Better Homes and Gardens gives us ideas on how to update our lamps:

Paper Mosaic:

Get the look of broken tile without the mess and fuss of traditional mosaic. Cut irregular squares and rectangles from patterned paper, fit the pieces together on the base, and adhere them with decoupage medium.

Sticker it:

For a quick and cheap lamp base design that really shines, apply stickers. Position a trio of flower stickers on the base and create stems with adhesive gems. Coat the base in a clear adhesive to keep the stickers in place.

DIY: Make Your Own Headboard

Flower Mask:

Use a mask to create stylish flowers on a lamp base. Made of flexible plastic, a mask is opposite of a stencil and is easily applied to the base. Attach the mask to the lamp, then spray-paint the entire base. Remove the mask, immediately after spraying, to reveal the graphic design.

Computer Printed Letters:

Make decorating a lampshade quick and easy by using a computer to print letters onto adhesive-backed paper. Cut out the letters and adhere them along the bottom of the shade. Straight-cut letters adhered to a curved lampshade create a playful design that is ideal for a child’s room.

Use Sheer Curtains To Decorate!

Colorful stitching:

Make lampshade stitching pop by choosing contrasting and complementary colors. Lightly draw the design on the shade with a pencil, then use an awl to carefully punch holes approximately 1/4 inch apart along the lines. Use embroidery floss to chain-stitch through the holes.

Decorative Paper Overlay:

Use a large sheet of decorative paper to make a pretty overlay for a plain lampshade. Roll the shade on the back of the paper sheet and trace along the edges. Cut out the pattern 1 inch outside the traced lines. Apply spray adhesive to secure the paper to the shade, wrapping the extra paper over the top and bottom edges. After adhering patterned paper to a lampshade, add grosgrain ribbon to the top and bottom edges. Keep the ribbon in place with small stitches or clear double-sided tape.

Add Ribbon:

They can be laid in different patterns and colors to create a unique lampshade to brighten up any room. Cut the ribbon lengths for each design and wrap the ends around the shade edges, hot-glue them in place.

FANTASY FRIDAY: 12 Must-Have Polka-Dot Pieces

Rihanna recently sported these Barracuda shades in Jay-Z’s “Run This Town” video. The shades, created by designer A-Morir by Kerin.Rose, are  available for pre-order now, but won’t be available for general sale until October!

Rihanna has become a fan of A-Morir after she was seen sporting the Black Version of the line’s Love/Hate Convertible Chain Shades a few months back.

Here’s Tyra Banks hitting LAX yesterday. While I’m not really feeling the 32 shades of black she’s got on, I love the fact that she’s chilling in loose pants and flat shoes – something you NEVER really see celebrities do.

It’s good to see celebs dressed like normal people when they go to the airport, whether the paparazzi is waiting around or not. Cause the truth is, when you’ve got a flight that lasts longer than 3 hours, you’re really not trying to teeter around in heels while carrying your bags from gate A2 to Z87. It sucks. So let’s just be real with ourselves here. Good job, Tyra!
