This sounds to me like it is written for the person that is trying to hold one down with someone living in the military, because this is all very text book! The same applies for people tht have never spent one day in a set of combat boots because distance, being alone for extended periods of time not being with your significant other will place a serious strain on you mentally.
In that case I will give me own step: Wait!
most tours of duty are about 1-3 years, and deployments are usually less than 8 months, if you trying to hold it down, just be friends and then see where it goes from there. I ave seen dozens if not hundred of cases in my 12 years of globe trotting where it didn’t work, and I can say that technology it not the key, it’s commitment! And most people do not have a clue to what that really means.
