What if your child went missing, but news of this terrifying event was only covered on local news stations, despite similarities to another case on national TV? It’s horrible to think of any child going missing, especially when they’re young and could be in grave danger. This type of incident happens all too often, but the idea that one child is white and the other black shouldn’t have a bearing on how much coverage the stories get. However, this very incident happened to Anthony Thomas, a black boy from Washington DC who went missing, while Kyron Horman, a white child from Portland, Oregon who disappeared under similar circumstances. This story was compared to the disappearance of Mitrice Richardson, a black woman who went missing and shared the cover of People magazine with someone else. Mitrice Richardson’s father has been working hard to make sure her case gets the coverage it deserves, which is definitely a step forward, but that still doesn’t help the fact that there’s a discrepancy in news coverage of missing persons.

Personally, I think news coverage should be equal. Anyone going missing is a tragedy and although not everyone can get equal coverage, there shouldn’t be such a difference of race, gender, or creed in who gets more air time. Everyone’s worth something and should have a chance to have their voice heard. The new coverage differences may be subtle, but they’re still there and should be recognized in the national media in order for them to change.

This former bad boy of R&B is once again in trouble with the law! This time he’s dodging child support payments. Here’s the story from Yahoo News:

An arrest warrant has been issued for Bobby Brown after he failed to appear in a Massachusetts court on a contempt complaint.

Norfolk Judge Christina Harms ordered Brown arrested the next time the singer is in Massachusetts. He failed to appear at a June 29 hearing.

The Boston Herald reports that Brown has fallen $45,000 behind in child support payments for the two teenage children he had with former girlfriend Kim Ward.

A phone message was left for Brown’s lawyer in Atlanta.

The 40-year-old Brown is a Boston native and ex-husband of Whitney Houston. He is supposed to pay $5,000 in child support per month for the children.

Brown was jailed for four days in 2007 for failing to make the payments.

And he just brought another kid into this world too..smh.

Here’s a video of the controversy surrounding a baby doll that has been pulled from a chain store’s shelves. The Black version of the doll is adorned with monkeys and wears a headband that says Lil Monkey. The White version of the doll has panda bear friends and its headband reads Pretty Panda.

Foxy Brown apparently recieved V.I.P. treatment during her jail stint in 2007-2008. Sources claim that the star wore designer clothing and recieved special meals. Well, you could take this week’s Newsweek cover and its accompanying story a couple of ways. The fact is, Oprah Winfrey really DOES say some outlandish things on her show – and that isn’t to say they’re untrue; it’s just that the pathway to health and happiness isn’t as 1-2-3 easy as she’d like to make you believe. But it’s a talk show – everything that needs to be said and done about one’s lifestyle has to first attract an audience, and then be able to fit into a 40-minute segment.

But did the magazine go a little far with this cover? Perhaps you could say they’re doing just what Oprah does – saying and doing just enough to catch your initial attention with such an abrasive cover, regardless of what the actual article says on the inside. Or maybe they’re just being way too harsh.

Or maybe someone’s finally not afraid to step to The Winfrey! She practically runs the world. I wouldn’t mess with her.  But I have to give it to Newsweek for having cojones.
