According to TMZ, Tyler took to his website to refute the rumors:

“There is no way that she could have walked off the set because we have finished taping the season.”

Tyler writes, “Were there tough days for her? Yes of course. Not because of the acting or any job-related issues but because of the fact that she had just lost her mother.”

“So yes she was grieving, but grief aside, she managed to finish her obligation and did a great job at the same time.”

Atlanta firefighters responded immediately to a fire which damaged the backlot façade of one of the buildings at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta. We are grateful that there were no injuries, and that 99 percent of the damage is limited to the backlot facade. Mr. Perry wishes to express his heartfelt thanks to the Atlanta fire department for their professionalism in their quick response and limiting the damage.

Tyler Perry Releases Statement On Studio Fire [EXCLUSIVE]

“One building on the Tyler Perry Studio lot has, partially, collapsed due to fire damage,” Captain Jolyon Bundrige of the Atlanta Fire Department told 11 Alive.

According to the studio’s website, the 200,000 square-foot facility includes five sound stages and a 400-seat theater.

Perry himself was reportedly on the scene surveying the damage and has yet to comment on the fire.

Tyler Perry’s story of being racially profiled could have went really wrong really fast had he not been recognized by one of the officers. It’s a real shame that officers of the law can take abuse of their authority and cause our men to live in fear if they ever come in contact with them. Read Tyler Perry’s nail-biting tale below.

A few days before President Obama was supposed to speak at my studio, I was leaving the studio, headed to the airport. Most times when I leave the studio I have an unmarked escort. Other times I constantly check in my rearview mirror to be sure that I’m not being followed. It’s a safety precaution that my security team taught me. As I got to an intersection, I made a left turn from the right lane and was pulled over by two police officers. I pulled the car over and put it in park. Then, I let the window down and sat in the car waiting for the officer. The officer came up to the driver’s door and said that I made an illegal turn. I said, “I signaled to get into the turning lane, then made the turn because I have to be sure I’m not being followed.” He said, “why do you think someone would be following you?”

Before I could answer him, I heard a hard banging coming from the passenger window. I had never been in this position before so I asked the officer who was at my window what was going on and why is someone banging on the window like that. He said, “let your window down, let your window down. Your windows are tinted.” As I let down the passenger window, there was another officer standing on the passenger side of the car. He said, “what is wrong with you?” The other officer said to him, “he thinks he’s being followed.” Then, the second officer said, “why do you think someone is following you? What is wrong with you?”

Before I could answer the officer on the passenger side, the one on the driver’s side had reached into the car and started pulling on the switch that turns the car on and off, saying, “put your foot on the brake, put your foot on the brake!” I was so confused as to what he was doing, or what he thought he was doing. It looked like he was trying to pull the switch out of the dashboard. I finally realized that he thought that switch was the key, so I told him that it wasn’t the key he was grabbing. I reached down into the cup holder to get the key, not realizing that the key had a black leather strap on it. As I grabbed it they both tensed up and I dropped it as I heard my mother’s voice from when I was a little boy.

My mother would always say to me, “if you get stopped by the police, especially if they are white policemen, you say ‘yes sir’ and ‘no sir’, and if they want to take you in, you go with them. Don’t resist, you hear me? Don’t make any quick moves, don’t run, you just go.” My mother was born in 1945 into a segregated hotbed town in rural Louisiana. She had known of many colored men at the time who were lynched and never heard from again. Since I was her only son for ten years, growing up she was so worried about me. It wasn’t until after I heard her voice that I realized that both of these officers were white.

The officer on the driver’s side continued to badger me, “why do you think someone is following you?” I then said, “I think you guys need to just write the ticket and do whatever you need to do.” It was so hostile. I was so confused. It was happening so fast that I could easily see how this situation could get out of hand very quickly. I didn’t feel safe at all. But one officer stopped his questioning and said, “we may not let you go. You think you’re being followed, what’s wrong with you?” At this point, I told him that I wanted to get out of the car. I wanted the passersby to see what was happening.

As I stepped out of the car another officer pulled up in front of my car. This officer was a black guy. He took one look at me and had that “Oh No” look on his face. He immediately took both officers to the back of my car and spoke to them in a hushed tone. After that, one of the officers stayed near his car while one came back, very apologetic.

I said all of that to say this: do you see how quickly this could have turned for the worse?

Now I know that there are many great officers, patrolmen and security guys out there. I am aware of that. But although we have made significant strides with racial profiling in this country, the world needs to know that we are still being racially profiled, and until this situation has improved greatly, I’m not sure how a murder in Florida can be protected by a “stand your ground law.”

And in another case that I have been screaming at the top of my lungs about, also in Florida, is the case of Terrance Williams and Felipe Santos, a young black man and a young Mexican man. Eight years ago, in Naples, FL, they were both put in the back of Deputy Steve Calkins’ police car and never heard from again.

They were never arrested, never brought to jail. They were put into the back of Deputy Calkins’ car and never heard from again. And to this day Deputy Steve Calkins is a free man.

I guess it’s time to march in Naples now.

RACIAL PROFILING SHOULD BE A HATE CRIME INVESTIGATED BY THE FBI!!!

That way local government can’t make the decision on whether or not these people get punished.

Tasha Smith’s character owns a beauty salon on the series and Bobbi Kristina will be featured in a recurring role as the daughter of one of the stylists in the her shop.

The up and coming actress has been spotted coming and going from Tyler Perry’s Atlanta Studios for a few weeks now and my spies say that her play brother/boo Nick Gordon is always right by her side.

Pat Houston has also been spotted at the facility, but I would guess it was to negotiate Bobbi’s contract to appear on the show.

Melvin Childs gathered the media because he wanted to set the story straight. A producer from Oklahoma City, OK, Melvin wanted to let the world know that had it not been for him there probably would not be a Tyler Perry. There probably would not be a Madea, and there probably would not be a black media tycoon taking Hollywood by storm.

In Melvin Childs’s new book, Never Would Have Made It – The Rise of Tyler Perry, the Most Powerful Entertainer in Black America (And What It Really Took To Get Him There), he shares his personal story of how he discovered Tyler Perry and how their relationship eventually ended. But, Melvin Childs admitted that he wrote this book because he wanted to help other young aspiring artists, and those interested in a career in entertainment.

Dining over steaks in the bustling and illuminating Grand Central Station, Melvin Childs, an unassuming man, stood and addressed all of us in attendance. With a broad smile, Melvin shared how he was introduced to Tyler Perry many years ago in Atlanta. He was invited to Tyler Perry’s first play, “I Know I’ve Been Changed,” and said he was hooked on the content of the play. “There wasn’t a Madea character in the play,” Melvin said. “The play was very spiritual and uplifting. It was a gospel play, but the story was similar to Tyler’s own upbringing of molestation and abuse.”

After experiencing the play, Melvin shared that he was willing to take a chance with Tyler Perry because he was, “very talented and very creative. He had ‘it.’”

A homeless and broke Tyler Perry became Melvin Childs’s newest project. He took care of Tyler. He helped Tyler Perry and put him up in a cheap hotel, and according to Melvin Childs he began devising a way to get money to properly fund Tyler Perry’s first play. “Nobody was interested in Tyler,” Melvin said. “He was a nobody, but I knew there was something about him.”

With his connections, Melvin Childs was able to get the money, but from less than savory resources. “Tyler was oblivious to where the money came from,” Melvin said. “I admit that we all were young and made lots of mistakes.”

In some exclusive excerpts from Melvin Childs’s book, he writes, “To ascend to the level of celebrity, you have to want it to the point of desperation. It has to consume and dominate your every waking moment. It has to be the first thing you think of in the morning and the last thing you think about at night. And if you want something, anything, that badly you will be willing to do just about anything to get it. Show me someone as famous as Tyler Perry and I will show you someone who, at some point, sacrificed his or her integrity at the altar of fame.”

He goes on to write, “Taking money from a drug dealer was never questioned. We saw it as a blessing because to us, he was that dude. Now if you were to look up “that dude” in the dictionary you would probably find a picture of Chico. He had it all – designer suits, five hundred dollar shoes, expensive cars and a stable of beautiful women at his disposal. Everything about the man absolutely reeked of money.”

Melvin goes on to tell of how much money he received –

“How much you need?” Chico asked as we gathered our things to go home.

“$100,000 would be nicely.” I replied.

“We split what comes back 50/50?”

“Right down the middle.” I said confidently.

“Alright my man, come down to Miami and I’ll take care of you.” He said with a smile. “Just let me know when you’re coming.”

Finally, Melvin writes how anyone willing to make it in the entertainment business will do anything to make it to the top, “…if you want something bad enough, you will be willing to do just about anything to get it. I am no different from anyone else in that regard. I walked away from a family that needed me and, essentially, left them to fend for themselves while I was hustling down in Atlanta, trying to launch Tyler Perry’s career. Getting that show back up was my only concern. Everything else, including family, was a distant second and would have to wait.”

“As ugly as that sounds, I was more than willing to make that sacrifice. You have to understand, it’s not just the Will Smith’s or Tyler Perry’s of the world that make difficult choices for the sake of their dreams. Behind every Tyler Perry there is somebody else who is just as willing, if not more so, to do whatever it takes. Someone crazy or foolish enough to put himself in harm’s way for the sake of something he or she perceives to be bigger than they are. Only their stories are rarely told because what they had to do is often contrary to the image that has been created for the celebrity in question.”

“But that doesn’t lessen our contribution to their success. I have no problem recognizing Tyler Perry’s talent but here is the worst kept secret in the world. You do not make it in this business based on talent. Talent is not enough. It wasn’t enough then, it’s no enough now and it won’t be enough tomorrow. Without someone standing in the shadows, hustling and grinding for him, Tyler Perry is not Tyler Perry. He is just another cautionary tale of big, unrealistic dreams that come crashing down to earth at the feet of the monster we call maturity.”

Melvin Childs reveals another shocking revelation in his book regarding Tyler Perry and the success of his first play, and his continued success, “If you want to know how Tyler Perry went from being a virtual nobody to selling out the House of Blues, the answer is simple. He was able to buy $45,000 of advertising. How was he able to do that? We gambled a hundred thousand dollars of drug money without regard to our personal safety or that of our families. That is how it happened and that is what separated him from all the other talented artists out there struggling to make it.”

“For anyone who simply doesn’t believe Tyler would have done that, I am sorry but you are being naïve. Just as naïve as anyone who thinks Tyler Perry is the only celebrity to get his start this way. For good or bad, that’s the way the entertainment business works and any aspiring performer who buys into the fantasy Tyler puts out as his bio is dooming himself to failure because it doesn’t happen that way. It didn’t for Tyler and it won’t for you.”

So the two things I realized would get me in trouble, hiring Kim Kardashian for a movie and dating you, so now I know two things that I can’t do. But no, she was great in the movie and it was a lot of fun.”

They were tweeting, ‘Have you lost your mind? All of the black women that need work and you’re hiring Kim Kardashian?’ But when they see the movie they’ll see it’s a small role that I wrote for her and she did a great job in it. You’re gonna be surprised. You’ll call me up and say, ‘You know what? She did a really good job.’

In a small luncheon with several bloggers last week at the Essence Magazine offices, the actors couldn’t sing Tyler’s praises enough. They both emphatically agreed that their working relationship with Perry is “extremely collaborative,” and that he “trusts them completely.” White mentioned that of all of the creative battles they’ve fought with director, they’ve only lost one. That happened to be the scene Tasha Smith may be most remembered for–the infamous “dinner” scene in Why Did I Get Married? “I really didn’t want her [Angela] to tell him that she slept with another man at the dinner table,” said Smith.

Smith and White lost that fight with Perry and the rest is now pop-culture history, or the future, since their characters from that film (Marcus & Angela) are the stars of “For Better Of For Worse.”

But Smith & White insist, all Tyler Perry is not created equal.  “Meet The Browns may not have been my cup of tea, but to say there’s no difference, that’s just not true,” says White. “All of his content is not the same.”

Kim and Kanye were spotted hanging out in New York last year and of course the rumors began to swirl. We don’t think they ever dated but how fun it would be to call them “Kimye”? We also think their joint obsessions with fame would cancel out any significant lifestyle differences. They both enjoy spending excessive amounts of money on luxury goods and we all know Kanye has a thing for light-skinned girls with big booties. Definitely some potential here.

4.  Tyler Perry
You know who’s richer than Kim Kardashian? Tyler Perry. This could be an amazing “beard” situation. Tyler Perry would add on to Kim’s lavish lifestyle and Kim could temper the speculation that Perry is gay. They’re both working with minimal talent but together they could help validate each others lackluster abilities by focusing on how rich they are.

Here are 5 business lessons I recently learned from my new mentor . . .in my head, that is.

1. Focus on one thing. We’re all blessed with unique, gifts, talents and abilities. You may be blessed with ten. The thing is you can’t focus on all ten at the same time and 1) Expect success or 2) Expect us to buy it. Perry encouraged one bewildered entrepreneur during the Q & A session to simply narrow her focus and master one thing, allowing that to become her feeder for future opportunities. He shared that television and the big screen were always a goal of his, but he created his niche and built his following around plays first. Let’s be real; No one trusts the woman who’s business card states that she’s a match-making relationship coach who sells real estate and braids hair on the weekends. Even if you can do all of those things, choose what you want to be known for and roll with it. Let all of your other hidden talents come out once a relationship is built – not on your business card. We, the general public, won’t take you or your business sensibilities seriously.

2. Learn the gift of good-bye. Know up front that people will come and go on the journey to success and that is their job. Perry calls them boosters. Some people are only there to help get your rocket off the ground. Once you’ve launched, it may be time for a few folk to fall off. Everyone can’t handle where God is taking you and that’s okay. You just have to be willing to accept that some people come into our lives for a reason and a season. When their time is up, we have to be content with letting them go. If they are leaving to pursue their own thing, let them go and wish them the best of luck. If you have to kick them to the curb for being underhanded, let them go and wish them the best of luck. Either way it goes, understand the gift of good-bye and just let them go. Business will thrive once you do.

Anika Noni Rose who plays a dance instructor named Yasmine, commented on the written work and how it inspired her: “My inspiration was the words. This woman has gone through something that is unthinkable and I thought that what Ntozake put down on paper, about the way we trust people with ourselves, with our spirits, with our bodies and with our lives was so clear to me. I just tried to allow it to live, as truthfully and as clear as I could.”

Tyler Perry talks about the process of transforming this theatre piece into a feature film and the struggles that he had with himself during the process. “It was intimidating work because it’s so important, it means so much to so many people, especially women, not only women of color but women in general. I think the most important part of the entire work is the final words that are said.”

Phylicia Rashad, who plays Gilda, a nosey but yet insightful next-door neighbor, talks about the bond and discussions the cast shared while filming that lead to an ultimate understanding of Ntozake’s work. “Early on, in our process of filming we would sit in the makeup trailer and we would talk about this piece… It came to us all one day, collectively in an instance that all women in the world are colored girls. The color that Ntozake Shange is referring too has not to do with the color of ones skin, it has to do with mood, heart, spirit, experience, emotion, expression, understanding or lack of it thereof…We understand this piece as an outgrowth of her studies, in literature and women studies.”

Tessa Thompson who plays a young girl named Nyla, has to deal with a pretty popular teen issue. She talks about how she looked to an unfamiliar source to handle a tough scene with Macy Gray. “The scene that Macy and I shot was about a experience that is extremely frightening. So in that particular instance I did for that day watch some porn. Actually, I don’t watch porn and the porn that I watched was frightening. I did it just to understand what it would be like to experience something that has to do with your body and also to understand what it would be like to experience that pain and that has to do with correcting an event that was pleasurable and what that means to a young woman.”

Tyler Perry also describes how he prevented the intense emotions of the characters from having a negative affect on the actresses. “Watching them go so deep, I know how dramatic it can be to go that deep. To go that deep inside of yourself, to get that range of emotion and to give that kind of performance, after its over its come up, it’s you’re ok, come up, come up. As we seen in the past, there are people who have gone to these deep places in film and have not been able to come out; there have been actors who have not been able to come out… It was very important to me that they all knew that they were safe. After it was done, then I would do what I can to pull them back up out of it.

Tyler Perry Makes History With “For Colored Girls” Casting

Being that this film is an extension of Ntozake Shange who is female, the cast discusses how it felt to have it interpreted by a male director and how Tyler Perry was a perfect choice for the film because of his approach to the project.

Thandie Newton said, “Very often men and women are spoken about in opposition, as this movie seems to be provoking. I think that the film and the strength of the film is partly a testament too the extraordinary collaboration that is when a man and woman come together and that was Tyler with all of us…Also, a man to be open and desiring of lessons… I always felt that it was never words used but that Tyler wanted us to teach him something about this experience that he wasn’t going to be able to access on his own. I think the movie is a testament to this incredible union between men and women which we mustn’t forget of lose site of.”

“For Colored Girls” will be released on Friday, November 5.

In addition to being beaten by his father (once, so badly that he blacked out for three days), Tyler Perry was also sexually abused by four different adults when he was a child.

Perry details his traumatic childhood, saying, “[It was] a living hell,” adding, “I feel like I died as a child.”

He spoke about using his imagination to escape the pain:

“I could go to this park [in my mind] that my mother and my aunt had taken me to. … I’m there in this park running and playing, and it was such a good day. So, every time somebody was doing something to me that was horrible, that was awful, I could go to this park in my mind until it was over.”

He wept when Oprah asked him what he would say to the little boy left behind? “I would say, ‘It’s going to be all right.”

Perry wasn’t the only who cried today, he brought tears to Oprah’s eyes by thanking her for all she’s done for viewers for 25 years.

According to acesshowbiz.com, Tyler breaks down when he spoke about being raped by a family member.

He told Oprah, “It’s so disgusting.”

Tyler says this is the most revealing interview he has ever done. He previously disclosed on his website that he was abused as a child.

The show is scheduled to air this Wednesday, October 20.
