Divine Brown, the former prostitute who made headlines for her famous 1995 encounter with Hugh Grant has publicly thanked the actor for “changing” her life – because she was able to carve out a “wonderful” new existence after the scandal.

‘That was the trick that changed my life, honey,’ she tells the UK Daily Mirror. ‘The event that earned me a million dollars.’

‘I was just trying to pay a few bills that night. ‘Lo and behold I got a celebrity. I’d agreed to go with him for $50, but ended up with more than ten thousand times that. God has a path for us all.’

Divine, now 41, earned more than $1.5 million from media interviews and guest-show appearances. In the days following Grant’s arrest, Divine appeared on almost every show, including Jerry Springer, Judge Judy and The Howard Stern Show.

Everybody, it seemed, wanted a piece of the real-life “Pretty Woman” and lucrative branding deals followed, including a lingerie and lipstick line. She managed a house in Beverly Hills, a Rolls-Royce and designer clothes.

‘I was able to buy amazing things, beautiful gowns and dresses,’ she says. ‘I was always attracted to the glamorous life and that half an hour with Hugh Grant made me able to buy all the things I’d dreamt of having.

‘That film Pretty Woman seemed to be what my life was about. Hugh Grant was my Richard Gere. But I began to change, too. I began to grow. I began to realise I was nothing more than a one-night trick, not a celebrity.’

Most of her money was spent on showy cars and a flashy lifestyle, but enough was invested wisely in property to allow her to put her two older daughters, Cheyenne, 21, and Brianna, 20, through college.

She remains adamant that she turned her back on prostitution for good only days after the Grant episode: ‘The fuss afterwards scared me right there and took me off the game.’

“I know he helped to upgrade my future and my family, but I upgraded his, too. He got more recognised and more movies after that night.”

Today, she goes by her birth name, Stella Thompson, and runs a music production company in Atlanta with her fiancé Richie Fediccinni.

‘I have the most wonderful life now,’ she says. ‘I’ve got a nice new home with three bedrooms and four bathrooms. It’s very pretty and I have a beautiful garden with flowers. There’s no pool, but I do have a picket fence. I thank the Lord every day.’

R&B singer Ne-Yo may be involved in a real mess!! I’m hearing that there is a growing scandal in France – one of their most popular soccer players, Franck Ribiery, allegedly slept with a 16 year old prostitute named Zahia.

It’s been reported that police in D.C., the city with the highest rate of HIV/AIDS in the country, are using possession of condoms as evidence of sex work.

And they’re not the only ones; New York and San Francisco have used safe-sex devices as a means for arrest, as well.

WTF? How can it be legal to punish, wrongfully label, and mar one’s public image all because he or she made a conscious decision, at some point, to do what they’ve probably been told their whole life?

I remember being told to abstain from sex. At least until marriage. And if I wasn’t planning on abstaining, I was supposed to use protection. And if I was to use protection, I wasn’t supposed to depend on the guy to bring it. Meaning I had to make the “walk of shame” to the nearest CVS myself, past the hair and body products, and into the family planning (or lack thereof) section. “Put your life into your own hands” – it was said and it was true. And then, unfortunately, in high school, someone mentioned that girls who carried condoms were “easy” and those that were easily influenced stopped using them and some got pregnant and some didn’t. (What definitely didn’t happen though were those girls becoming prostitutes but, I guess, that’s a minor oversight.)

It’s been distributing free condoms to combat STDs since 1971, but some businesses are even afraid to offer them because they can also be used as evidence of “maintaining a premises for prostitution.” In D.C., if caught carrying three or more condoms in a “Prostitution Free Zone,” you can be accused of intent to sell sex. But in San Francisco, police defended this practice by claiming that “a pocket full of condoms alone is not a basis for arrest.”

A basis for arrest? Should it be a factor at all?

I’m not condoning public sex – far from it. But a late night out, a single car ride somewhere, and a pocketful of condoms doesn’t always mean prostitution – maybe one hell of a night with no inhibitions and a happy ending, but not illegal sex.

Half of these sugar daddies are married, while the vast majority of the sugar babies are in their ‘20s. The best news of all for these guys? Sugar babies outnumber sugar daddies 10 to 1. Brandon Wade, Seeking Arrangement’s 38-year-old founder and chief executive, says, “We stress that these relationships are mutually beneficial. We ask people to really think about what they want in a relationship and what they have to offer. That kind of upfront honesty is a good basis for any relationship.”

Some of these men – especially those shopping for women half their age – are digging deep into their pockets to pay for an illusion: that despite their receding hairlines and wattled skin, they’re still enchanting enough to charm pretty young women…. Men may use money as a way to buy themselves out of the normal obligations of romance, like accommodating a woman’s emotional needs as much as their own. But despite the power and security that the money buys, it can also undercut the very ego it’s intended to boost.

In those cases where sex occurs between the daddy and baby, some of the women say that an attraction is necessary, while others are quick to ‘fess up that if not for the lavish gifts and money, the relationship wouldn’t exist. “It would be nice not to have the money involved,” says B.K., one of the sugar daddies interviewed for the story. “You always wonder: would she still want to be with me even without the money? Does the money make me more attractive than I really am?”
