s just that the pathway to health and happiness isn’t as 1-2-3 easy as she’d like to make you believe. But it’s a talk show – everything that needs to be said and done about one’s lifestyle has to first attract an audience, and then be able to fit into a 40-minute segment.
But did the magazine go a little far with this cover? Perhaps you could say they’re doing just what Oprah does – saying and doing just enough to catch your initial attention with such an abrasive cover, regardless of what the actual article says on the inside. Or maybe they’re just being way too harsh.
Or maybe someone’s finally not afraid to step to The Winfrey! She practically runs the world. I wouldn’t mess with her. But I have to give it to Newsweek for having cojones.

off topic… but you notice you never hear about oprahs family ? like does she have kids ? is she married ? divorced ? seperated ? shes never done an interview like that. I want a thing like they did on notorious. How did she become OPRAH. What has she endured. what struggles did she have to conquer. The real scoop. If some one can get that request to her then good lookin. cause theres no other blacks that i can think of that is in her position close to being the richest person in the damn world.

I believe it is just a way to boost sales. Oprah is recession proof…so maybe they are using her name and face to save a business. Smart marketing with possible dire consequences. If Oprah approves millions do also. But if she disapproves…well millions do also.

With many magazines, especially newsmagazines, cover models don’t have the right to “sign off” on a cover. If the image is legally obtained, the magazine can use it however they want; they don’t need the permission of the person in the photograph. If that was the case, no celebrity would “sign off” on a magazine cover if the accompanying story showed them in a negative light — and thus, we would say goodbye to tabloids that scream “WORST BEACH BODY IN AMERICA” and covers like the one on this week’s Newsweek.

I would think Oprah would be savvy enough to sign off on a cover before allowing it out…She understands negative vs. positive portrayals via the media more than anyone, so I would be surprised to find out that Newsweek actually played her, like you are trying to imply…
