Your Goals

Talking about your goals goes beyond your to-do lists. What do you each want to accomplish as individuals? As parents? As professionals? Reconnect on your hopes and dreams for the future and make a plan to work with one another to make them a reality.

Your Childhoods

You know what it was like for your partner growing up (and have laughed at all of his school pictures with bad hair and buck teeth), but there’s always some funny story to tell or even retell from your childhood. You know, like the time you broke your mom’s favorite vase because you were playing ball in the house (oh wait, that was Peter Brady).

(From bettyconfidential.com)

My daughter loves going to the playground. Me, not so much. When I first started taking her there, it felt strangely reminiscent of junior high school. There were plenty of kids running around and, much to my dismay, there also seemed to be plenty of parental cliques clustered around the park. For some reason, the outgoing, self-confident woman that I always considered myself to be was transported back to adolescence when the last thing I wanted to do was walk up and say “Hi” to people I didn’t know.Luckily, I’ve gotten over my reluctance to meet moms this way. As a matter of fact, I’ve struck up some interesting conversations as I’ve stood side by side with moms – and a few dads — while we pushed our children on the swings. I’ve also gotten to know several babysitters, and I’ve made plenty of mental notes on the ones I’d love to report to their charges’ parents if I knew where to find them.

It’s occurred to me that while I’m teaching her how to make her way in the world, her exchanges on the playground are illustrative of pretty much everything you need to know to get through life successfully:

1. Life is made up of all kinds of people. We’re fortunate to live in a diverse community. On any given Saturday morning, my daughter plays with children whose parents speak Japanese, French, Italian, Russian, and, of course, English. She was delighted to tell me recently that she’d met another little girl who was adopted from China “just like me!” The even better news is that she never describes these children as looking or sounding any different from her; she simply calls each one “a new friend.” I’m hoping that continues for the long haul.

VIDEO: Twin boys singing gospel

2. Everybody gets a turn (and the corresponding rule –“No cutting!”) If children who are barely out of training pants generally understand that you have to let the people in front of you on line go before you, how is it that college-educated adults think it’s okay to cut someone off for a parking space or slip in front of someone at Starbucks because they don’t want to miss the 8:02? You know who you are—shame on you!

(BlackDoctor.org) — Having your child ask you over a million questions, during the seemingly worst possible times, may be like “gravy” compared to him or her habitually refusing to go to school. He or she may be worthy of an Oscar for acting as though they’re too sick to attend class, and he or she gives you the same ol’ song and dance when you try to force him or her to go.

It’s also astronomically frustrating when people wrongly accuse you of not being a good parent because you cannot get your child to leave for school. It does not take an Einstein-like mind to realize it’s not always a parent’s fault if his or her child is disobedient or just plain wild.

However, when a child refuses to go to school, and throws a total fit over it, it usually is not because he or she wants to defy you; it’s typically a result of him or her being too petrified and nerve-wracked to be in the classroom. (www.education.com, 2009)

How to care for a newborn

Some children fear going anywhere outside of their home and being away from their family period. Kids might also wish to stay home from school due to overwhelming feelings of worry and anxiety of being bullied or ridiculed. (http://pediatrics.about.com, 2009)

If this is the case, your child may suffer unduly from school refusal, which predominately occurs amongst 5-6 year-olds and in children toward the completion of elementary school. The condition is characterized by a child having repeated outbursts because he or she does not want to go to school due to psychological reasons. (www.education.com, 2009)

Some parents won’t go near a restaurant with their children in tow, for fear of being ostracized. Children of all ages have a right to eat out. The reason it’s hard to eat out with young kids is that they don’t sit still and they don’t like to wait. The eating part isn’t so bad.

Here are some tips on how to eat out with your little ones:

1) Before you go, pack a goodie bag with some things to keep them entertained such as crayons, notebook, favorite books, games, and some quiet toys. If your child is especially energetic and restless always be sure to pack a few new toys to keep them interested.

2) Do your research and make sure that the restaurant you choose welcomes children. Any restaurants with a kids menu will obviously be happy to have them. For example, a kid friendly place or a buffet. One that is casual and loud enough to absorb any noise that your family might make.

Parenting: Punishment vs Incentives

3) Go early and beat the rush. Restaurants are less crowded, it’s easier to get seating, and the service is much better during that time.

4) Practice table manners, politeness and public behavior at home, not just when eating out. This will help your kids be more comfortable when eating out in public settings.

5) Try to order as quickly as possible, and make sure to ask your server for some bread or crackers for your children, while waiting for the meals.

Before you head off to the supermarket to begin the grand performance of holiday entertaining, in the art of ‘Removing Your Cape’ think about a nice relaxing holiday that you can actually enjoy and are not slaving in the kitchen and cleaning up dirty dishes. Now let’s not just think about it, let’s do it!

Begin with planning! First, how many people will be stopping by? Get a head count and give yourself room for a few extra people. Next how will you work out the food? I hardly recommend cooking everything, it is a lot to do and it’s never any fun to be in the kitchen and hear everyone in the next room having a great time. So have everyone chip in. If you are going to cook the Turkey, have everyone bring a side dish. If you are going to make the all of the food, have everyone bring dessert and drinks. Coordinate a list so you have enough sides and main dishes as well as desserts and everyone knows what they are contributing.

How can the kids help? The kids can either help with the cooking the day before (my kids love to measure, pour and stir), and or setting the table for guests on the day of. Another way they can help is by helping you clean out the refrigerator the day before. You want to have room for all of the food you are about to make for this grand feast!

(From shine.com)

Picture this; it may have happened to you. You’re sitting in a restaurant with your new boyfriend, maybe you’ve been dating a few months, but you’re still in that honeymoon stage where everything’s fuzzy and warm and looks like rainbows. You’re staring into his eyes, when your gaze is diverted by the most gorgeous girl you’ve ever seen. Literally, the music stops, heads turn, she glitters. Then her face breaks into a huge grin and suddenly envelopes the newest love of your life in a very friendly hug. It’s his ex. Um…what?! Sometimes, it’s easy to forget your dude has a past…involving other girls. Here is a survival guide of the five exes you should steer clear from if you can…and how to handle them if you can’t.

The one with his kids

As we get older, as weird as it sounds (since I still feel like I’m 13), it becomes more and more possible that the dude you have your eye on has a kid. Although you should also start dating him cautiously (no matter what, there’s a third person involved, and you don’t want to end up being called Mommy when you don’t even know what a Diaper Genie is). With kids, naturally, comes their mom. Not only does this mean your new guy has an intense past, but he also has to talk to and see his ex on a regular basis…forever. There’s no room for you to be the “Jealous Girlfriend” here, because that kid will always come first, meaning the baby momma will always come second. Do the whole messy deal a favor, and don’t try to be BFF with the girl, just respect the boundaries and don’t discourage their relationship if it’s friendly. No need for a Jerry Springer: She’s Messin’ With My Baby Momma Part IV episode.

Watch out for the “hook-up” boys

The one with the stink-eye

This is for the ex who shows up everywhere. He insists that they’re casual friends, but for some reason, she’s strangely at every event, party, and movie you guys attend with the whole “OMG, how are you guys? Soooo weird that you’re here too!” Then she gives you the cold shoulder and spends the whole night refilling his drinks and bringing up past inside jokes. If you can get past the serious annoyance aspect, just give your guy a heads up on what she’s doing, if he doesn’t know already. Then, proceed to be amused by the whole thing. If anything, he will appreciate you acting cool in the midst of his crazy ex, and recognize that you’re “The Cool Girlfriend.”

Two months after tying the knot, Lamar Odom is ready to make his new bride Khloe a mommy.

In the couple’s first televised interview together, Lamar & Khloe visited Chelsea Handler on her late night show, and Odom, 30, said that his bride would be pregnant “soon.”

Chelsea asked the couple if they wanted to start a family right away?

“I do!” Odom said while holding Kardashian’s hand and stroking her thigh.

The “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star, who looked caught off guard, said, “Okay!”

Khloe & Lamar’s wedding

Khloe has already admitted that she has gained weight since tying the knot in September.

Besides a possible pregnancy, they have another project potentially in the works: their own reality show!

“Ryan [Seacrest] has been talking to us about it.,” she says. “I mean, right now, we have so much going on, but we don’t know. We’ve got to get through the holidays, and then we’ll discuss it again after that.”

“I have no comment to make about these tattoos, they are both adults and what they choose to do with their bodies is their business,” Morales said. “But with regard to my children being around Khloe – all I can say is that I have reservations about my children spending time with anyone I don’t know -and I don’t personally know Khloe Kardashaian.”

Morales and Odom have two children together and had been a couple for a decade before they split. They also suffered the loss of an infant son named Jayden who died from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
