1) Try to match the hair to YOUR hair and hair color.  Ladies if your hair is not bone straight,  please don’t waste your money and get the super straight hair.  You want your weave to look natural. If you want to go lighter, you can always color your hair to achieve this by using a temporary or permanent dye. If you’re going to spend the money, get good quality hair, after all this is an investment.

2) Blend, Blend, Blend. If you get a full weave and you leave out some of your hair for a more natural look, there are a few ways to style it so that it will blend with the hair weaved in. Invest in a  curling iron or flat iron. Make sure you curl or flat iron the hair so it blends easier.

3) Maintain. Take care of your weave the same way you would with your natural hair, and it will last for months. Make sure you comb it out before washing and avoid using alcohol and harsh products when you wash, condition and style. If you have the extra money, go to the person who weaved your hair and have them wash and style it, this way you know it’s been take care of correctly.

You hair is a reflection of who you are, treat it with care and it will last long and look very natural.

Used as either the butt of a joke or the subject of Chris Rock’s “Good Hair” documentary, hair weave hasn’t been taken seriously for years. However today, that changes as government officials are requesting just that to help in the containment efforts of the BP oil spill.

Hair is hydrophobic — is this why women don’t like to get their hair wet? — so it absorbs petroleum while water slides off. The technique was apparently discovered by an Alabama hair stylist named Phil McCrory, who found that the hundreds of thousands of pounds of weave are disposed of daily.

Kelis just got smacked over a $5,000 hair weave. Yes folks, 3 zeroes.

Kelis got the weave at a fancy schmancy Santa Monica salon back in May 2009 but, according to legal docs, the singer never coughed up the dough. This morning, the stylist showed up for the trial, but Kelis didn’t … so the judge entered a default judgment for the full amount.

I mean, he’s super-articulate. He’s phenomenal. But I know with a lot of these fashion people we kind of think they’re snooty, it’s an elitist club, but he really isn’t. Last night, supermodel (and super businesswoman) Tyra Banks appeared on the Larry King Live show and, amidst talking about Chris Brown, Oprah, and trying to teach him how to “smize,” Tyra discussed hair – again! Watch the clip below:

Is actress Joy Bryant throwing shade at Tyra Banks? The actress recently blogged about Tyra’s National Hair Day on Essence a few days ago and went in on Tyra, while celebrating her own weave. Joy wears a weave?? Who knew!!! I can usually spot a weave a mile away, but I had no clue Joy was part of the club.

Here’s what she posted:

National Real Hair Day? I missed that one…In fact, on National Real Hair Day, I was calling Extensions Plus in L.A. to make sure they had enough of the 20″ “relaxed roots” texture hair that I love oh so much (and that keeps selling out like crazy!), and making an appointment to get my hair, I mean, my weave, hooked up.

So Tyra, while I didn’t take part in your observance, I just want to say: “WOW!” You are such a brave woman for breaking the chains that bound you since your teenage years! What courage that took, for you to expose yourself to millions of people! Such fearlessness! Oh, how I wish I had the guts to do that. I guess I’m much too much of an insecure, self-loathing Negro for all that self-acceptance foolishness.

I’m glad we got down to solving the mystery of what’s under your lace-front, though. I mean seriously, it was “THE” question that has perplexed the world over. And now we see that there’s a beautiful head of hair underneath it all, hair that was surprisingly relaxed and ready for the world. Whodathunkit?!If I had the same length and fullness of hair that you have, I might take my weave out too.

Ha!!!! I’m just playing! Even if I DID have your “real” hair, I’d still be wearing a few tracks or clip-ons up in there.

Our girl Kelly Rowland has been really trying to step up her game recently. First she got a boob job then she took her locks from short to long. We applaud her efforts to be “fierce” but there’s something not quite right about the situation. Kelly’s recent appearance during NY fashion week had us clutching the pearls because she looked a hot mess!!! What’s up with the half fringe and those glasses?? The thing that worried us the most is that her hair looks like someone just slapped some yaki on top of his head. We don’t think there’s anything wrong with a little bit of weave but there’s definitely a right and wrong way to wear your extensions. This is the WRONG way.

Toni Braxton is a lot like Tyra Banks – every time you see her, she’s got a different hairstyle! That’s the beauty of weaves and wigs – you can reinvent your look whenever you’re in the mood for a change. But I’m not so sure about this new look Miss Toni’s rockin – I know everyone’s going for the Barbie look these days, but it seems kind of corny to me. I think I prefer Toni’s shorter styles, but maybe that’s just my own opinion.  Pretty dress, though!

Oprah Winfrey wants everyone to stop asking her about her weave, so she decided to show the world this is her her real hair.

According to huffingtonpost.com ,the daytime talk show host is now fascinated with Twitter and the topic that seems to fascinate her “Tweeple” is her hair.

On Friday’s episode of “Oprah Fridays Live,” Oprah addressed the question most of her viewers wanted an answer to. “”Am I wearing a weave? Everybody’s like, ‘Oprah, we love your weave,’” she said, before flashing a photo of herself with pre-ironed, pre-curled hair to set the record straight.

Looks like the recession has women going to extreme measures to keep their hair tight.

A group of North Houston hair merchants have banded together and posted a $5,000 reward for the capture of weave snatchers!  Apparently hair from the popular Saga line, which can go for $40 to $100 depending on the length are in great demand that one store was robbed twice in two weeks.  The thieves busted a hole in the store wall using a sledgehammer.

Saga sells for only $25 a pack on the street — get ‘em while they’re hot!
