Lip Liner 101

Here’s a tip you won’t want to skip: Make your lipcolor last by filling in lips first with liner. Keep it to yourself though, and don’t choose a lip liner shade that stands out.

HOW TO CHOOSE
Lip liner usually comes in a thin pencil shape. You can also find a jumbo lip crayon that works to both line and color your lips, but the large shape won’t offer the precision of a classic lip pencil. When you’re choosing lip liner, decide if you want an automatic or manual pencil. An automatic, or self-sharpening, style replenishes when you twist the barrel. Manual pencils require you to sharpen the tip, but in doing so, you may have more control in maintaining a sharp point.

HOW TO FIND MY SHADE
While some women use lip liner in darker shades than their lip color, it’s actually better to match liner to your lips or your lipstick. Choose the shade that blends with your natural lipcolor or your lipstick shade. The best lip liner is never noticeable, so go lighter and neutral if you’re ever in doubt about a particular shade.
