First, let me say that I love the advice you give to us women who sometimes need help on how to understand and relate to men.

I come to you with a problem of my own. I am twenty years old (soon to be twenty-one), a senior in college, and a VIRGIN! I will admit it bothers me at times that out of my group of friends, I’m the only one not getting any, but I usually just laugh at the jokes and explain my reasons why I’m waiting. And, I’m tired of meeting guys who say they respect my decision, but continue to try and pressure me. But this is my question: Is having sex really that important in a relationship? I mean, everyone continues to tell me how I should have lost it by now, and questioning me about what I’m waiting for. But, I’m also continually told that sex is not that big of a factor when it comes to a relationship.

There’s more to this story. I’ve been talking to this guy, “A.V.,” who’s in the military, currently stationed in Afghanistan and has been “sexually frustrated” for almost a year now. We talk on a daily basis, and I told him that I’m sexually inactive and he explained that that’s one of the first things he’s looking forward to when he comes back home. I really like this guy, and I don’t want to jeopardize our current or future relationship because I can’t meet his needs. Can you please help provide some insight about this major topic, because I honestly can’t meet a guy who is interested in all of me, not just what they “think” I can do for them. — Sexually Confused

Bravo! Clap, clap! I commend you for being able to hold your own as a twenty year old, in college, and a VIRGIN! I mean, you haven’t allowed the pressures of your friends and their jokes to get to you. Let them laugh and joke. Girl, let me tell you, you are the sane one. You have your head on straight and can see through the lines and bull-ish the guys try to run game on you with.

I read, hear, and know of so many young women who have gone away to college and lost their minds, virginity, became pregnant, dropped out of school, and the guy they are strung out on is still in school and screwing every other girl on campus. You’ll be amazed at some of the stories I hear. Or, those who are wearing disguises with the big baseball caps and sunglasses in the clinic because of some disease they’ve contracted. Honey, you are not missing a thing!

Is sex that important in a relationship? Well, it depends on who you are in a relationship with. If that is the only connection you have with a guy, then that is not a relationship. You are sex buddies. I feel sex sometimes blurs the lines in relationships. People often misconstrue sex with love. Just because he can put it down in the bedroom, make your toes curl, have you screaming with multiple orgasms, or you know of a few tricks here and there, that doesn’t mean or equate to love. Sex is sex. It’s something you do. Some people feel and use sex as a way to prove to someone how much they like them, or to make themselves feel pretty, acceptable, and keep a man. Girl, when sex is used as a negotiating tool that is not good. It is a detriment to a relationship. Especially if a guy tells you he respects your decision, yet he keeps pressuring you to go to bed with him. Get the blankety-blank-blank out of here!

Relationships and love is all about Be-ing. The ability to BE with someone through everything and anything. The ability to love them for who they are without any judgments or biases. The ability to love unconditionally and not based on what they can do for you or buy for you. Love is sitting in a room with them and you’re not bothered by the silence. Love is when they walk in a room a smile splashes across your face. Love is anxiously waiting for them to return even though they just left two minutes ago. It has nothing to do with sex. Now, Ms. Sexually Confused, you’re spending a lot of time communicating with a man overseas who, as you say, is “sexually frustrated.” Girl, let me tell you something, if you don’t plan on going there with this man, leave him alone! Don’t get that man hyped up thinking he is going to come home and take your virginity. If you’re not ready, then you’re not ready. Don’t let anyone force, coerce, or manipulate you into doing something you are not ready for. He has sex on the brain. He wants to relieve a lot of pent-up tension, and if he is that frustrated sexually, he may just turn you out. If you’ve waited this long, then don’t rush and do it now just because you want to prove something to a man. Let me get this straight, you’re talking about jeopardizing your current or future relationship with a man who is in another country? Honey, for one, you don’t have a relationship. Two, focus on school and graduating college. Three, if no man is talking what you want to hear and if he isn’t making you feel desired, loved, wanted, needed, and special then keep your legs closed. You will know when you’re ready, and by the sound of your letter, girl, you are not ready. Some people may wonder how rapper (and Pharrell protege) Teyana Taylor has made her way into A-list circles of the music industry. Radio personality and entertainment blogger Egypt sat down with Taylor to discuss her growing career, sexuality, and relationship with Chris Brown.

Tell me something that no one knows about you Teyana..
Well, I’m addicted to Jimmy Neutron cartoons and donuts. I’m really a fat kid at heart. I eat everything! But at least I workout and dance a lot, too. People always ask how I stay so skinny. It’s because I do leglifts on the treadmill. That’s how you get a six pack.

Leglifts on a treadmill? How do you do that without busting your ass?
By holding onto the bars. Hello! I’m no hater. I’ll tell you how to get my body. Some people wanna be selfish and keep all that stuff to themselves. If someone asks me, I’ll tell them that is how you get a six pack of abs.

You’re a Twitter maniac, lady. Over the past 3 months we’ve seen pictures posted on Twitter by either you, Chris Brown, or Soulja Boy. These pics of course prompted rumors that maybe you were dating both of them. Was there any truth to the rumors?
Yeah, I know. I mean, no…no. Chris is my brother. I’ve always said that. People say a lot of things about me and I’m like, I’m only 18. Really? Is it that serious? People have said I was gay and all type of stuff.

Yes. The one thing people can never say is that I’m a hoe. I have a purity ring. The only time you get in trouble is if you attempt to do something. If you’re laying up on a boy then something is going to happen. So I just keep my legs closed until I am ready for that. I can’t have a boyfriend because the only thing they want to do is have sex. I don’t want no fingers up there, no penis, nothing!!! Uh uh.

You know, many young girls think that virginity is lame and promiscuity is cool. They succumb to peer pressure and then find themselves in grown folks situations that they aren’t equipped to handle. So I’m pleasantly surprised to hear that you have your head on straight.
Egypt, I even try to teach these girls. I hold bible study class at St. Lukes church in Harlem when I’m home. I actually teach the class because I want them to know it’s okay to praise God and keep your legs closed. I’m just trying to be a good example right now. It’s funny because when I had my 18th birthday I wore this Herve Lager dress and peeps were like “Whoa, Teyana.” I guess that’s because I always try to dress my age. I just started wearing dresses so they were shocked. But that night I had to make people know that if I want to get on my girlie stuff then I will do that. These female artists need to know that if and when I’m ready to bust out and throw it on….Be afraid…..be very afraid!! But I want to be a good example. I’m a lady and I think people respect that.

What do you think about Chris’ decision to go on the radio recently and talk about that night with Rihanna. Was it a wise decision?
I feel like every decision he made was right. He had to go on and talk about the situation because no one heard his side. I don’t condone what he did. It’s never right to hit a woman. But I’m gonna be by his side anyway.

Recently, a certain radio personality put you on blast by asking “What exactly does Teyana Taylor do?”, as if to question your relevance. A few other websites have mistakenly called you a rapper. Do you want to respond?
Yeah, I know who you’re talking about and when it happened I was like, Wow! That’s just so fake because he was just smiling in my face before that….but nevermind that. Here’s the deal. I have a lipgloss line coming out called “Dope Lips.” We are still developing it but I’m excited because we have ‘Salute The Nude’ under the lipgloss line for all the girls who like nude colors. I’m a songwriter, too. I’m about to write for Blackstreet and Usher. I wrote a Timbaland track for Usher; Teddy Riley heard it and said “That’s crazy!! If Usher don’t want it then bring it here.” So now, I’m about to write for their album. I’m writing stuff with Chris Brown, Omarion, and I’m about to start getting in with Brandy too. So I am really heavy into songwriting.

I have my own publishing company called “I Am McLovin Publishing.” I am also hosting the Jamaican Awards (YVA) in Kingston in February because the kids in Jamaica love me. I didn’t even realize I had so many Jamaican fans. I’m in the newest Source magazine with Young Money on the cover and I’m about to do the covers of Persona and Bleu Magazines. I’m a model too! I modeled for Zac Posen and Deisel during “Fashion Week” in Miami. And I did a campaign for “Married to the Mob.”

Wait a minute, how tall are you?
5 foot 7. I’m 5 foot 7, Egypt. But I feel taller and I have a tall personality. Also, me, Chris Brown and his brother just started a rock band called “Ugly.” People have said “Teyana, you can’t do that,” but I say “Yes, you can.” Shoot, Gwen Stefani did it! She did her Gwen Stefani solo stuff and her band with “No Doubt” and they both worked. It’s just another creative extension of me.

Keri Hilson recently sat down with qdeezy.com and revealed she lost her virginity to Usher, okay not the singer but to his song “You Got It Bad.”  The singer revealed a lot of” firsts” during the interview and said the closest she’s come to kissing a celebrity is with Kanye on the set of “Make Love.”

As many as one in eight teens in the United States may take a virginity pledge at some point, vowing to wait until they’re married before having sex. But do such pledges work? Are pledge takers more likely than other teens to delay sexual activity?

A new study suggests that the answer is no. While teens who take virginity pledges do delay sexual activity until an average age of 21 (compared to about age 17 for the average American teen), the reason for the delay is more likely due to pledge takers’ religious background and conservative views — not the pledge itself.

According to a study published Monday in the journal Pediatrics, pledge takers are as likely to have sex before marriage as other teens who are also religious, but don’t take the pledge. However, pledge takers are less likely than other religious or conservative teens to use condoms or birth control when they do start having sex.

In the new study, Janet Rosenbaum, Ph.D., of Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, Maryland, analyzed the large chunk of data used in all the studies that have looked at virginity pledges: the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health. In this survey, middle and high school students were asked about their sexual behaviors and opinions starting in 1995-96.

In the analysis, Rosenbaum compared 289 young adults who took virginity pledges in their teens with 645 young people who did not take such a pledge. The researcher was careful to only compare teens who had similar views on religion, birth control and sex in general, regardless of whether or not they took a pledge.

Five years after the initial survey the study subjects were aged 20 to 23. Eighty-two percent of pledge takers denied (or forgot) they had ever taken such a vow. Overall pledge takers were no different from non-pledge takers in terms of their premarital sex, anal and oral sexual practices, and their probability of having a sexually transmitted disease.

Both groups lost their virginity at an average age of 21, had about three lifetime partners, and had similar rates of STDs. “And the majority were having premarital sex, over 50 percent,” says Rosenbaum. Overall, roughly 75 percent of pledgers and non-pledgers were sexually active, and about one in five was married.
