FROM MTV: Rihanna has had a difficult past 12 months in the aftermath of her assault by Chris Brown. But the “Hard” superstar has endured, by being both outspoken about her experience in hopes of helping others and by channeling her experience into Rated R, her most rounded effort to date. She told MTV News last year that she “vented” on the project.

Don’t expect her next album to be as dark as Rated R, though.

Rihanna said the follow-up, which has no timetable set yet, will be less intense. She told MTV Korea:

“Rated R, I love the sound of it, in terms of the bass. I really like the bottom, the grime of it. But if I were to combine that with more energetic, up-tempo pop records, then I think that will be a happy marriage. And that’s where we’ll probably go next.”

“This album is an expression of all those feelings that I went through in the last eight months, just different emotions,” she said shortly after Rated R’s release. “All of it isn’t angry, all of it isn’t dark and sad, ’cause I didn’t go through that the whole time. That was part of it. It was really a roller coaster, and you get that when you’re listening to the album.” READ MORE HERE!

“[The video] is completely different from any other video I’ve shot before. A lot of my videos are really dark and edgy and tough. ‘Rude Boy’ is more playing along the lines from my roots… We used a lot of color, but also the costumes were very Jamaican dance-hall queen type.”

Rihanna’s “Rated R” may have not broken any records when it was released, but amidst the slew of so-so tracks was the standout record “Rude Boy.” It was definitely the most instantly likeable of the bunch and could move, quite seamlessly, to mainstream radio.

All Access confirmed today that the song is set to officially go to US radio on February 9th.

When The-Dream and Tricky Stewart first played Rihanna “Hard,” they did it almost as a joke. They thought there was no way she’d go for the song. Little did they know Rihanna was looking to ad some swagger to her “Rated R” album, and the song was just what she had in mind.

“Funny enough, when I first heard the song, we were in Paris — they flew out there to play me some songs they had done for me, some ideas. And before they played ‘Hard,’ they were like, ‘We’re gonna play you the ghetto one first, and you have to do it, you have to do it. They thought I wouldn’t like it, and when I heard it, I just loved it. It had such an attitude and a swagger … super cocky, and just a fun song. We just thought it was the perfect song for Jeezy [to do a verse on]. It was made for him to collaborate on it. And I think he did an amazing job.”

And in keeping with the feel of the song, the video is equally tough: an over-the-top military exercise, only with a decidedly Rihanna touch. “It’s couture military,” Rihanna explained. “Everything is surrounded around the idea of something military. We have tanks, we have troops, we’ve got helicopters, we’ve got explosions. We’ve got lots of cute outfits, lots of bullets. It’s crazy.” (MTV.com)

Rihanna‘s publicity team has officially put the gear in drive, and the starlet blazing full speed ahead towards the release of her new album “Rated R.”

For all of you Rihanna addicts, be prepared to get your fix, because she’s going hard in anticipation of her LPs release.

Her first single, “Russian Roulette,” has already made it’s Billboard Hot 100 debut at #9, and the video, directed by Anthony Mandler is dark, cinematic, and surely controversial.

According to her publicity team:

The video premieres amidst a flurry of activity, including the online release of Rihanna’s “Wait Your Turn” video – also helmed by Mandler – and the release of “Hard feat. Jeezy,” a track that has created a frenzy of radio and club play nationwide.

According to Billboard, “Russian Roulette” earns Rihanna her 12th career top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, placing her second among female acts this decade.

As the heat surrounding the November 23rd release of Rated R continues to rise, Rihanna is set to make her return to the stage with an onslaught of appearances in the coming weeks. On Monday, November 16th, Rihanna will partner with Nokia in a first-of-its-kind concert event from a secret location in London. Fans worldwide will be able to stream the concert live from the web and on their Nokia mobile devices, and be among the first to hear material from her new album. On Sunday, November 22 –the eve of Rated R’s release – Rihanna will make her return to the national television stage with a special performance on the American Music Awards, airing live on ABC at 8pm EST. Rihanna, who is currently on a media blitz this week, recently sat down for a candid interview with Glamour Magazine. She is being honored by the magazine next week in NYC and has been given the title of ‘Glamour Woman Of The Year’ alongside Michelle Obama, Maya Angelou, Serena Williams and others. HERE ARE SOME EXCERPTS!

ON THE LAST YEAR:
Glamour: Let’s talk about this past year—you’ve obviously been through some difficult things. How did the people around you help you cope?

Rihanna: My friends and family have been extremely supportive, and everyone has been there for me. But at some point you are there alone. It’s a lonely place to be—no one can understand. That’s when you get close to God.

Glamour: Are you referring to the [Chris Brown] incident?

Rihanna: I am talking about starting with the night [before] the Grammys and then on. That was not the only thing that occurred this year. The picture leaking…it was one thing after another.

Glamour: You’re talking about the photo [reportedly of Rihanna’s injured face taken by police after Brown assaulted her] that was allegedly leaked by cops. You handled that so well; you kept silent in the press.

Rihanna: It was humiliating; that is not a photo you would show to anybody. I felt completely taken advantage of. I felt like people were making it into a fun topic on the Internet, and it’s my life. I was disappointed, especially when I found out the photo was [supposedly leaked by] two women.

Glamour: Do you feel that this experience has laid the groundwork for coping with anything so public again?

Rihanna: It has taught me so much. I felt like I went to sleep as Rihanna and woke up as Britney Spears. That was the level of media chaos that happened the next day. It was like, What, there are helicopters circling my house? There are 100 people in my cul-de-sac? What do you mean, I can’t go back home?

ON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE:
Glamour: If you could offer a message to the millions of young women who look up to you, what would you tell someone who found herself in a similar situation?

Rihanna: Domestic violence is a big secret. No kid goes around and lets people know their parents fight. Teenage girls can’t tell their parents that their boyfriend beat them up. You don’t dare let your neighbor know that you fight. It’s one of the things we [women] will hide, because it’s embarrassing. My story was broadcast all over the world for people to see, and they have followed every step of my recovery. The positive thing that has come out of my situation is that people can learn from that. I want to give as much insight as I can to young women, because I feel like I represent a voice that really isn’t heard. Now I can help speak for those women.

ON THE NEW ALBUM:
Glamour: I think that’s a great message. What about your new album? What’s it like?

Rihanna: I was involved in a lot of the writing. I put everything I’ve wanted to say for the past eight months into my music. The songs are really personal. It’s rock ‘n’ roll, but it’s really hip-hop: If Lil’ Wayne and Kings of Leon like my album, then I’ll feel good. I would not change anything about it. Even if people don’t love it, I made exactly the piece of art that I wanted to make. It’s super fearless—which is exactly how I feel right now. I am in a really good place.

By now, you should have seen Rihanna’s racy single cover for “Russian Roulette.”

Here is the cover for her impending album, ‘Rated R.’ The grainy black-and-white cover was shot by famed photographer Ellen von Unwerth, who says that “Rihanna was looking to create something a bit new for the look of the album.”

Von Unwerth goes on to say that Rihanna is “so beautiful, sweet and tough at the same time — and a pleasure to shoot,” adding that she’s “fantastic to work with — very giving, very creative, very involved in every aspect of the shoot, and ready to push the boundaries.”

The album, which is set to be released on Monday, Nov. 23, is Rihanna’s first album since 2007′s ‘Good Girl Gone Bad.’

It is the same day Lady Gaga’s sophomore effort, “The Fame Monster,” and 50 Cent’s “Before I Self Destruct” will drop.
