Last night, sexy soul singer Maxwell wowed the crowd at Madison Square Garden.

Opening for him were Chrisette Michelle and Common, who paid respect to his fellow artists by covering classics, “Breathe & Stop,’ “Ready or Not,” “Juicy,” “Jesus Walks,” and “Nothin’ but a ‘G’ Thang.'” He performed his and Erykah Badu’s “Love of My Life” solo, as well as hip-hop love song “The Light.”

Before headliner Maxwell entered the stage, the chorus from Jay-Z’s “Empire State of Mind” boasted out the speakers, paying homage to Maxwell’s hometown of Brooklyn.

He dropped to his knees while singing “Sumthin’ Sumthin’,” made sure to seduce the audience with “Bad Habits” and “Fortunate,” and paused before performing one of his signature songs, saying,

“I’m from Brooklyn, New York. My family is from the West Indies: My mother is from Haiti and my father is Puerto Rican. Things like this are not are supposed to happen to us,” he said about headlining the Garden. “I’m gonna sing this song with all my heart and if you could help me, I would be so happy.” He then went into “This Woman’s Work.”

After “Pretty Wings,” he began an acapella version of “Ascension (Don’t Ever Wonder), and once the song concluded, someone threw a pair of panties onstage.

“I have [bodily fluids] all over my forehead!” he joked.
