The couple who split last April after almost five years together – have now settled their differences, with Halle allowing Gabriel more access to Nahla.

“I feel like she’s Black. I’m Black and I’m her mother and I believe in the one-drop theory,” says Berry, who was born to a White mother and a Black father. “What I think is that that’s something she’s going to have to decide. I’m not going to put a label on it. I had to decide for myself and that’s what she’s going to have to decide – how she identifies herself in the world,” she continued.

Halle made sure to point out that even though she is and has dated men from outside her race, she embraces her African-American heritage:

“Well, first thing I want to say is that I’m very connected to my community and I want black people to know that I haven’t abandoned them because I’ve had a child with a man outside of my race and I’m dating someone now outside of my race who is Spanish and French…I have never been more clear about who I am as a black woman. The people I have dated sort of hold up a mirror to me and help me realize more of who I really am.”

Gabriel would tell Halle and others they should demand a “retraction” when such references were made regarding his daughter.

I’m not sure I’m buying into this one…Gabriel knew Halle was “black” when he hooked up with her, so why would it be an issue that his daughter is not white??

In one of the more recent pictures of Halle Berry that is floating online, she is carrying her daughter on her hip while walking down the street. Halle’s daughter Nahla is about 4 years old. I noticed one of the main responses to the picture is that the daughter was too old to still be carried by her mother.  I agree that at some point a child can become too big to be carried on a constant basis. However, I see nothing wrong with an occasional request for a “pick me up” as my mother and I like to call it, even from a 4 or 5 year old.

I have a nephew who is now 7 years old. When he was 4 and 5 I was still picking him up and even allowing him to sit on my lap.  Hell, I allow him to sit on my lap now if he wants it. Older women in my family would tell me to put him down; he is too big for that etc… I honestly could have cared less at the time. That is probably the feeling Halle has.

A child deserves to feel love, to receive affection, to be held, to be comforted, and even to be cradled at times. There should be no age limit to this requirement. Of course I think it is foolish and counterproductive to a child’s growth for any parent to constantly carry their toddler on a day to day basis. Never letting their feet hit the ground while in public. However, a “pick me up” on occasion is perfectly normal.  I also do not agree with the statement that showing a child too much affection is how a child gets spoiled. My Grandmother and I held hands, hugged and cuddled to the day she died 6 months ago. In fact, getting in the bed with her in the morning to have our morning talk is one of my most fond memories of our time together. Let me add the detail that these are things I did with her regularly even as an adult.

Part of the problem we have now is that many kids feel a lack of love, emotion, and affection. There is a strong coldness and emotional disconnect that is within the younger generation. Perhaps if we supply them with more love, and more affection then that wall of stiffness and anger that they have will start to crumble.

Taking time to bond with her precious daughter Nahla, Halle Berry was spotted out and about in Los Angeles yesterday afternoon.

The “Monster’s Ball” babe carried her little one in her arms as she made her exit from Cravings eatery, doing her best to avoid the paparazzi.

And it looks like Nahla is already turning into a fashionista, as she sported some very stylish red sunglasses to complete her already-adorable outfit.

Next week, Nahla will be celebrating her second birthday and you can be sure mama Halle will throw her a proper party.

Halle Berry with her daughter Nahla Ariela were unhappy to see photographers outside Barefoot restaurant in LA after having lunch with a friend. Apparently, Halle’s daughter was not feeling the paparazzi and started crying and Halle kicked into mamma mode and lost it. Halle got so mad when they wouldn’t give her space, she told them to “back the f*ck up!!” The cops had to be called.
