ARIES – March 21 – April 19

Peace of mind and less stress is predicted for you in 2012. Many of your hopes and dreams that were put on the back burner will start to take shape in the fore-front. Weed out unwanted and unproductive people that are in your life. Your emotions and sensitivity will run high and low, mainly high so keep things in the proper perspective and keep fits of anger to zero, this will keep you from saying things you later regret. Career remains lagging until the 2nd and 3rd quarter of the year. Learn from past career mistakes and focus on a career course that you will benefit from in terms of your passion and finances. Push yourself past your imagined limits and reap the rewards. Your love life will see a more calm and at peace state after the previous years of chaos. Let the past disappointments go and live for the now and tomorrow. If you are already involved work on clear and honest communication and listening to what your partner has to say and watch this build a stronger more loving relationship. Open up this year for new love if single. Do not be hasty and jump into situations that the red flags meet you at the door. Wait for the right options because they show up in time. Do not over exert yourself in personal and professional arenas to the point that you are stressed. If you do by midyear the wear and tear will show in your face.

TAURUS – April 20 – May 20

Lots of change has been experienced in the past year. Though change is inevitable and necessary, your previous changes have been difficult. Be prepared for more change in 2012. You will have to make the change work for you this year instead of allowing it to just drag you along for the ride aimlessly. Some long term projects or new position may hit a roadblock but clears quickly to an opening and you had better grab it and own it. Much improvement for career and career opportunities this year that comes from your more than average effort. It is high time you reach for the next level to see just how far the fates are going to take you. Even if you are happy where you are you owe to yourself to see what else is in store. With all the changes especially in work, do not make hasty decisions. Informed decisions is key, do your homework on all opportunities to see where the odds are. More stability in the romance department and less roller coasters. If you are involved make sure that your partner is completely fulfilled in all ways. This energy will be reciprocated and there will be good balance. Those who are unmarried will feel a need for a relationship and the Universe will deliver with a host of options, some good and some not so good. Be choosy. An improvement in your time management is crucial this year. Be sure there is time for exercise on a more regular basis and eating right. This will do wonders for your physical and emotional self. Choose a good multivitamin and drink your 8 glasses of water daily.

You feel the urge to be loved and the desire is there to give love. Because you have had a wall up for a while, be ready to let it down some. No one can get over the wall if you keep it too high. Be thorough not to settle for situations you know you do not feel connected to, you waste your time and everybody else’s as well. Also let situations go when feelings do not appear to be reciprocated, you only delay the right situation. You will meet someone that you find very intriguing and it will be mutual. Try to avoid all the conflict in your romantic relationship and relationship with family and friends.
This year starts off with a low profile. This works for you to get prepared for a busy 2012. The low profile period will be good for some introspection and reflection of the changes you are going to make personally and professionally. During this time you will assess the events and people of the past that have no place in your life and identify the ones that have a place. Also this time is for you to figure out what you really want and how you are going to get it. Do not give up on the projects or new job that you want this year. New contracts and agreements come in 2012. Go for this with firm commitment and knowledge of just how these agreements will benefit you financially. Near the end of the 2nd quarter you hit some roadblocks. Figure out a way around them and keep it moving. You gain more security with your money this year. Happiness and fulfillment in love is predicted for Capricorn in 2012. If you are already partnered, looking inside yourself will bring a lot of clarity to previous mistakes in love. Take no risks with your health in 2012. Make sure you are doing what you have been advised by your health practitioner and be committed to better habits in eating and dieting so that you can be the healthiest person you can be. Do not over do it, though. Moderation is the key. Make sure you make all doctor and dentist appointments to fix and maintain. This will be a good and productive year for Capricorn.

AQUARIUS

Lots of socializing is predicted for you in 2012. There will be some unwanted confrontations while out and about, but clearly more fun than drama. In the confrontations try to take the issues by the horns, let go and move on. Some important resolutions that you made will take shape and fly high. The 1st quarter brings some up and down happiness, but further into the year happiness prevails. Your way of seeing life starts to shift where you think what was impossible is very possible and you execute a plan in that fashion. Be cautious of aligning yourself with those you suspect can get you in hot water. New phase in the arena of career in 2012. More freedom and more responsibility at work. Take it in stride because you will be able to go more at your own pace without someone breathing down your back. Career goals will flourish, but do not make sudden or rash decisions about changing work or jobs. Go after your dreams with new confidence that you know it will work and you deserve it. The window of opportunity is still open, but closing fast. A much better year financially when compared to previous years. More income flow is predicted and this increase is tied to a bigger and better job performance. Some unwanted financial issues will surface around healthcare. Will be easy to take care of if you have your priorities straight. Do not be stingy with money. Yes, be reasonable and responsible, but do not forget charity and treating yourself to some nice things. In 2012 the chance to get real estate at an amazing price will come about. Do what you need to do to make this go smoothly. The year of 2012 will be more passionate and romantic than previous years. Expose your inner feelings and hear to your partner without being fearful of the consequences. Try to find a relationship without a lot of negative confrontations and accusations. If these negative spats continue to happen even after trying to resolve them one by one then the door may be the next move for you. If you are single the urgency to have a mate will be at an all time high. And be satisfied. This will require you to come out of your cocoon and see just what options the Universe will bring you. A mighty romance is predicted for you that will be fun and exciting. Do not place this love affair above your goals for business and work; it will be very easy to want to place it at the top. There will be more options for relationships that will be lasting. Any family strained relationships should be worked on in order to heal this year. Health needs to be taken more serious by practicing better exercise and eating habits. This discipline should be spread to other family members as well so that good health is a habit for everybody. 2012 works well for Aquarius.

PISCES – February 19 – March 20

2012 will be much calmer and much different from the hustling and bustling of the previous years of your life. You will feel more centered and balance. Any tasks or projects that you start need to be done until the end this year. You have had a way of stopping and starting and this year will prove to you that you can be a task master to get you what you want. A more productive, but not very exciting work place is predicted. Be certain that your tasks are on the right track and that your deadlines are met, life happens and sometimes they are not, however, strive and hit the deadline marks. That works because getting more things done at work counts; you own time can give you the excitement you seek. Time to take on some challenges when it comes to career goals and the next opportunities, there could be an unexpected upgrade or a brand new situation entirely once you get serious about career. This will require also for you to fight and bury all self doubt about your abilities. Growth of your financial means is in the cards for you. The 1st and 2nd quarters will see a steady growth of your money. Temptation to make a huge purchase right now should be avoided. It needs to be planned for and this will keep you from having so many struggling and stressful money moments. Late in 2012 there is sizable amount money not coming from work. Manage this money in a way where you take care of some debts owed. You are learning to become less harsh and more trusting when it comes to love and finding a relationship. Your passion and desire grows this year to be partnered and that need will be taken care of. Love will come from surprising places, but yet still real and great potential. If you are already involved, stop harping on the arguments and fights of yesterday. Work toward growing closer and developing the trust that allows couples to stay together for the long term. This is not easy, but very doable. Understand what your body needs to be at its healthiest. Already knowing that it starts with exercise and a balanced diet get to it. Also foods and drinks of any kind in excess will really be difficult on the body. High energy is predicted this year for Pisceans, so get your athletic gear ready and work up a sweat 3 to 4 times a week. Manage your temptations and keep them to a very minimum. The temptations work to throw you off course, you do not want that. Long term health looks good, so establishing and maintaining these habits make the difference. This year Pisces moves it up.

ARIES – March 21 – April 19

Careful not to be hasty with what you are trying to accomplish this week, it could be detrimental to the outcome. Many people around you be overly emotional, do not be annoyed, try to be there for them because you have had your moments, too. Money looks unexpectedly over the coming weeks, try to conserve and still watch your spending. Not everyone is as upfront as you are; remember that when others try not telling you the whole story, it is not as easy for them. Managing your time better will keep you from getting behind so often. Romance heating up quickly around you.

TAURUS – April 20 – May 20

Put more effort and muscle behind your wishes and watch them be realized. Good fortune is hunting you down in the coming New Year, so welcome it with open arms because it is high time. A good time to apply for new jobs or positions or even start a business. Be careful of those who seek you to give you advice you have not asked for, you could be led down the wrong path. A Scorpion is about get your attention and get you hot and bothered, take it easy and move slowly.

GEMINI – May 21 – June 20

Use a reserved response to any accusations by your lover/partner, listen attentively take a deep breath and then respond. This will keep things from becoming overly theatrical and the confusion passes quickly. Minor health issues continue a bit over the next week be nice to you physically and emotionally. Surprise news about new job or new position comes in before the holidays. Much of the workload you are given is lying the ground work for a nice upgrade, stop complaining and get it done. Face and deal with any issues from your past so that you can move forward into your future.

CANCER – June 21 – July 22

Things are aligning now for you to own your own business. A definite path that you need to explore. Others unpredictable behavior may cause you to act out of character. Be on guard to prevent this so that you won’t do or say something you gravely regret. You question a personal connection with someone you have felt close to in the past, weigh the pros and cons before deciding to cut this relationship. You have found yourself depressed and disappointed over the past year, these are only lessons to make you grow and prepare you for what’s next. Love and happiness is ready to come your way, just be ready to embrace. If you are already partnered, go that extra mile to make things better between the two of you, it will not go unnoticed.

LEO – July 23 – August 22

This week do not allow others demands burden you with their responsibilities. Keep your hopes high for finding that special someone; they are looking for you just like you are looking for them. Someone attempts to surprise you with something nice and it is not what you want. Be gracious and show gratitude, it is the thought and effort that counts. People in and around the work place are a bit high strung this week, careful not to say the wrong thing and set off a firestorm. Green money is on board and coming fast, claim and get it. Do more invigorating things and live life more, you are missing out.

VIRGO – August 23 – September 22

Be cognizant not to be neglectful to your lover/partner this week, it could set off a series of emotional arguments that can totally be avoided. Be sure to follow through with any promises, too. If you are single it is time to be found by the love you want. You are hitting and missing in love right now, but the right hit is not far off. Keep the faith. High time to figure out ways to improve your money flow. Take some giant steps toward what you want without being afraid of failing; if not what you want will continue to escape you. Thoughts about a move is not a bad idea, only follow through if it is practical and convenient. Do not let the little things cause you so much aggravation, let it go. Being friendly and cooperative gets you way more what you want than being difficult and distant.

LIBRA – September 23 – October 22

Careful what you say to people this week. It could be taken out of context and others make a big deal that could cause needless conflicts. Check up on friends and associates you have not seen or talked to in a while, they miss you and have felt neglected. Plus there is some much needed fun that you have been missing out on. Many of the planets are lining up in your favor in the coming weeks; take full on advantage by accomplishing something worthy because it will be a success. Purchase of property or starting a business within 2 years is on deck. Now is the time to start the orchestration of this. Stop the “I’ll do it tomorrow” today. Be patient, focused, and diligent to see this through. Be prepared to express your true feelings and you will learn just where you stand in love.

SCORPIO – October 23 – November 21

Money seems to be getting away really quickly this week, even the reserve. Put the brakes on this right away and no impulsive spending. Some mood swings will make you feel like telling everybody how you really feel, stop and think before you speak. You could end up severing a close friendship. Sometimes it is best to listen instead of always giving advice or information without being asked for a change. Love is trying it’s best to bring you what you want, just show up and cooperate. The money crunch lightens up in the next few weeks, but all to be back at square one with over spending for the holidays. Please set a budget and stick to it, please.

SAGITTARIUS – November 22 – December 21

Be careful of what you say in the workplace. Someone may find what you say offensive and cause unwanted tension. Meeting new people will renew your motivation and determination for what you want, be more socially active. Love starts to bloom unexpectedly, do not be overly analytical just see where it goes. A previous business an associate comes knocking again be sure to be clear of their motives. It’s high time to put all the pressures and disappointments from the last year behind you and start anew; no time for wallowing in what was a new year is upon us. Do not sweat the small stuff that cause conflict with friends, you could end up losing a friend over something silly.

CAPRICORN – December 22 – January 19

Look closer at coming love options. You may not be seeing them clearly. Be patient and see how it goes, and understand you will not be settling for less. Be sure your budget is in line before committing to any new financial responsibility, things have been tight enough. Learn to appreciate the good in all people, remember you have shortcomings, too. A new opportunity will come from a very unlikely source, so keep your eyes open. Make an effort to be around those that show interest in being around you, do not waste your time in friendships/relationships that are not reciprocal, know what you have to offer.

AQUARIUS – January 20 – February 18

The stars and planets are aligned right now for you to be head over heels in love, just be sure it’s the right situation. You have great and unusual ideas, but no one knows about them. Make a plan to showcase them; the fates have something good waiting. Do not overindulge this week in spending; discipline is the key to keep you out of financial distress. Enhance you living area and invite people over more, this will stimulate and make your friendships grow. Love is highlighted all of a sudden; do not hit the floor running to it blindly, explore first. Any deals you embark upon please be sure that it is in writing, you could end up losing in more than one way. Watch that lead foot while driving, you could find yourself in court.

PISCES February 19 – March 20

Being outspoken is just who you are, but do not over step. Some do not know this side of you and may form a wrong opinion. Time to plan a trip, short or long, it is needed. Use your past mistakes to get you ahead now by not repeating them. An emotional conflict is bound to arise if you have not been totally honest with your lover/partner, get this cleared up before it is an issue. Money starts to flow, so put some in savings and not spend every dime. Potential love affair starts to heat up; if you are single put forth more effort to meet new people, love and happiness is seeking you out.

Hey Paul,

This is always a sticky situation when it comes to dating ex’s of friends and family. Right off there is an amazing connection between you and R with all kinds of potential for long term. Your brother is going to have a major issue with this union, as you probably already know. The Emperor is the obstacle and The Emperor is sometimes impossible to deal with or hard to change his mind about something. You should have told him at the first hint of this because he is also going to accuse you of going behind his back and even trying to be slick about this. You and R do continue on with a relationship. Your relationship with your brother will heal in time, he has the love of his life coming in soon, so he will at some point forgive. Good Luck!!

K, the whole idea that the longer you wait the more “feelings” he will have could really backfire on you. The longer you keep yourself in a relationship where you are not being honest will definitely make things emotionally challenging not only for him, but for you as well. Now go do the right thing.

ARIES – March 21 – April 19

Be careful about discord at work this week. Arguments can get out of hand if you make assumptions without hearing the facts, so do not over react. There is a feeling of being able to accomplish whatever is in front of you, make the best of this and look into making some professional changes and even some social ones. Focus more on the change you can make instead of what you cannot. Some romantic options will show up.

TAURUS – April 20 – May 20

Choose your words carefully, you do not want to give off the wrong impression or lead anyone astray. A major discussion with someone in a high position leads to an opportunity. Putting forth effort to do your best will put you in a position amongst your peers and colleagues to be admired and set a standard. Do not be so pushy with your romantic partner, this is a constant conflict starter. Do not make any promises you know you won’t keep.

GEMINI – May 21 – June 20

Stop making excuses for people and see them for who they really are and make decisions accordingly. This is a good time to do many of the things you have been putting off professionally. Pondering a move should be weighed greatly, be sure that the move will be of benefit in the long run. It’s up to you how you live your life, stop seeking approval from others. Back and forth love situations need to move forward or let go, figure it out.

CANCER – June 21 – July 22

Watch your moodiness and be cautious not to let people get to you, keep a low profile so you can avoid all the drama and conflict. Work on reconnecting with old friends, it will bring back some fond memories and create some future exciting plans. Time to make changes in your living space, especially living room and bedrooms. Remember love does not come easy, waiting for the right situation will be well worth it. News of business ventures keeps coming up, investigate it.

LEO – July 23 – August 22

Love is in the stars and good times are right around the corner. Your insight and ability to answer questions is helping to put many ahead, you need to take some of your own advice. Watch your emotional highs and lows, keep them in control. Money energy opens, but no major breakthroughs until after summer. Old romance will be like new, just like starting over. Be sure it is worth it.

VIRGO – August 23 – September 22

Do not let anyone take advantage of you emotionally or financially. Stand up to them, enough is enough. Look outside the box when it comes to career choices and go for what you really want, you only live once so get it now. Do not discount a move that could be a major advantage to your professional career. Time to take some risks and see just what you are made of and see what the Universe has in store for you. Push back those that are pushing you, time to have some backbone.

LIBRA – September 23 – October 22

You seem to make someone very nervous this week because they cannot tell your next move, so give some explanations to ease the air. Very challenging weeks ahead for you. but you come out on top with no regrets so make clear and accurate decisions. Look into joining an event or organization where your expertise is needed and it gives you a sense of accomplishment and helping others. Too much of a good thing is bad, go with moderation and there will be balance. Surprises in romance await you.

SCORPIO – October 23 – November 21

You have a lot to say this week. Be sure those who need to hear it are in ear range and do not be over the top about it. Emotional stress needs to be relieved in order for you to produce your best work, not the time to be stuck and unproductive. Love is all over you by July, so be open and get ready. Something you hid from yourself resurfaces accidentally.

SAGITTARIUS – November 22 – December 21

Do not let your being too generous get you in a financial bind. You always want to help or be there, however, right now it will cause you more stress and worry than you need. More responsibility at work over the next 30 days will show what you are really capable of. Make necessary changes and you will be quite surprised at what a difference you see. Now through September should be a very busy time for you creating your long term goals. If there is not yet a plan, it’s way past the time to have one. Pay close attention to small details in your romantic relationship, this will prevent things from exploding later.

CAPRICORN – December 22 – January 19

You are gaining more momentum and getting yourself in a good position now to advance career. Many around you are experiencing a multitude of issues and need advice. Help them when you can, but not at the cost of you losing ground in your accomplishments. Put more emphasis on home finances. Any and all alterations you make in the home will be well worth it and making your space more comfortable and company friendly. Be cautious how you deal with a sensitive issue with a friend because things could turn ugly at the blink of an eye.

AQUARIUS – January 20 – February 18

Try not to be sucked into a difficult situation, you could end up being to blame. In your personal life, make plans for you and partner to do something new and exciting and if you are single go out and be social and look to have fun and not search for the love of your life. Consider contacting someone you were fond of but circumstances did not allow enough time. Wait until the 1st of June to sign or negotiate any contracts – that is the New Moon, which is a new start.

PISCES – February 19 – March 20

This week could be one of the best for you. Take things in stride and be clear about what needs to be done to get you ahead. It has been time to get the ball rolling and it is all waiting on you. Hits and misses in the romance department brings you face to face with a new potential long term, be patient. Money energy looks better and better, your hard work and planning is starting to see the light of day. Learn to be more adaptable and friendly in social situations, there are more interesting people than just you, you know.

JUST ASK WAYNE!!

Reposting of question from October 26, 2010

Psychic Weezy,

I have been listening to you on the Rickey Smiley Show for the past 3 years and really like when you are on. I have won money on at least 2 of your predictions, one was the Superbowl last year and the other one was when the Celtics beat the Lakers 2 years ago. My question is do you think the Lakers will win the championship this coming season?

Rock

Hey Rock,

As I always tell people the Tarot is not for gambling, it is to enlighten us in decisions about creating the future that we want. I am going to do a 5 card spread this time and see what they reveal about the Lakers.

1. The Ace of Wands – signifies when they started their streak in the 2000′s of all the wins.

2. The Two of Pentacles – they didn’t win every championship that they got to, but stayed strong.

3. The Emperor – signifies their strength and dominance in the NBA as if they seem impossible to beat during the final championship game.

4. The King of Swords – They without doubt are about to be faced with losing their crown by the King because he has his sword prepared and ready to do damage.

5. The Tower – Looks like they are going to be dethroned this coming season easier than we expect. There is a new Sheriff in town Lakers..be ready.

The 5 card spread is as follows the cards 1 and 2 are the past, 3 is the present, 4 and 5 are the future. Don’t make it a habit asking me this Rock, if you lose you’re on your own!

You are prepared and equipped, more importantly so many projects are coming close to do or die, get to it. A new romance needs a little push and things start to heat up quickly. Do not let up until you have reached your goals this week, these things need completing badly.

Options in the love department start to become really clear choose the right one.

GEMINI – May 22 – June 21

There is so much to be accomplished if you are willing to work for it. You know what needs to be done in the process to get what you want and where you want to be. Do not let naysayers get in your head and discourage you. Keep moving forward and make it happen. Stand up to bad relationships whether romantic or platonic, it’s been stifling your productivity.

CANCER – June 22 – July 22

A work meeting/event allows you to shine brightly in front of those that matter. Follow your heart this week, it leads you to make a big decision that you do not regret. Professional advancement should be a huge focus right now; personal relationships will work out on their own.

LEO – July 23 – August 23

Complete chores and responsibilities or any important matters before indulging in social or fun affairs. Minimize your stress by taking care of the things that you know you need to handle. Overspending urge is happening to frequently, this need to be curtailed as soon as possible. Put forth more effort to communicate better with friends and family, those that matter to you. You ask for an opinion and get the idea that the grass is always greener elsewhere, please do not fall into that trap.

VIRGO – August 24 – September 22

This week taking on a challenge professionally or personally will allow you to see just what you’re capable of doing. You have been under estimating yourself for way too long. You need to dig deep for some more discipline and foresight to get a lot done at home and at work. Take time to sort through any concerns with loved ones, there has been enough confusion lately causing emotional upheaval. Romantic encounter gives you more vision of what you really need and want in a partner/lover.

LIBRA – September 23 – October 22

This week important to look before you leap, some small and not so small regrets will surface in the weeks ahead. Look for a peaceful balance with work when things become chaotic because you tend to over react and then wished you hadn’t. Continue to strive for self-improvement instead of the never achieved self perfection. Think twice before mixing business with family right now, usually best not to mix the two, however, this week will be extra tricky. You are admired from afar romantically, do some digging to find out just by who.

SCORPIO – October 23 – November 21

Stop looking for so many faults with everyone, especially your mate. Start this week to be more aware of this tendency. This is a time that you should be looking and feeling your best, if not get in gear to make this happen. A hopeful potential love begins to blossom, take baby steps. Money struggles flare up if you overspend on someone or something, so watch what you are doing.

SAGITTARIUS – November 22 – December 21

This week be sure to keep track of all important paperwork. Weeks or even months from now a situation occurs where documentation is of most importance. The more inconsistent you are the longer it takes you to get what you want and to be where you want to be. Being more loving and affectionate to your love one gets you big results in resolving past conflict. If single, this is a really good time to get out and about, love will be close by.

CAPRICORN – December 22 – January 20

You have to get your money straight now. Extra money will elude you for the next few weeks, so hold on to what you got. It’s high time to reorganize your living spaces, especially bedroom and kitchen areas. Be careful about lashing out with that sharp tongue of yours when you become flustered, you will spoil a potential opportunity. Take the blinders off in the romance area, the time is now to know and claim that partner you want, they exist.

AQUARIUS – January 21 – February 19

It is important to meet new people now because somebody that will become very valuable is coming into your life. Work on managing your time better in order to feel more control of the things in and around your daily life. Too much time passes and you often do not have the progress to show for it. Gravitate toward those who motivate, it gives you the confidence to do the things you have been wanting to do.

PISCES – February 20 – March 20

Someone is moving away and this bothers and this bothers you. Do not worry; there are more interesting and intriguing people that are about to enter your life to not only fill the void, but to inspire you as well. Fight the procrastination monster right now because there are so many things that need to be completed and accomplished. Idle time will be your enemy, fill this time constructively. Understand that making mistakes is all a part of the process to get ahead, do not be so hard on yourself when mistakes are made you are human. Still stay open for new and improved love affairs, stop clinging to yesterday.

JUST ASK WAYNE!

Dear PW,

I have read your many articles and have loved each and every one of them. My mother has always been pretty religious, thus my brother & I were brought up in many different churches; so we were always told to stay away from Psychics, and anything that may be considered evil. Seriously, the woman wouldn’t even let us celebrate Halloween, and as a kid it wasn’t about the “theme” we were in it for the candy lol. Anyhow, sorry if I went off on a tangent. Basically, here’s my dilemma. I was dating a man for almost 3 yrs and him and I were great together in the beginning but things changed over time we both work and barely got to see one another and things eventually started going downhill. Trust me there is a list of things that occurred but don’t wanna write a book lol. We tried to make things work but nonetheless nothing has changed and I was physically & emotionally drained. I finally told him we should no longer date which we now are friends but we do still have feelings for each other. My whole thing is I want to be with him and he wants me in his future but idk what the cards hold for us. On top of that I kinda developed an emotional connection with a friend of mines but he has a girlfriend so that’s a sticky situation. Right now idk what to do. I know who I want to be with and what I want but I was hoping maybe you could give me some insight. My initials are DB 05/19/86 and his are RD 05/18/76.

Hey D,

Some parents are of the mind set that whatever they deem to be a detriment to their kids it’s not a way around it until you are of age. When we grow up and experience and see certain things it is only then that we can make the decision as to what interest us. I am glad to see that you have reached beyond her way of bringing you up to be open to enlightening subjects like this. So, let’s get down to business. Seriously D love and relationship has been more in your way that out. The relationship with R is not a dead issue, it’s a matter of timing right now. This is who you end up with, but there is so much to get through before things can be close and develop into the commitment that you want with him. With absolutely no judgment, that ‘sticky’ situation you mention needs to be nipped in the bud. There is no future with you and that situation at all, at very minimal it could be only fun and you are already feeling an emotional attachment, that leads straight to disappointment. It’s time you look beyond your search for love and start to look outward for the many things I see in a career with your God given creativity. Let R be who he is now, because it’s just not time. There will also be other men of interest to you, but none go long term. Get yourself situated to find and get all that this life is ready to offer you because you are letting it pass you by waiting on love! Good Luck!!

The literacy rate in America is officially 99%. But before we sit back, open the champagne and pat ourselves on the back, consider this…

America has a functional illiteracy rate of 22%. This means that over 44 million American adults cannot do anything more complex than make out certain letters, or spell their name. They cannot read anything even as complex as a restaurant menu, or street signs. And don’t even consider being able to read a note from their kid’s teachers or a job application form.

In contrast, Vietnam, a county still considered ‘developing’, has a functional illiteracy rate of 6.7%.

WTF? How, in this country, in the 21st century, can we allow this to happen? And how can we reverse the trend?

Growing up, there is a stigma attached to reading, for boys anyway. If a guy wants to stay in class, and doesn’t want to skip, he is open to ridicule, at least from some. It isn’t considered cool to get an education, and the temptation to be out earning cash is seen as far more enticing than sitting in a classroom. In Vietnam though, education is valued, and it is treated with respect, because it is the only way to get ahead.

Reducing the stigma associated with reading needs to be done before kids get to school, and ultimately rests on the parents. If you wait until your child has already fallen so far behind the rest of the class, then the temptation to drop out and do something they can do easily is too strong. But if the importance of reading is instilled in childhood, then school will be easier, and dropping out will not be a first port of call to deal with struggling to keep up with others in the class. Parents need to treat education with the same value that it is treated with in Vietnam, by reading to and with their children and making it completely unacceptable to cut class or drop out at the first possible chance.

Changing attitudes to reading can help to drastically change the picture of functional illiteracy in the future. In Washington D.C currently, almost one third of adults, are illiterate. However, only 8% of these people, are seeking help. Victoria Beckham even once (at the height of Spice Girls fame, when she was a role model for millions of pre-teen girls), boasted about never having read a book in her life. How has that become something to be proud of, or even admitted to? To reduce the stigma for kids that is associated with reading, and not being able to read for adults, it needs to be more socially acceptable to seek help with reading in adulthood and adults need to set a better example for their kids, by making reading a part of life. Perhaps then, future generations will not have to make it to adulthood without being able to read.

Not being able to read though has more tangible consequences than embarrassment, or ridicule. It (obviously) drastically reduces employability and earning potential. 3 quarters of people who rely on welfare, cannot read above a fourth grade level. Workers with a high school diploma or less are much less likely than people with post graduate education, to have sufficient retirement savings and are much more likely to live in poverty than those who have achieved a postgraduate qualification. According to the United States Department of Education, 60% of prison inmates are functionally illiterate as are over 85% of juvenile inmates. Almost half of these juvenile inmates lived in poverty. The link to breaking the cycle of poverty and crime, is education. But how?l

Spending on public schools has more than doubled in the last 15 years, but the rate of illiteracy has barely changed, and is actually increasing by 2.2 million every year. Clearly, the system isn’t working. Only 30 American states even require high school graduates to be able read at an eighth grade level. How is anyone expected to go onto a postgrad education if they have gone all the way through school without being able to read sufficiently? How did nobody notice that they couldn’t read, when almost 20% of students can be classified as functionally illiterate by the time they graduate?

It is shocking to think that so many people can slip through the cracks and we need to make some drastic changes, both in society as a whole, and within families, to try and reverse the trend. To steal from Will.i.Am at the Super Bowl, ‘Obama, let’s get these kids educated’.

ARIES – March 21 – April 20

This week expect to take on the responsibilities of someone not up to the task expected of them. Lots of emotional moments this week as well, so be prepared to comfort and sympathize and find some resolve for someone you love. Lay off doing so many favors for those who never return them. Last year was filled with you helping others, take a break and let the others learn to help themselves. Rays of light around love is starting to shine, be open.

TAURUS – April 21 – May 21

Though you know what you want, you have had trouble getting it off the ground. Focus your determination and discipline to get this up and moving this week. All appears to be heating up in the romance department, be more open even if the suitor doesn’t appear to be quite your ‘type’, you just might be surprised. Do not be impulsive with spending this week you will be headed for a setback.

GEMINI – May 22 – June 21

You effortlessly dazzle you coworkers with your insight and drive for perfection. You quietly become a role model in the work place, even though you are ready for greater horizons. It’s definitely time to focus on love and relationships, all work and no play is making you grumpy. A commitment of love is looming.

CANCER June 22 – July 22

Stop hiding all your emotions from those closest to you. It’s OK to need emotional support instead of always giving it. Changes start to happen this week, you can embrace the change or resist it…resisting will get you absolutely no where. Roll with the change and see what the Universe has in store. Be much more aware this week of your choices that affect you emotionally and financially this week.

LEO – July 23 – August 23

You have always been there to help friends and family, but this week an occurrence happens to make you feel a bit used. Do not take this to heart; because sometimes those you help may not show the proper appreciation, however, they know where they would be without you. Be crystal clear when asking questions and especially when giving answers this week. Now is the time to surround yourself with positive people doing positive things, you need this.

VIRGO – August 24 – September 22

Someone from your past keeps popping up in your mind. Before you pick up the phone think about why the communication stopped in the first place. Do not always take what others say to you as criticism, sometimes it’s merely what they think and sometimes you need to hear for your own good. Getting overly upset this week will be a waste of time and could affect a friendship for good. This eruption could lead to a huge disagreement. Leave it alone, doesn’t matter is your opinions differ, stop it from happening. It’s time for some real TLC, it’s coming unexpectedly.

LIBRA – September 23 – October 22

Just because certain people don’t agree with you doesn’t mean you need to change your way of thinking or handling things. An emotional matter at work occurs, don’t get in a defensive mode, and let it roll of your back it passes quickly. Fix up your place and prepare for guests over the next few weeks. Travel plans should start to be discussed, you could use and you deserve a vacation away.

SCORPIO – October 23 – November 21

High time to make changes in your personal life. You need to learn to flow through with your own plans and ideas regardless of what others may think. Keep your emotions on an even keel this week, you could run into or hear from someone that you never expected to see or talk to again. Enough of the self pity and woo is me…it’s a brand new day and a brand new year time to move toward the happiness mode. Infatuation at work can lead to a surprising encounter, watch what you doing.

SAGITTARIUS – November 22 – December 21

This week find what you do best and naturally. This should be this year’s goal so that you won’t have to work so hard to be paid. Do not be so suspicious of everybody that crosses your path. Not everyone is out to manipulate or trick you. The love and happiness that has eluded you is starting to see the light of day, prepare. Work on organizing your work space, the clutter and disorganization is hampering your accomplishment. An encounter with an old fling is on the horizon, this is fun only and no emotional ties.

CAPRICORN – December 22 – January 20

Line up things this week you need to make this year a productive one and get it moving. Also work on meeting deadlines in a more timely fashion. Offering some assistance to someone you know in dire need will end up paying off as a big favor later in return. Opportunities you have been waiting on start to make noise be prepared to follow up and follow through. Keep in touch with those you care about the most, you have been negligent. Believe that you can have the love you want, just be patient enough to allow love to meet you half way, what’s the rush?

AQUARIUS – January 21 – February 19

Time to take care of all legal and financial issues that you have been putting off. A close friendship will undergo changes that can have a lasting effect. Be sure to talk out any and all issues pertaining to the friendship and listen and be reasonable. There is some great advice coming to you from an authority figure….listen and follow it. Open up and try new things to challenge yourself socially. Get out more often outside of your comfort zone; you really are more exciting than you think.

PISCES – February 20 – March 20

Gauge your time more wisely to balance work and play. Family and friends admire you a lot; let them know how much you appreciate them and how important they are. A near flat love life is about to go fluffy, be patient and cautious as you are about to connect with the right soul. If you are already involved, turn up the flame and get things heated up, all you need and want is already there. Time to rid your home of all the things you no longer need. Time to make some room for the new.

JUST ASK WAYNE!

Hey, Psychic Wayne. I need your advice. After a year of dating, I had just about thrown in the towel this past December when met a man on a dating site. His name is T S (born 2/22/1969). After a while of talking, we met in person and I was pleasantly surprised at how much chemistry and attraction we had. The second date came New Years Eve when he invited me for breakfast. Again, we had a great time, and he invited me to his place that night for cocktails and to bring in the new year. I agreed and we had a blast. He immediately said he wanted to pursue a committed relationship with me, and he was certain of that. I suggested we take our time and get to know each other, but T was insistent. Well… things were great until this past week. This past weekend he disappeared telling me he was spending time with his child. Long story short, I found out he wasn’t with his Son and he actually didn’t come home that night. T insisted he was working a double shift-which he often does, but I am not buying it. At one point, he texted me and said he was at the movies with his son which

I know is a lie because the son said he had been home all day.

I am totally confused because this man was dragging me around looking at houses (for him to buy) and often he made jokes about “when we get married”…. T swears he has not cheated on me, but I am not so sure. I have decided to disappear in order to clear my head and also give him a taste of his own medicine while I decide if I should stay or go. When he calls, I do not answer, and I have been slow to respond to his texts. He obviously noticed, as he has been commenting about why he hasn’t heard from me.

I need to know what is up with this man. We are both Pisces, but he is the first Pisces I have dated, so I am a bit confused about his actions. I need some insight so I can cut my losses now if I need to. Is he seeing someone else of is he sincere? What do you see in the cards for us?

I’m P P, born 3/4/1971. Thank you!

Hey P,

The cards could hardly wait to answer this. The Moon fell out of my hand and onto the floor for starters. The Moon is the card of intuition and also means deception. First of all, your intuition is working strong; this man has absolutely been lying to you. As I laid out the rest of the cards I saw the Queen of Wands and the Queen of Swords which means he is involved with someone and has been seeing an ex that is hopeful that they will get back together. What’s really interesting in the reading is that the chemistry and attraction between you two is real and genuine. You have a major past life connection to T. The outcome tells you to let this situation go because emotionally you are headed for a disappointment. I don’t think that it is impossible for this work at some point in your life, but there is no way it can work now. This man is doing one old juggling act and you don’t need to be a part of it. If you back away he will be disappointed and try to convince you otherwise, but stand your ground. I know it’s disappointing to feel that kind of connection and have to let it go, but it’s truly an accident waiting to happen. Good Luck!!

There are some true street lit authors who write from their experiences, and then there is the Duchess of street lit. De’nesha Diamond has put pen to paper and gives a graphic and vivid inside look into the streets from a female perspective. In her new novel, Hustlin’ Divas (Dafina – November 2010; $15) it is the first book of a fierce, groundbreaking new series. Meet Memphis’ hardest ride or die chicks as they fight along with their infamous men to lock down the dirty south.

In Hustlin’ Divas readers are introduced to Ta’Shara who has no interest in following in the footsteps of her older sister LeShelle in the street game. But when she falls for the brother of a rival, her own sister orders a punishment so severe that it sets off a chain of events that can only end in a hail of bullets.

LeShelle didn’t get to where she is by being nice. Outside of her hardheaded sister, she’s got bigger problems when a drug mule tries to take her spot beside her man, Python. To get him back, she will have to pull off the hustle of a lifetime—and pray she can walk away without the use of a body bag.

Yolanda is ambitious—even though she’s not the smartest chick on the block. However, a lucky break lands her in Python’s bed and makes her an enemy of the chick that no one dares to cross.

Melanie is a police detective, but that doesn’t stop her from helping her thuggish boo Python and his crew from skirting the reach of the law a few times. But when she starts catching feelings, everything goes to hell.

National bestselling author De’nesha Diamond burst onto the scene as the co-author of the gritty, Desperate Hoodwives tales. The Essence magazine recommended series has taken the street-lit game by storm and paved a brand-new path for the edgy Memphis native who understands that there’s a fine line between glorifying thug life and telling it like it is. De’nesha Diamond spins cautionary tales inspired by personal experience and the heartbreaking stories that make our nightly news. In the end, she aims to deliver hope, even if sometimes there are no rides into the golden sunset. You can visit De’nesha on her website, HERE!

I spoke with De’nesha about her unique writing style and her breakout series.

TD: What prompted you to write, Hustlin’ Divas?

DD: The storyline is really my attempt to do something different. Everything from the pacing, the structure and even the characters are from me analyzing how I can create something a little different. On its face it could have been five different stories from the five main characters. Getting them to connect into one big picture is challenging and exciting at the same time. Reader will be surprised to know that I really don’t know what’s going to happen either.

TD: Are your main characters, who are some true Hustlin’ Divas, anything like your friends in your real life?

DD: Absolutely, positively not. I’m allergic to drama. Now, do I have ghetto drama in the family tree? Who doesn’t? But I’m just usually the one that hears about it instead of being around it.

TD: Why did you decide to make Memphis as the backdrop of your story?

DD: You know, I just really had a desire to write about my hometown the way that I saw it. It has a whole other vibe than what the city tries to promote. Usually when you think of Memphis it’s all Elvis Presley and good Barbeque. The racism is palpable and in your face. Places like Whitehaven and Germantown. You get the sense they just wanna say ‘Blacks, stay the hell out.’ (And that’s the P.G. version of what I wanna say.) So to answer your question, I wanted to write about the place more than say this particular story. Plus, I haven’t read any street-lit based there, yet.

TD: In writing, Hustlin’ Divas did you experience any epiphanies or ‘Ah-ha’ moments that connected with your own life?

DD: I wish I could say yes to that, but none of these characters are like me in any way. Writing, often give me a chance to be a bit of an actress. It’s something that I enjoy.

TD: What do you want readers to take away from the novel?

DD: Other than De’nesha Diamond deserves a place at the table? I’d say that the lesson of there being consequences to every action and that there are no do-overs in life. A lot of the women, LeShelle and Yolanda particularly, act and react strictly on an emotional level. It’s about their feelings and their desires. The other people in their lives are obstacles in reaching their goals. A singular focus like that can and will leave a lot of blind spots. That kind of driving can cause a lot of wrecks. Ones that don’t end well.

TD: What is next for you?

DD: Well, currently I’m wrapping up Street Divas-which is the second book and then I’ll immediate launch into the last book Gangsta Divas—but there’s so much going on I’m starting to think there needs to be a fourth book. I also have another novella to write A Gangsta and a Gentlemen. I’m really looking forward to all those projects.

De’nesha has agreed to give away three copies of Hustlin’ Divas to three lucky persons. The first persons to answer the following the question will win a copy.

What is De’nesha’s real name?

Please send your answers to girlworkonyou@aol.com

Good luck!

Best-selling author Pat G’Orge-Walker has done it again with her latest novel, DON’T BLAME THE DEVIL (Dafina – September 2010; $15). Appearances mean everything to sixty-year-old ex-fashion model and jazz singer Delilah Dupree Jewel. But just as she finally receives God into her life, she’s tested when her daughter-in-law dies. Long estranged from her son Jesse and granddaughter Tamara, Delilah steps in to help them put the pieces back together. But Lord knows she’ll have to dig hard to find her maternal instincts.

But Delilah soon discovers Jesse wants nothing to do with her. And Tamara, who’s following in her jazz footsteps, has her own ideas about making it to stardom—and they have more to do with using her talents on the “singing couch” than about letting her voice speak for itself. Just when Delilah thinks she’s had enough, she’s reunited with her old flame Thurgood Pillar—an ex-convict who’s traded in his gangster ways for a Bible. All Delilah knows is that she’d better hold on to her faith, ’cause she needs God now more than ever.

Pat G’Orge-Walker is the Essence® bestselling author of Somebody’s Sinning in My Bed; Somewhat Saved; Cruisin’ on Desperation; Mother Eternal Ann Everlastin’s Dead; Sister Betty, God’s Calling You, Again!; and contributed a short story to the anthology Proverbs for the People. Growing up a preacher’s kid gave G’Orge-Walker a quirky perspective on the church community and inspired her to create a one-woman comedy show centering on Sister Betty, an elderly super saint whose unchristian-like behavior blocks her blessings. With the success of the Sister Betty comedy show, G’Orge-Walker turned her humor and imagination to writing. She resides in Long Island, New York, with husband Rob.

I spoke with Pat G’Orge Walker about her latest novel, and the craft of writing.

TD: What prompted you to write, Don’t Blame The Devil?

PAT: For many years I’ve wanted to explore several circumstances surrounding the lives of my parents. I touched on it a little when I wrote Somewhat Saved. I was able to explore a father/daughter relationship based upon me and my fathers’. In Don’t Blame the Devil I had the chance to explore a fictionalized account of mother/child/abandonment and ultimately what happens when one tries to lead God. I wanted to show that God does not change His mind…no matter how crazy we get.

TD: The main character, Delilah Dupree Jewel, is struggling to reconcile with her family after she herself has reconnected with her spirituality. What lessons can one learn in their own spiritual walk, or reconnecting with family after becoming renewed and reborn in their religion?

PAT: Dealing with family under any circumstance is both challenging and rewarding. Bringing a religious or spiritual element to those who think they often know you better than you know yourself can fill volumes. However, with this particular story, I wanted to show that actions have consequences and that sometimes those actions lead to generational consequences. I also wanted folk to understand that what God has planned for you is for you. It’s never dependent upon what others think or do. The dreams you have yet to achieve are just as real as those you have; one must continue to stay the course and stay in your own lane.

TD: In writing, Don’t Blame The Devil, did you experience any epiphanies or ‘Ah-ha’ moments that connected with your own life?

PAT: Since this story is based in fact there were several moments. One in particular was the conversation that Jessie had with his young daughter Tamara. Jessie was conflicted in how he both hated and loved/admired his mother. How could he hate when he claimed Christianity? How could he love/admire a woman who abandoned him at the age of two to selfishly pursue a career? I won’t give away the answer but it put a lot of pieces of my own puzzle into place.

TD: What do you want readers to take away from the novel?

PAT: I would hope readers take away from this story that we all have different paths; some will sail through, others will drift, a few will go through fire and many will ride the waves of doubt; yet with all we go through, just like lint…those experiences stick and are meant to construct whatever it is that God needs from us. However, the glue is obedience/faith/love and worship. I pray the reader gets that. I also want the readers to learn that seniors don’t stop living or loving when the gray appears or the sun begins to set.

TD: What is next for you?

PAT: There’s quite a few things happening and many that I am contemplating. This year I celebrated thirty-five years of Sister Betty and it’s been an awesome journey of which I’m still traveling.

Pat G’Orge-Walker has agreed to give-away three copies of her books – Don’t Blame The Devil; Somewhat Saved; and Sister Betty! God’s Calling You Again

The first three persons to email the answer to the following question will win a copy of one of the books.

What legendary ’60s singing group was Pat G’Orge-Walker once a part of?

Please email your answers to: girlworkonyou@aol.com

It’s the summer – the sun’s out, hammocks are in style. What better way to relax in the summer breeze than by opening a good book? Reading is a great way to unwind outside and enjoy the weather while also exercising your mind – however, with the world being busier than ever these days, a lot of people don’t make time to even open a book. There are many books deemed “beach reads” and “summer trash novels” – perfect for this time of year, yet many times, even fun books get put on the back-burner for laptops or electronic media.

Unwind after a long day at work or spend time outside – even reading before you go to bed would be enough time to crack open an interesting novel or read some short stories! Making time for something as intriguing as a good story might sound like a lot of work, but once you’re involved in reading something you enjoy, the time just melts away. What are some ways to clear your schedule and make time for the fun summer reads?

1. Clear at least half an hour of your schedule each day for reading. Sometimes, giving yourself a set time to do something gives you incentive not to miss that block of time. Maybe you don’t read all that much and are pressed for attention, especially if you have children and other responsibilities to worry about. Even if it’s just the train ride into work or a half an hour after the kids have gone to sleep, reading’s something that stimulates your mind was also bringing you a peaceful vibe. Summer reads that are light and easy are the best – they’ll enthrall you, but aren’t too complex for the warm months. Enjoy the relaxed nature of the weather and read outside – then you’ll get the best of both worlds!

Time And What It Means To Your Life

2. Make a list of books that you want to read. If you have a set plan or at least a general idea of what you want to crack open during the summer months, it’ll be easier to plan those reads in. If you just want to go with what you’re in the mood for, put the books you’re thinking about in a pile and then sort through them each time you finish a book. Either way, you’re thinking about what you really want to read – and that’s a good start!

3. Carry a book around in your bag wherever you go. Even if it’s just a few pages here and there, a little reading while waiting for a friend or sitting outside briefly could be a little treat during the day! If you don’t have a big enough purse, just leaving it in your car or having it available next to you for your lunch break at work could make life a little less stressful. Although it’s important to remember not to be antisocial and not use reading as a crutch in order to not to talk to people, a quick skimming of a page in a novel might be all you need to get back on task!

4. Reduce your time using technology. In the recent decades, the Internet and television have been replacing time when people would ordinarily pick up books. For example, there are many people who would rather sit in front of the television than open a book just because reading feels like a chore to them. If you’re reading something that interests you, then there’s no reason to not enjoy it. Technology is great for the world and the Internet has really revolutionized the way we see the written word, but sitting down with a good book or magazine is a great way to be intellectual without feeling like you’re in school again. Turning off the video games or Blackberry is a great start to reclaiming your reading skills while still relaxing the summer away!

Technology And What It Means For The Next Generation

5. Read everything you can get your hands on. By that, I mean the news – in print or online form, magazines, books, ads in the subway, etc. Basically, anything that involves even the slightest stimulation, since it’s just fun to learn more about the world around you, even if it’s through a magazine or a billboard. Reading should be fun and not a forced hobby. Keeping up a love of the written word is important in life, especially with technology replacing and changing the way we see words. Just pick up a newspaper on the way to work – expand your mind, but only read what gives you enjoyment. It’s the summer!

Check out this article for more information on how to keep your enthusiasm for reading alive. It’s always a good plan to check out bookstores for ideas or browse a used book store – engross yourself in books and maybe you’ll just fall into one right away!

I grew up without cable. "There are better things to do than watch TV," said my mother. So I read books, did arts and crafts, and found a lot of ways to be constructive without 790 channels standing in my way.
I grew up without cable. “There are better things to do than watch TV,” said my mother. So I read books, did arts and crafts, and found a lot of ways to be constructive without 790 channels standing in my way. Sure, I watched movies and the occasional TV show (I have babysitters to thank for the latter), but television was never a priority, and I think it’s been pretty beneficial in my adult life.

However, more and more often one hears, “My son/daughter LOVES [insert TV show]” and less and less often I hear “My son/daughter LOVES [insert book]!” What the hell? Where’d all the books go? They turned into educational DVDs, that’s where.

However, I’ve uncovered yet aNOTHER study (click here to read the first one) that says that the less time kids spend being couch potatoes, the smarter they are. Says LiveScience,

Even infants zone out in front of the television, and it turns out this translates into less time interacting with parents and possible lags in language development, a new study finds.

“We’ve known that television exposure during infancy is associated with language delays and attentional problems, but so far it has remained unclear why,” said lead researcher Dimitri Christakis, director of the Center for Child Health, Behavior and Development at Seattle Children’s Research Institute and professor of pediatrics at the University of Washington School of Medicine.

In fact, the American Academy of Pediatrics discourages television watching before the age of 2, a time when critical development, such as language acquisition, occurs. (Christakis said a baby’s brain triples in size during the first two years of life, so there’s a lot going on in that little noggin.)

Not popping in DVDs doesn’t mean you have to have a ton of time to spend with your kids, either. My mom was a single mom, and we got along just fine. Just let the kids do what you do! If you’re reading, read out loud and follow the words with your finger. Or let them read with you. If you’re cooking, let them stir. You’ll find that you have more time to spend with your kids than you thought, and eventually they might prefer a good book instead of another episode of Spongebob.

Folks say that practicing yoga is the best way to manage or release stress, but did you know that reading also reduces stress?

New research says reading works better and faster than other methods to calm frazzled nerves such as listening to music, going for a walk or settling down with a cup of tea. Psychologists believe this is because the human mind has to concentrate on reading and the distraction of being taken into a literary world eases the tensions in muscles and the heart.

Meditation minute makeovers.

The volunteers were monitored and their stress levels and heart rate were increased through a range of tests and exercises before they were then tested with a variety of traditional methods of relaxation.

I have to begin this by saying that I’m extremely proud that my son is learning to read. He is now a card-carrying member of The New York Public Library System. But his newly-acquired powers are really starting to cramp my style.

When my son was younger, it was easy to hide things from him. When my wife and I were having a conversation and wanted to camouflage certain words or phrases we could just spell it out. For example, if we wanted to plan something while he was in the room, like taking him to a movie, we could say, “let’s go and see S-H-R-E-K…” and he’d be none the wiser. But now that he’s stacking just as many books as Pokemon cards, that tactic is played out.

If we were out and about, the biggest fear used to be him being able to recognize certain logos as we drove by: “Oooh, Toys R Us!!” or “Daddy, McDonald’s!!” But it’s beyond mere recognition now. The other day my man said “Daddy, chicken nuggets are only 99 cents! Can we get some? Pleaase!! They have Madagascar 2 Toys!! And they’re hiring!” I can’t even plead broke anymore cause my son can read the Dollar Menu AND probably fill out a job application!

Justin reads everything now: street signs, scribblings in the bathroom at our local diner (a real problem there) and my random hip-hop promo T-shirts with questionable song titles. There is nothing more embarrassing than your six-year-old looking at your shirt and moving his lips to sound out “Bust…It…Ba-by.”

The worst of it all is his fascination with DVR. The kid can scroll through a week’s worth of TV and find all of his favorite shows. I turn on my set sometimes and there are 25 episodes of “Spongebob Square Pants” already recorded and five more being scheduled.
If we’re sitting and watching TV, I can’t flip through the channel guide the way I used to because he can read the titles of dang near every movie and show out there. “No wait, Daddy, The Iron Giant is on…no, Flushed Away, waaait… Bee Movie!” Sometimes I just want to turn to him and yell, “who taught you Octagon??”

But it all felt better when I went to get his report card yesterday and saw all of those As, Gs and whatever else they write on there to say your kid is damn smart. Now, if I can only figure out how to disable the DVR when I’m not home.
