A Bulgarian designer has sued Beyonce over a bootleg version of their bikini that she wore in her “Video Phone” music video. Watch it here! A German judge agreed, ruling that the clip can no longer be distributed in Germany.

In what has to be one of the more bizarre copyright disputes, the underwear manufacturer Triumph sued Sony because Beyoncé was wearing copyright-infringing underwear in her music video “Video Phone.”

The design in question is by Bulgarian designer Iskren Lozanov. The 7th Civil Chamber of the Landgericht Munich upheld an ex parte injunction barring Sony from distributing the “Video Phone” clip in Germany.

Triumph argued Beyoncé was wearing an unauthorized reproduction of the Iskren Lozanov design. Sony countered that both designs were inspired by Picasso, but otherwise, there were few similarities. The judge disagreed, saying the Lozanov design was highly original and enjoyed a wide scope of protection.

Lozanov said: “My collection was based on Picasso’s painting ‘Girl In Front of a Mirror’ and it would be just beyond belief for someone else to have had exactly the same idea and inspiration separately. I tried writing to Sony to ask them to just acknowledge my work and they did not even bother to send me a reply.”

They do look pretty damn similar, Bey. And considering that Iskren’s design was showcased on September 23rd in Milan, which was BEFORE the premiere of the video, Sony has a lot of explaining to do.

Over on Slate, a male reader wrote to Dear Prudence, asking whether it was normal that his girlfriend of six months has been wearing the same bra every day for two weeks. Was she unhygienic, or simply a normal gal? Prudie responded, saying she polled some of the cleanest women she knows and they wash their bras at most once a week.

We did a little research on the topic, and while it’s pretty easy to find information about how you should be washing your bras (preferably by hand in cold water, air-dried), how often isn’t something that has been spelled out or set in stone.

According to a British survey, women wash their bras an average of six times a year. That’s not even once a month.

But a few experts say we should be cleaning them a lot more frequently than we are. Cindy Johnson, co-owner of Sol, a lingerie store in Denver, believes you should have seven bras and wash them all once a week. “If you have seven good bras that you are washing frequently, your bras will last about a year to a year and a half,” she writes. “You want to wash your bra EVERYTIME you wear it. Believe it or not, the more often you wash your bras the longer they will last and keep their shape. You also never want to wear the same bra two days in a row (unless you’ve washed it).”

The people at bra retailer Intimacy recommend you have between seven and 10 bras in your wardrobe, but believe it’s permissible to wear a bra two times between washings, as long as you don’t wear it for consecutive days, “to enable its elastic materials to rest and retain their stretch memory.”

Now that we feel completely inept at caring for our undergarments and should probably buy some new bras immediately so we don’t contaminate something with our grimy garments, we want to know how often you wear and wash your bras.

The price for this collection will vary from $190-$4,900.

Let’s face it – you likely don’t stand over a sink hand-washing your bras that often. For some reason, women just don’t see bras as something you have to wash as often as we wash our other clothes. They are, in that respect, a lot like jeans – the more you wash, the more worn down they get.  However, a new study shows that, on average, women only wash their bras six times a year. SIX?! Okay. I have to draw the line somewhere. Six is just gross. Says Daily Express,

Mothers and grandmothers would be disgusted to learn the current generation of women have picked up such bad washing habits they only put their bras in the washing machine six times a year.

The revolting figures means the average woman wears her bra seven times – equating to roughly two months – before discarding them in the laundry basket.

And according to the survey, women have no excuse for their bad habits as they have a bra for every day of the week – with the average woman owning around 15.

So does that mean bras don’t actually get dirty? Hell no! Not only do they get dirty and gross, just like your other clothes, but you’re also hurting your pockets by not washing your undergarments as often as you should. Says the article,

The survey, which was carried out on 2,025 women, also discovered that the most common stains found on dirty brassieres are stale perfume, body lotion, fake tan and sweat.

Dr Beckmann Stain guru Lesley Naylor said: “The problem is that this lack of washing means that bras look tatty, grey and dirty which obviously doesn’t look good but is also far from advantageous for the life of the bra.

“The extra dirt is clearly not good for the wearer’s skin as bras are fitted snug to the chest and this build up of bacteria can create irritation.”
