We may not have fully forgiven Mary J. Blige for her Crispy Chicken faux pas, but that hasn’t stopped her from singing to her soul’s content. This summer, Mary’s all set to star in a musical that’s said to be one of the hottest movies of the summer–”Rock Of Ages.”

This Adam Shankman adaptation of the popular jukebox musical follows a small-town girl coming to Los Angeles, trying to be a star. Blige gets to star alongside Hollywood heavy hitters like Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Alec Baldwin, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Tom Cruise.

The rock musical hits in theaters on June 15 and you can check out the soundtrack (complete with Mary’s crooning) on June 5th.

Mary wasn’t the only one praised for her vocal abilities yesterday. Marsha Ambrosius performed the coveted song at the Mayweather vs. Cotto fight!

After Mary J. Blige’s Crispy Chicken Scandal, she’s welcoming reality show cameras into her life so that we can see she’s not all about angering black people with her stereotypically offensive commercials. The Queen of Hip Hop Soul is getting her own American Idol-like show, called Opening Act.

American Idol executive, Nigel Lythgoe and Rock Mafia Records founder, Ms. Armato have teamed up to bring E! network a talent show that will follow Blige as she finds talented acts online and give them the opportunity to open up for an act that’s on her level. Blige will surprise the unsuspecting performers and will oversee their progression to the point at which they are ready to open up for the A-List acts like Nicki Minaj–who has already signed up for the show.

Opening Act airs on Jul 9th on E! Will you be watching?

Mary’s chicken commercial has caused tons of controversy but the R&B diva reassures us that she didn’t see the final cut before it went to air.

Mary J Blige has spoken out on the Burger King commercial that portrayed her as a sassy chicken loving diva. “I agreed to be a part of a fun and creative campaign that was supposed to feature a dream sequence,” said Mary to TMZ. “Unfortunately, that’s not what was happening in that clip.” Mary added

The commercial has been pegged as racist and many have called out her manager/husband Kendu, questioning why he would even allow Mary to do such a stereotypical thing such as sing about chicken.

“I understand my fans being upset by what they saw. But, if you’re a Mary fan, you have to know I would never allow an unfinished spot like the one you saw go out.”

Well, well well. It looks like Burger King and the powers that be didn’t pull Mary J. Blige’s chicken coon commercial because of all the complaints and expressions of oppression from the black community. They pulled it because of music licensing. I don’t know how commercials are usually handled, but I’m pretty sure you have to get music licenses before you shoot, edit and premiere.

Burger King hopes to have their ad back up soon, but did not comment on whether the ad would still feature Mary’s soulful croon about crispy chicken. Convenient.

The folks over at Burger King also claim that the campaign also features Selma Hayek, David Beckham, Jay Leno are all slated to promote the chicken wrap as well. Wasn’t it just yesterday that they were all promoting other items from the menu?

“Crispy chicken, fresh lettuce, three cheeses, ranch dressing wrapped up in a tasty, flour tortilla,” Mary J. Blige took it straight to church on us for Burger King’s new chicken warp. Mary J. Blige faced a lot of criticism from the African American community about singing sanging for chicken for Burger King. Even though the commercial debuted on April Fools Day, it was definitely not a joke. Mary J. Blige went back to her “No More Drama” days and laced that chicken song as if it were the last song she’d ever sing.

All the backlash must have made Mary feel like the April fool because Burger King has pulled the ad. So if you missed it–shame on you. Honestly, I’m not offended at all, I think it’s kind of funny, but between Burger King and Mary J. Blige, someone had the ad pulled.

Other celebs were involved in this Burger King campaign, but Mary’s the only one pushing chicken. Selma Hayek’s selling salads, David Beckham’s selling smoothies and Jay Leno showcases the entire menu. I guess it is just a bit racist that the black woman gets the chicken. What’s next? Jennifer Hudson sanging about watermelon?

I am trying to figure out why Mary would agree to do this commercial and here are the reasons I could come up with..

1. Burger King is offering Mary all proceeds from chicken wrap sales.

2. Chicken wraps happen to be Mary’s favorite food of all time and she’d do anything for a chicken wrap, including sang about it.

3. The director told her people would see her funny side and would make people love her more.

4. Burger King is a part of the Illuminati and this is Mary’s initiation.

Mary J. Blige is angry after being snubbed by the Oscars for a “Best Original Song” nomination. MJB co-wrote and sang “Living Proof,” the closing tune to the acclaimed film The Help, but did not receive a nod.

Yesterday, she wrote on Twitter: “Ok Fam let’s all pray. The Oscar Nominations are about to be announced..”The Help” all of the nods in the categories deserved+ Song.”

Though the Oscars usually have five nominees in the category, this year (for some reason) they only selected two, lessening MJB’s chances to win.

Once she found out she didn’t receive any recognition, she seemed somewhat speechless, writing: “I’m so thankful for true fans like you all. It saddens me & feels like the Academy is being mean. To only nominate 2 of the 5 slots is…….”

The two songs that made the cut for a chance to win are “Real In Rio” from the animated film Rio and “Man or Muppet” from the family-friendly film The Muppets.

Wow.

“VH1 Divas” will celebrate soul music with performances from Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson, Jill Scott, Florence + The Machine, Kelly Clarkson and Jessie J. The show will pay tribute to the cities where soul gave birth to music’s most powerful classics and inspired today’s divas. Each singer will pay homage to these cities and soul music’s timeless classics at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom.

Not only will each act perform their own soul-inspired songs, but also some of the greatest classics that have shaped a genre. Their performances will be accompanied by The Roots, who serve as the house band. Their member ?uestlove will pull a double duty as a musical director.

As always, the show will benefit VH1′s “Save The Music Foundation” and its programs to restore music education in public schools.

Mary J. Blige is featured in Elle magazine’s latest issue. Like the true diva that she is, the Queen rocks the season’s most regal furs, from fox to goat. She talks about her on-stage persona and playing Nina Simone on screen.

On performing on stage:
Honey, there are no distractions when you’re onstage, because you are where you live. When I’m on that stage, I’m not worried about my heels, I’m not worried about my hair. My ponytail could fly off and it wouldn’t even matter to me. Because once you make that connection with those people, nothing else matters.

On playing Nina Simone:
I learned that she was a woman on the search for love, as well. You know, looking for love, standing up for her rights, and not being understood. No one could ever belittle her in a conversation. She was not a mess. Spirituality? My God, this woman makes the hair stand up on my legs just talking about her.

On the difference between her iconic 1994 “My Life” album & its upcoming sequel “My Life II… The Journey Continues (Act 1)”
[My Life was recorded at a time] when we didn’t know if we were going to live or die. It spoke from such a place of ‘I need help, we all need help.’ Now we can say we’re beautiful, we’re strong, we’re confident. [But] to sit back and lie and say everything is wonderful in anybody’s life? [laughs] My fans would be like, ‘Come on, man.’
