In tribute to Whitney Houston, it’s been an All-Whitney-Music-Day today and of course one performance that comes to mind is her timeless and classic rendition of “Star Spangled Banner,” which reigns supreme.

The 1991 Super Bowl XXV performance by Whitney Houston trumps all past and future national anthem performances, and the unforgettable execution of the song lead to the release of a charity single by Arista Records. Thus, we were inspired to create a list of best national anthem performances at sporting events throughout the years.

Christina Aguilera Apologizes For National Anthem Super Bowl Mistake

Christina Aguilera’s performance had the internet all abuzz last night when she flubbed the lyrics of the national anthem at the Super Bowl. Less than a minute into the song, Christina had a little hiccup…instead of singing “O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming” she improvised “What so proudly we watched at the twilight’s last reaming.” We have to hand it to the songstress, she continued on, belting out the correct lyrics all the way through her 11-second-long note at the end of the song.

The singer released a statement regarding the performance:

“I got so caught up in the moment of the song that I lost my place. I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through.”

Kelly Rowland Sings National Anthem At Giants Football Game

R&B star Keri Hilson had quite the embarrassing episode last night at the LA Lakers vs Atlanta Hawks game.

While performing the US National Anthem (‘The Star Spangled Banner’), Hilson blanked out, forgetting the words to the iconic song in front of the thousands in attendance.

Though she handled her mistake like a professional, we couldn’t help but laugh a little bit.

Mary J Blige To Sing At Tonight’s World Series Game

And you say NYC!!! Mary J. Blige is set to sing the National Anthem at the World Series’ Game 6 at Yankee Stadium tonight.

MJB is the latest superstar to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” during the championship matchup between the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies. John Legend and Alanis Morissette have also lent their voices to the traditional pre-game performance.

In her first public appearance since the tragic murders of her mother, brother and nephew in October, Oscar winner and “American Idol” vet Jennifer Hudson gave a stunning performance of the national anthem before the Super Bowl on Sunday.

Stepping onto a small blue platform, Hudson took a deep breath and leaned easily into the microphone, letting loose her signature crystalline vocals on the country’s anthem, bringing the song a dreamy quality that rivaled one of the other great renditions of the anthem at the big game: Whitney Houston’s legendary soul shakedown in 1991 during the first Gulf War.
