If your man is anything like mine, then to him:

a) Shopping is a chore that must be done in the least amount of time possible

b) Browsing is unnecessary because he has a get-what-you-need-and-get-out mentality; and

c) He has his old faithful favorite things that he always just buys and re-buys in different colors, and refuses to experiment with new looks and styles

Talk about annoying. Well, ladies, now is the perfect opportunity for you to take the reigns and help your man out! Go get that debit card and work it out for him. If he shuts you down when you try that, then go for a more subtle approach. Encourage him to indulge in some new gear that will catapult his style to levels higher and higher.

Here’s a guide with some killer looks for you to suggest to your man, as well as where to find them.

Jeans

Dark crispy denims are definitely a good look for the impending cold season. Levi’s, Guess and The Gap are among the brands that will give you the most bang for your buck in terms of quality and style. Have your honey try more modern cuts that are not too skinny, just fitted to perfection. Saggy jeans are just as bad as super skinnies, so keep it neat and clean cut.

For those of you who are budget conscious, GQ magazine just put together a list of The Best Jeans Under $100. Diesel Black Gold also showed dark denims in their fall’09 runway show.

Outerwear

This season’s outerwear trend is definitely along the same clean lines. Longer jackets and trenches are very much the mode as per the fall runway collections.  As well, well tailored, fitted jackets are just what your man needs to keep turning you on.

Check out the Burberry Prorsum runway pics for more tips on how to emulate a smooth outerwear look.

Leather is also a good outerwear alternative. Motorcycle style leather jackets will give him the cool factor on his days off.

Suits

There is nothing like a man in a tailored suit. Nothing.

If you want your  man looking as professional as sexy, look to Ralph Lauren. This year, have him branch out color wise.  Instead of sticking to the usual navy and black, opt for earth tones. A rich brown suit will do wonders for him. In the cooler months have him pair it with a Burberry Prorsum trench and he’ll be forever grateful for your style intervention.

Shirts

Layering is crucial when it comes to your man’s top half. Rather than settling for a single or simple shirt, add complexity to his look by encouraging him to add a cardigan or vest. Plaids in vibrant colors are also a good alternative to regular button downs. Thick sweaters, like the one Jay-Z has on in his Rocawear 10th anniversary ad, also add rich layers to an ordinary look.

D Squared² and Marc by Marc Jacobs created  fall ’09 collections that brilliantly execute layering.

These style tips will keep your man sharp, but the most important thing is that you use pieces that make him feel good about him self. The sexiest thing of all is a confident man, so encourage him to experiment only as far as he is comfortable.
