The president showed off his skills recently when he sang a bar of an Al Green song during a fundraiser at the Apollo Theater in New York City.

The First Lady dazzled in her high waisted mint green J. Crew skirt, a gold-flecked sweater and a pair of low, pointed-toe heels for  her TV appearance.

Michelle Obama On Motherhood: ” I Am Just Hoping That I Don’t Mess Them Up”

1. Her nickname is “Miche” (pronounced “Meesh”).

2. Her husband calls her “My Rock”

3. Her father worked the swing shift in the boiler room at Chicago’s water purification plant.

4. She grew up with her older brother, Craig, and parents in a one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment. She shared the living room with her brother, which was separated by a room divider.

“Like any mother, I am just hoping that I don’t mess them up,” the First Lady told a crew of reporters at a White House roundtable discussion about motherhood and her “Let’s Move” campaign against childhood obesity.

“It’s really the interaction that we have as a family that makes it feel like home,” she said. “It’s sitting down at the dinner table and having Barack’s day be the last thing anyone really cares about.”

“It is me and Bo and we’re in the garden. And one of the reasons we did this picture is because we get so many letters from kids, mostly, who want to hear about the garden, they want to see it, and they also want to see Bo. Bo is really the most popular…We’ve heard so many great stories from kids who’ve been inspired and doing things like changing the way their families do things. And those letters are always just a joy to get. So we want to have something a little more tangible than just a letter to give to kids, because often it’s the visual thing that makes it real.”

In her forthcoming book about the garden, which will be released in April of 2012, Mrs. Obama describes how her girls “were the catalysts for change for their family’s eating behavior which inspired her national initiative to address childhood obesity and resulted in the idea to plant a vegetable garden on the South Lawn.

And who could forget the name of the man who designed it? Jason Wu (whose fame rose considerably after that day).

Now Wu, 28, is collaborating with Target to create a collection all his own, according to Elle. He told WWD:

“My collection for Target features clothes and accessories that are easily convertible from day to evening—sophisticated, feminine dresses, mix-and-match separates and playful accessories all with a bit of charm and dressed-up attitude.”

The collection will hit Target’s stores (and site) in February of next year. We can’t wait! See it here!

In the October Upscale cover story, entitled “National Treasure,” Michelle Obama opens up to Spelman College graduates about her life as a young black girl in the Southside of Chicago.

“Some of you may have grown up like me, in neighborhoods where few had the chance to go to college,” explained Mrs. Obama, who prefers to be called Michelle.

The cover story will also detail the impact Mrs. Obama has had on fashion, reasons for her style choices, reflect her comparison to previous first ladies, including Jacqueline Kennedy. The feature also covers Mrs. Obama as a wife and mother, coining the term mom-in-chief, highlighting the Obama’s ability to bring a positive image back to the black family.

Ma’am and/or sir, why is this a thing of wonder? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not throwing shade. Pippa is an attractive and shapely woman (very slim, but with a nice frame). But she isn’t carrying anything in her ‘backyard’ that is such a wonder to behold.

Why is there such a fascination with non-Black women who have butts? Back when we were the only ones known for having large bottoms, they were the worst thing ever. But in the past ten years, it seems like everyone wants to be bootylicious. And women like Pippa are being held up as some sort of gold standard when her butt is more worthy of a participant ribbon.

To paraphrase Paul Mooney, “everybody wanna be a Negro, but don’t nobody want to be a Negro.” However, considering the fact that Pippa’s butt is more on the flat side than the J.Los and Kim Kardashians of the world, perhaps praising her behind is a shift away from the big booty obsession. Is the Pippa-pimping a return to the rejection of the more voluptuous (and typically considered to be “ethnic”) body type? I think that’s a more than likely possibility.

Our “royals” are a family of Black folks from the South Side of Chicago. And even though President Obama has a unique pedigree, the woman by his side is an undeniably Colored one. Brown skin, Black girl hair, big booty. For all those who have celebrated the victory-in-diversity that is an Obama White House, there are folks who want to get that ‘old thing’ back. And Pippa is undeniably uncolored. Hmm…am I just a conspiracy theorist, or do you see the connection here?

“Women energize me. My husband is terrific. He is my true partner. Spending time with him is key…. But it’s also important for us as women to find each other. And there’s that natural reenergizing that happens when women get together. We kind of hold each other up.”

On finding balance and teaching it to her daughters:

“If we don’t have the energy, we can’t pass it on. I learned it from watching my own mother (Marian Robinson) not invest in herself, for example. She’s starting to do that. But she came from the tradition of family first. She wouldn’t even go to the hairdresser on a regular basis. I want to show my girls that it is perfectly fine to invest in yourself and to start to do it early, embrace it and not feel guilty about the time we put into ourselves.”

The August issue features a smiling Michelle Obama sitting at a picnic table on the White House lawn. She’s wearing a blue and white floral dress and yellow sweater.She reveals in an interview that after moving into the White House she was not as active as she had been—and reveals her clothes began to get tight.

The Better Homes and Gardens story brings students from Harriet Tubman Elementary in Washington to the White House for a veggie-laden picnic lunch with the first lady. It’s complete with photos of chard and tips for helping children learn to love vegetables.

Mrs. Obama reveals in the interview:

“Ironically, her more constricted life has made it harder to follow her own advice about staying on the move. “I became more sedentary,” she admits. After her first year at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, she was surprised that her body had changed. “I realized that some clothes were getting tighter,” she says. “I didn’t know what was going on.” She has increased her time at the gym, and now banters with her husband–”I always tease him I’m in better shape than he is.” She laughs. “I can do longer workouts. He’s the President.” Their physically active lifestyle is also an implicit signal to their daughters. “Ultimately kids emulate what they see. You don’t have to make a lecture if you’re living it. We don’t talk about working out, we just do.”

Mrs Obama will visit a daycare centre in Johannesburg this afternoon and tour the Apartheid Museum, which chronicles the history of the struggle against white-minority rule. The six-day trip will also take the first lady to Cape Town and the Botswanan capital Gaborone.

In addition to advancing her international youth engagement agenda, the First Lady’s events will amplify the President’s support for democracy, development and economic opportunity across Africa. During her trip, Mrs. Obama will deliver the keynote address to a U.S.-sponsored Young African Women Leaders Forum in South Africa. Forum participants include young women from across sub-Saharan Africa who are leading or involved in social and economic initiatives in their own countries. The Forum will build on the Obama Administration’s ongoing engagement with the next generation of African leaders and the momentum of the August 2010 President’s Forum with Young African Leaders held at the White House.

The deadly tornado that hit last Wednesday took more than 300 lives, making this the worst tornado in the United States since 1932. During their visit, President Obama make a conscious effort to prove that he is taking this natural disaster more seriously than previous Presidents.

He also went on to say, “We can’t bring those who are lost back. They are alongside God at this point,” and promised the city’s mayor that Washington would help repair the city and ensured them they wouldn’t be forgotten.

“What’s amazing is, when something like this happens folks forget all their petty differences , when we’re confronted by the awesome power of nature and reminded that all we have is each other.” President Obama said.

They had the opportunity to speak to survivors of the storm in a school gym later that day, and seemed to give the town a bit of hope and peace while they were there. Prayers go out to everyone involved in this tragedy.

When telling George about meeting the Presidential couple at a correspondent’s dinner, he explained that the sight of Michelle got him *ahem* a little bit too excited. “I looked at Michelle and she said, ‘Hi Tracy’ and I just like, I got hard,” he told Lopez.

Morgan, with his trademark crazy stare, and high-pitched excited tone, then went on to call the her “a beast,” and said; “Michelle looked like a tall mountain and I wanted to climb it just cause it’s there-  just cause it’s there, like Kilimanjaro.”

Then, to carry on with his usual over the top, sexually charged train of thought, he singled out an audience member to impregnate, saying; “I want to get somebody pregnant tonight…I’m going all out tonight, you’re going to get it girl,” while pointing to a woman in the front row.

The audience seemed to love it, and went crazy, but I wonder, do you think the President and First Lady are fair game, or should they be afforded more respect as the leaders of our country?
