Now that you have your duffel bags and travel kits out from Memorial Day weekend, it’s time to start planning your trips for the summer. We all know that with today’s economy gas prices and plane ticket prices are shooting off the charts. Don’t let this keep you from exploring this summer! Pick a few places that you want to go to and plan ahead: the sooner you get started, the more affordable your trip will be! Here are some places that we at HelloBeautiful think that you need to visit before labor day!

Las Vegas, Nevada:
Whether you’re 21 or not, Vegas is definitely a good travel spot for people of all ages. Even if you can’t spend your night at the tables and slot machines, there are plenty of incredible shows and restaurants. This tourist hot spot holds plenty of beautiful hotels that are easy to get to. As soon as you are on the strip, you will be taken aback by the lights and liveliness of Vegas!

New York City, New York:
This ‘concrete jungle’ will definitely keep you interested and excited. Whether you’re on a trip with your 5 best girlfriends or with your husband and 4 kids, New York has an endless amount of activities. From Broadway Shows to live bands in Central Park, New York encompasses a type of energy that you won’t find anywhere else. When you are planning this trip, keep in mind that taxis in New York can really clean out your wallet- be sure to learn the subway systems! After all, people playing music in crammed subways is a big part of the New York City culture!

Waikiki Beach, Oahu, Hawaii:
Besides the beautiful beaches and incredible food and drinks that Hawaii offers, Oahu, Hawaii is also the home of history. Plan a helicopter ride over the old volcanoes and learn about the legendary geography of the area. Take advantage of the different activities such as parasailing and jet-skiing to get different views of the beautiful scenery of Hawaii. Don’t forget to drink your fruity beverages right out of the coconut as you lay under your umbrella in the hot sand!

Sea World, Orlando, Florida:
Educational and entertaining for the whole family, Sea World provides an aquatic escape that an ordinary water park can’t. The shows are enjoyable for audiences of all ages: after all, who doesn’t like watching animals be cute and funny?! Whether it’s swimming with the dolphins or watching seals jump through hoops, you’ll definitely find some sort of sea animal entertainment.

Jennifer Lopez suffered an identity mix-up recently when she was mistaken for Beyonce while in New York City. Jenny “from the block” Lopez stepped out of her car wearing an all black outfit with her hood up and the photographers thought the bootylicious blonde was Beyonce. OUCH!!

NYC Says No Soda For Food Stamp Recipients

The City of New York wants to help prevent childhood obesity. They plan on doing that by first tackling the food stamp system. Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Gov. David Paterson of NY have a plan to announce Thursday that they are seeking permission from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which administers the nation’s food stamp program, to add sugary drinks to the list of prohibited goods for city residents receiving assistance for two years. In other words, those who rely on food stamps monthly to feed their family will not be allowed to purchase soda products with their food stamps. If approved, it would be the first time an item would be banned from the federal program based solely on nutritional value.

How To Whiten Your Teeth

There have been various reactions to this proposal. One being that the Mayor and Governor should not be allowed to regulate how parents feed their children. Another being that if they are granted the right to regulate food, what other freedoms will be stripped?

I see the validity in both arguments but here are my thoughts. I do think that their approach may be a little aggressive but let’s face the facts. America is suffering from an epidemic of overweight children. Unhealthy eating and low exercise are the causes. For that reason, perhaps a shift in our children’s diet is necessary. Unfortunately some parents are either unaware of how to feed their children healthy meals or simply are uninterested in doing so, regardless of how unhealthy and overweight their children may be.

Unfortunately when you receive any type of assistance from the government that gives them a reason to have you under their control. This is the double edged sword that comes along with receiving assistance from someone. They have a certain amount of domination over you. With that being said, food stamp no longer paying for soda is not that bad in the big scheme of things. Parents can still purchase it with their own cash. I would be more insulted if they were banning parents buying milk with their food stamps or water. These are two very necessary healthy elements of any child’s diet. Soda is not one of them.

Foxy Brown Throws Down In Luxury Building Brawl

When if Foxy going to learn?? The Brooklyn rapper was caught throwing down in a luxury building in NYC. According to tmz.com, Foxy was reportedly involved in a brawl with several people including her manager.

The fight took place in the lobby of a luxury high-rise in New York City.

Witnesses tell TMZ that Foxy was visiting someone in the building when the fight broke out and Foxy was seen throwing down with several people. It took more than 10 people to break up the fight, and the NYPD eventually showed up on the scene but Fox Boogie had already fled the scene. A witness says Foxy was fighting with a bunch of people including her manager. When asked about the fight her manager would only say, “No comment.”

No one was arrested….yet.

It was a year of first for fashion. First Africa had a inaugural fashion collective and now it is the big girls turn! June 25-27 in NYC was the very first Full Figured Fashion Week, which Kim Coles hosted. According to American Demographics, in America alone, there are 40 million women over size 14, spending $25 billion a year on clothing, or a quarter of all clothing sales! There hasn’t been any full figured representation in high fashion, though, until now! Fifteen designers flaunted their amazing interpretations of fashion for the plus size fashionista in a variety of ways! From swimwear to outerwear and everything in between.

The goals of the event were to get people more conscious of plus size women and the struggles they have shopping. Also, the event was a wake-up call for clothing producers to see the type of audience they are missing.

Full Figured Fashion Week

This is much needed as the size of a fashion model is shrinking along with the patience of many full figured women. I would argue many people couldn’t name 5 plus size models, but could easily name five non-plus ones. We know the queen of fashion, Anna Wintour, isn’t too happy about this recent development, based on her statement that “I had just been on a trip to Minnesota where I can only kindly describe most of the people that I saw as little houses, and I just felt like there’s such an epidemic of obesity in the United States. And for some reason everyone focuses on anorexia … We need to spend money, time, and education on teaching people to eat , exercise, and take care of themselves in a healthier way.”

The past 10 years has seen major improvement in this area. Now there are at least select brands that produce some very cute clothes for big, beautiful women, however it is not surprising for a full figured woman to have to shop online or search weeks before finding a great outfit. These women should be able to spend a day shopping where she doesn’t have to sit behind a computer screen and stare at pictures. Maybe this will be the breakthrough for plus size fashion.
