“I forgot how good this felt” said Derek Jeter, and so did we.  The Bronx Bombers won their 27th World Series Championship last night, and now the move across 161st is complete.  Yankee fans have waited 9 long years for a championship and our boys brought it home last night.

Hideki Matsui put on one of the most impressive performances in World Series history, driving in six runs.

Matsui was awarded World Series MVP honors for his effort, which included a two-run homer off pitcher, “who’s your daddy” Pedro Martinez that set an early tone for the Bronx Bombers.

Andy Pettitte dealt 5 2-3 innings of three-run ball and Mariano Rivera got the final six outs to secure the win for New York.

Way to go Yanks!!!!!

Before the Yanks won the World Series, the Queen of Hip Hop Soul sung the National Anthem at home plate. MJB said:

“I have never been to a baseball game.”

The New York-born Blige, wearing a World Series jacket and a Yankees jersey, said: “I have never done it before, so I’m kind of nervous.

“But I’m mostly excited because this is my hometown. I was born in Fordham Hospital [New York] in the Bronx, so I’m just happy that [the Yankees] picked me to do this.”

And you say NYC!!! Mary J. Blige is set to sing the National Anthem at the World Series’ Game 6 at Yankee Stadium tonight.

MJB is the latest superstar to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” during the championship matchup between the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies. John Legend and Alanis Morissette have also lent their voices to the traditional pre-game performance.

The First Lady Michelle Obama and Jill Biden had a girls’ night out on Wednesday when they attended Game 1 of the World Series.  The First lady received a warm welcome from Yankees fans and a kiss from the captain Derek Jeter. Wearing a maroon World Series jacket, Mrs. Obama smiled as the crowd cheered. Mrs. Obama and Biden each got a peck from Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter on their way off the field, and the first lady high-fived a fan before disappearing into a Yankee Stadium tunnel.

UPDATE: Jay-z needs to get his calendar in order…I’m hearing the real reason why he’s not performing at tonight’s World Series opener is because he’s double booked.  According to missinfo.com,  Jay-Z is scheduled to perform a concert in Columbus, Ohio:

UPDATE: At 5:30 p.m. John Vlautin from Live Nation Worldwide, Inc., the company representing Jay-Z, told The Lantern that Jay-Z will be performing at the Schottenstein Center and that he will perform in New York on Thursday, depending on the weather.

“He will be there in Columbus,” Vlautin said.

Jay-Z’s and Alicia Keys’ fans will have to wait another day to see them perform at the World Series in the Bronx.  According to the NY Daily News,Major League Baseball announced that the World Series performances featuring Jay-Z and Alicia Keys have been rescheduled to take place prior to Game 2 on Thursday, due to a forecast for inclement weather for Game 1 on Wednesday.

According to MLB, the staging for the performance could adversely impact the field if it is wet, creating damaged and unsafe playing conditions.

Michelle Obama and Jill Biden will attend Game 1 of the World Series in the Bronx on Wednesday.  According to espn.com, the First Lady’s  office announced today that she will be joined at Yankee Stadium by the Vice President’s wife, Jill Biden.

Major League Baseball is dedicating Game 1 to veterans and their families. Both Mrs. Obama and Mrs. Biden spend time visiting with military families and talking about the sacrifices they make for the country.

We all know that the Bidens are Phillies fans and the Obamas are Chicago White Sox fans, so who will the First Lady be rooting for?

My Yankees are going to the World Series

Jay-Z was spotted at last night’s Yankees game, as the Bronx Bombers battered the tired Twins in the playoff opener. He was sitting next to third baseman’s A-Rod’s girl Kate Hudson.

The Yankees got the performance they needed from CC Sabathia, who recovered from a difficult third to throw 6 2/3 strong innings, delivering a solid lead to the bullpen in his New York postseason debut. “You couldn’t have drawn it up any better for us,” Derek Jeter said after ticking off all that went right for the Yankees in their 7-2 ALDS victory Wednesday night before 49,464 in the first postseason game at the new Yankee Stadium.

And more importantly, Alex Rodgriguez had two hits in the game, ending his hitless streak in the post season…GO A-ROD!!!!

I’m thinking this is the year we’re finally going to go ALL THE WAY!!!!

Say it ain’t so!!! Ladies I’m hearing one of the hottest men in baseball is about to be off the market…The New York Post is reporting that the hottest shortstop in baseball history Derek Jeter and “Friday Night Lights” actress Minka Kelly are secretly engaged:

ARE Derek Jeter and Minka Kelly ready to take the next step? “Derek and Minka are secretly engaged,” an insider told Page Six. The Yankee captain and the actress are telling close pals to “save the date” for nuptials in the fall. “The wedding is being planned and will take place after baseball season is over,” said our source. A rep for Kelly said, “There is no fall wedding planned to Derek Jeter.” Remember — Kelly also denied they were dating when we spotted her with Jeter at the Empire Hotel last year.

Jeter has been linked to some of the world’s beautiful women during his career. Oh that lucky Minka!!

What wasn’t awesome, was sitting there for 7+ inning and seeing my team come up short. The pitching was not bad, A.J. Burnett kept us in the game, but the Yanks could not score a run.  The boyfriend and I left the stadium at the top of the 8th with the Yanks down 3-0. Why sit around and ruin my hair (you know how us black girls are with our hair), we get in the car and I find out the Yanks had tied the game, the score was now 3-3.  Woohoo!!! Maybe we can still win this game.

Before we got out of the Bronx, the game was in a rain delay, whew, maybe we’ll make it home in time to see the last two innings. Traffic was light, got to Brooklyn, and the game resumed after a 1/2 hr. rain delay.

Mo pitched the 9th inning, kept the Rays from scoring, the Yanks came up in the bottom of the ninth, could not score, xtra innings here we go.

Top of the 10th, the Rays takes the lead with a go ahead home run. Damn!!! There’s still hope, we have the top of our lineup coming to the plate, who will be the hero tonight?

Guess I’ll have to wait until tomorrow. This was not the ending I expected from my boys, they need to get their act together and FAST!!!!

We had one of our new off-season acquisitions, A.J. Burnett, on the mound, who held it down for seven innings. The bats came alive, the bullpen kept us in the game and the best closer in baseball, Mariano Rivera closed it out.  Final score 7-4, which makes it three games in a row for the Yanks in the win column.

Let’s hope the Yanks continue to hit and win series. The only series they’ve lost so far is the Red Sox series.

We play the Sox again next week, but this time we play in our stadium and rest assured they’re not going to beat us in our house.

My team was humiliated this weekend.  Let’s just say I’m really starting to worry about my boys.  Yes it’s only April, but when we play the much hated Red Sox, we’re supposed to pull out all the stops.

Mariano Rivera blew a save Friday. A. J. Burnett lost a six-run lead Saturday. And now Andy Pettitte, the pitcher who almost never allows the Yankees to be swept, let Jacob Ellsbury slip past him on Sunday. Ellsbury stole home!!! How embarrassing is that???

For four innings, Pettitte kept the Yanks in the game. The game was tied, 1-1,  Angel Berroa, playing in his third career game at third base (due to Cody Ransom being placed on the DL)  made two errors in the third inning to allow the Sox to score a run.  A-Rod where are you when we need you? May 15th can’t get here soon enough.

This was the first series this season where the Yanks were swept!!!

The Yanks move on to Detroit hoping that pitcher C. C. Sabathia can lift them over .500.

I know that it’s stilll early in the season, but this fan is NOT liking what she’s seeing right now!!!!

The Yankee bats came alive today and so did our bullpen (who I wonder about this season).  

A record-setting 26th Bronx home run belonged to Melky Cabrera, who belted his second roundtripper of the afternoon and ended the first extra-innings affair at the new ballpark, lifting the Yankees to a 9-7 victory over the A’s in the bottom of the 14th inning.

Every Yankee starter had a hit today, something we haven’t seen this season (granted the season is early), let’s hope this hitting streak continues, as we travel to Fenway Park to face our much-hated division rival Red Sox this weekend.

Both teams have started out of the gate a bit slow this season, but are quickly rising to their customary 1-2 positions in the division.  There is nothing more exciting than a Yankee-Red-Sox series, so we are amped and ready for this weekend’s showdown.

The Yankees opened their new billion dollar home with a loss to the Cleveland Indians, starting out with a 10-2 record on a historic sunny day in the Bronx.

After the longest opening road trip in Yankee history (9 games), the Bronx Bombers returned to their new home yesterday to officially open their new stadium with what else a LOSS!!!

I know it’s only April, but what I witnessed today, reminded me of what has pissed me off the last couple of seasons: bases loaded and no one can cross the plate.  The Yanks had the bases loaded twice and could not score a run. Starting pitcher CC Sabathia (the only African-American player on the team) did his thing for 6 innings, and in true Yankee fashion, the bullpen blew the game.  Relief pitchers Jose Veras and Damoso Marte gave up nine runs in the seventh inning and the Yanks never had a chance.

The Yankees haven’t lost a home opener since 1998, the longest such winning streak in Major League Baseball history. They had won 16 of their past 17 home openers.

This is a big deal in Yankee-land, we’ve always had to deal with the hated Red Sox but after last year’s come-out-of- no-where pesky Tampa Rays, it’s going to be a very challenging AL East race this season.

And we wouldn’t have it any other way!!!

Fellow Yankee fan Jay Z was in attendance yesterday, and by the look on his face, we’re thinking this pic was taken before the game.

Being female, you’re not supposed to love sports the way men do. WRONG!!! There are lots of women who love sports and will sit down with their man to watch a game. Ladies, this is a way to bond with your man, would you rather be cleaning the bathroom while he watches the game?

My love for sports dates back to when I was a young kid running track and playing softball. Growing up on  island of St Vincent, West Indies, Cricket was the sport I was supposed to love, but, umm not so much. I’ve been a baseball fan since I was 9 years old.  My dad was the biggest Met fan on the planet, and me being the tomboy that I was, sat down and watched game after game with him. Always eager to please him, I remember getting tickets to a Met game and inviting my dad, only to have him  turn me down, he’d rather watch in on TV than see it live. Are you kidding me? For the record, my dad never went to a baseball game while he was alive.

My favorite Met at the time was pitcher David Cone? For some reason, I’ve always loved pitching. I sucked at catching a ball, but I could throw a mean curveball. I remember going to a game and waiting with all the little boys outside the clubhouse to get Coney’s autograph (and no I’m not embarrassed to reveal this). My best friend at the time was a Yankee lover and we would go back and forth about which team was the best. I swore I would never set foot in Yankee Stadium (little did I know she would end up getting married in the stadium) and yes I attended her wedding.

The following year Coney ended up with the enemy and I became a Yankee fan. I got to know and love all the players and even ended up with a new favorite pitcher after Coney retired. Mariano Rivera was my new baseball god (yes another pitcher) “Mo” as he is known is the best closer in baseball history.

So here we are over 10 years later and yours truly is a die-hard Yankee fan.  I’ve been through the ups and downs that most Yankee fans experience and yes I’ve even shed a few tears (the loss to the Diamondbacks in 2001)

We now have a new $1.5-billion stadium (which I was so against), what is wrong with the house that Ruth built?  But like most Yankee fans, we know that this organization is all about first-class, over-the-top, no concern for expense.

Today is opening day at Yankee stadium and I will be bringing you updates throughout the season, and who knows you just may end up loving baseball as much as I do. So without further adieu…Let’s play ball!!!
