Do Athletes Make Good Husbands?

By Hello Beautiful July 13, 2009 4:30 pm

Athletes have been known to be notorious for cheating, from Michael Jordan (the all time #1 infidelity superstar perhaps?) to Kobe Bryant’s unfortunate rape allegations. Athletes’ marital lives seem to never stay out of the media’s eye. With this being said, I have to ask the question: Are athletes good boyfriend/husband material?

Read more about Steve McNair’s death here.

Check out our gallery of athletes who are know for their cheating ways:

READ IT ALL THE WAY FIRST! Prejudging anyone because of sex, race, orientation, faith, age and so on is easy for those who act self-righteous as even I have done in the past. IT seems that we are hardest on those who get caught-up in controversy. News of others Infidelity, scandal of corruption, money problems, secret trysts, drug usages feed the fire. If the men/women involved each have different outcomes One party may have unrealistic expectations and can’t accecpt it when the other person doesn’t feel the same. Rape, Murder, Suicide, Addiction, Sex, Gambling are tempting and hard to ignore. Mix any two of these and someones always gets hurt. Age should give us wisdom but desires of the flesh can all bring out the worst in us. I pray for the families left with question left unanswered. The recent murders /suicide that made headline speaks for is self.
I pray for the 4 young boys who are now without a father (even if he was a cheater long-time)his wife who must now be stronger than ever through this tragedy. That said Facts; He was married, a repeat player with many women coming at him who saw him as $$$$$$$ this is how it is, She and he were of legal age. This lifestyle that led them to their outcome did not have to be. (Sorry it happen but now men need to check (themself) before getting young women all gased up in thinking they the next mrs, baller wife. FEMALE THINK WITH YOUR HEAD NOT WITH WHAT BETWEEN YOUR LEGS! How much money would be be able to spend on the jump-off, chick on the side if he had child support for four kids and a ex-wifey to take care of? I am not judging them as nobody is perfect but 2 wrongs don’t make a right. Big baller’s bewear; now the playmates are acting out and getting guns to shoot 2 kill. Guess wifey don’t have to get the frying pan to go up side players head, the crazy young thing will take care of cheating males. Don’t hater the messenger! Husbands bewear she (babygirl, jump-off) just might not cry boo hoo and go away quietly.

Athletes can probably be as good a husband as the next man. You only hear about the cheating ones, not the hundreds of others that keep their marriages and relationships true. However, personally, I wouldn’t want my daughters to marry an athlete. The money and lifestyle is daunting, but at the end of the day, I think there is less pressure on the everyday accountant, doctor, lawyer, etc. to misbehave. I also think with so many women so easily accessible, it makes athletes devalue a good woman in their minds. They think of them as just a piece, so to speak, on a lease plan. When it gets too much mileage, you turn it in. A woman that truly values herself wants a man to value her beyond the time she’s still perfect and has no stretch marks. Atheletes, so many of them, use women and cast them aside–like trading up for a new toy. Also, women need to think about things that could happen worse than their husband cheating on them (permanent diseases, for example). Women need to really start looking at a guy’s charactor before they start bedding down with him and making babies. Money is NOT everything.

There are alot of cheaters and just because they are athletes don’t mean their going to change there ways probably just makes it worse..

To each his own …it is quite easy to be hypnotized by the lifestyle and the opportunitys abound 9 times out of 10 for most athletes.
    Enter at your own risk.

It is just too easy to get away with cheating. An athlete has far too much access. He can tell his wife anything while out of town.

Ask Doug Christie, I don’t think he cheats on Jackie!! And unless a woman is looking for a G.O.F.A.W., she is not going to try to get at Doug. (LOL)

GOFAW, Good Old Fashion A$$ Whoopin’

It is in error to generalize all athletes or anyone into a category of “cheaters.” I believe there are some who really love their wives, kids and family, thus they do NOT cheat.

When a person really loves someone, they go out of their way to ensure that the person they love is NOT hurt. The problem is too many people are looking at surface, superficial things instead of the “core” of a person. That takes too much time for some and SEX is too often the object of the game.

Hence, all the child support, baby momma/daddy drama, She is a w***e/gold-digger/just want money, he is a w***e/cheater/dogg/liar/getting shot by his jump off etc. We need to find out who we are and what we want, I PROMISE this will alleviate most of the trouble.

Running around making babies with women you don’t know (or getting shot by them), getting knocked up by men you “think” are good men or got money, only creates children who grow up with holes in their souls because they didn’t have their FATHERS in their lives. A child support check, Nikes, Jordans, Juicy Couture, Ralph Lauren Pole, Gucci shoes DO NOT…I REPEAT DO NOT and cannot substitute that time spent sitting on daddy’s lap, that embrace from a father, that affectionate touch from a father (which helps children learn BASIC TRUST).

We have really reduced the role of fathers in children’s lives to sperm donation and financial support (for those who get it). Too many men think that “check” is all they are responsible for…WRONG. KNOW THIS: FATHERS are the primary parents, not mothers. So when we grow up without that relationship with our fathers, we don’t know how much that damages us.

Whether we want to believe it or not, this is the MAIN problem plaguing our society…Men not understanding their roles and women not understanding the importance of man’s role as a father.

Now, how many athletes have grown up without their fathers? Many of which are good at their sport because they are seeking to prove they are worthy, be validated and/or PROVE to their absent fathers that they can “make it” even without them being their. However, NONE will just admit the rejection which often leads to rebellion, pain and even the tears shed because their fathers were NOT there.

Many men who grow up without their fathers, judge (to speak on something out of contempt rather than conviction) their fathers. And in doing so, they unknowingly(without consciously realizing it) do the exact same things to their children because anything we judge, we are subjected (if not doomed) to do it.

Too many try to fill that hole created by absent fathers with success (all gain is not Godliness), sex, drugs, alcohol, work, material things and they NEVER realize that none of those natural (tangible) things will fill it because that emptiness is on a spiritual level. Only God can fill and only God can heal.

God will turn the hearts of the fathers back to the hearts of the children and then we will see more healthy, successful and blessed relationships. Not just for athletes but for everyone.

I put it like this..its not just the athletes, you have rappers, singers, actors and regular people who cheat. So we should not stereotype any group because 9 times out of 10 that athlete was a cheater before he became famous..

Please define cheating??? B/c last time I checked it meant being unfaithful to you’re spouse. However is it called cheating when your spouse says its ok to go out and have sex with someone other than them. Example porn stars, strippers, escorts, and the list go on…So again, please define the word cheating????

They forgot to put the word Star before athlete, because there are over 360 athletes in each major sport like basketball/football/baseball. So a list of 12 players that cheat which are stars in their respective sport doesn’t represent every athlete that is married.
