HELL IT’S MADE TO GIVE THE WARM DOWN HOME FEEL OF THE SOUTH IE “SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY” WHAT DOES IT MATTER, YA’LL TOO MUTHFUKKIN SENSITIVE, WE ARE ALL PRODUCTS OF ENVIORMENT, AND BECAUSE THAT WOMAN SPEAKS THAT WAY THAT DOESN’T MAKE HER AN INGNORANT PERSON SHE’S GETTIN HER MONEY AND NOT MATCHING ANY STEROTYPE, AND FOR ANYONE OFFENDED YOU HAVE TOO MUCH TIME TOO THINK ABOUT RACISM

And another thing… back in the days when my mother and grandmother’s were growing up in the segregated south, many white people, particularly the men, used to go around calling African American girls and women “Annie”.

Here in 2009 we have this woman standing in front of a sea of friend chicken saying her name is “Annie”. So there you go… not good.

But yes moving on… I had a good vent lol. I’ve been wanting to say something about this commercial since the first day it aired. Since then I just change the channel. It is what it is.

Well… maybe if they didn’t have the woman talking like she came straight out of Aunt Jemima’s kitchen with all the “Uh huh’s,” “Mm hmm’s” and “Honey’s”… not all black people talk like that. I blame the people who produce and direct these commercials. This is not the only commercial where someone is talking and over acting in stereotypical manner. I’ve seen many commercials- even more lately-where black women are taking and acting this way. Look at that lady on the elevator in that Hamburger Helper commercial…. many of the women in those Kool Aid, Diabetes, and Life Insurance Commercials. There was even this commercial back in 90’s where this woman was going around gossiping about her husband’s constipation issues. She too, talked and acted the same way “Honey, baby, suga, child…” It IS offensive!

In addition to the talk and overzealous acting, I see when they cast most African Americans, their hair tends to be uncombed (i.e. twigs, dreads with a lot of new growth, the mop hair). The producers and casting people might want to call it being cultural, I call it putting us in a negative light. I think it’s cruel and disrespectful.

Last but not least there’s the media coverage of white couples from Hollywood toting arund babies they adopted from africa like they are an accessory or something. Reporters going to the most rowdy set of black people they can find on the corner to get their opinion about a breaking story, the list goes on and on.

To me, it seems like a lot of this negative exposure intensified since Barak Obama became our President. There’s many people out their who still have that old way of thinking. That supremacy mentality. It’s like these people are trying to throw cheap punches at the Black community because finally we have a black President in office.

As an individual and an African American, I’m not happy with some of the President’s spending decisions because it seems like these banks and big corporations don’t need to have any more money given to waste. Nevertheless, I still support President Obama and wish him success in trying to redeem America from this horrible recession.

I’d like to add, I don’t like fried chicken. Maybe that’s the cultural disconnect? As I’ve said before, don’t attack businesses; attack the source of the demand. I’m not offended; I don’t like fried chicken and they aren’t talking to me. I am offended that way too many times when I go to Black folks houses, why can we only offer five staples??? I hate fried chicken. I tolerate only good potato salad and mac and cheese. It’s time for people in general to stop eating so much fast food and eat healthy. I personally love greek and italian, as I’m a Jersey girl. I’d love to walk in a house and see a nice antipasto salad and some lemon chicken,and something else that five bottles of soda. How about some flavored water? It’s time to evolve and do better than be petty. Read, get an education on real issue, then report on real issues that affect us. Black folk were hurt most by this financial crisis due to a lack of financial education. Focus on that people, then we work on the small things like a friggin’ commerical. A sign of wealth is a lack of focus, this is an example. You guys are being lax by not delving deeper.
