Yesterday, she wrote on Twitter: “Ok Fam let’s all pray. The Oscar Nominations are about to be announced..”The Help” all of the nods in the categories deserved+ Song.”

Though the Oscars usually have five nominees in the category, this year (for some reason) they only selected two, lessening MJB’s chances to win.

Once she found out she didn’t receive any recognition, she seemed somewhat speechless, writing: “I’m so thankful for true fans like you all. It saddens me & feels like the Academy is being mean. To only nominate 2 of the 5 slots is…….”

The two songs that made the cut for a chance to win are “Real In Rio” from the animated film Rio and “Man or Muppet” from the family-friendly film The Muppets.

Wow.

As a sequel to her 1994 breakthrough record, “My Life,” the new album “adds another level of understanding” to the pain she was going through the first time around, Mary says. And you can expect a Act II “because it’s just too much good music.”

Watch “Brook Lyn” make her cameo at the 2:30 mark on “Enough Cryin” from the Breakthrough era.

We love Mary, but does anybody else think alter egos (Beyonce’s “Sasha Fierce,” Mariah’s “Mimi,” Nicki Minaj’s…everybody) are a little ridiculous? Why not just be one multi-faceted artist?

Mary recently released a single “The Living Proof” for the upcoming big-screen adaptation of best-selling novel The Help, and recently sat down with our friends over at essence.com and dished about what inspired her to write song:

“I wrote the song almost in the theater as I was watching the movie,” MJB told ESSENCE.com during the ESSENCE Music Festival. “Everything that made me cry, I would write it down. Everything that made me laugh, I would write it down. And then I would listen to different things they were saying and I would write it down.”

Blige says she called the song “The Living Proof” in honor of the characters’ resilience and ability to forgive. “Learning how to forgive people that hurt you. That’s the hardest thing to do,” she said. “My song tells the story of how we are all survivors, and how we’re living proof that we can come through whatever.”
