Rapper Da Brat got out of jail..okay, it was just a weekend pass.

Unlike some other folks who were  welcomed with dinner parties and shopping sprees, Brat kept her release on the low.

Da Brat is doing time for assaulting a cocktail waitress with a liquor bottle at JD’s now defunct nightclub in Decatur two years ago. She is finishing up a 3-year prison sentence.

Brat spent time on the set of her play-play sister LisaRaye’s new movie, currently lensing in Atlanta. She also found the time to kick it with her boss JD.

In a recent interview with Vibe, producer Jermaine Dupri revealed that he felt a little disrespected after Usher failed to ask him to executive produce his new album:

There was some talk that you were going to executive produce Usher’s latest album Raymond v. Raymond. Why didn’t it happen?

Well, I didn’t really want to be executive producer of Usher’s projects after Confession. Me as a producer, it’s kind of hard for me to go back into people’s projects when I gave you your biggest album ever…you sold more records than any other artist in this decade based on that album and now I have to ask you am I the executive producer of your next album? That seems disrespectful to me.

Obviously, I’m looking at something different than everyone is looking at it whether it’s the label, the artist, management… whoever it is. I’ve had this same conversation with L.A. Reid, because I’m doing Mariah Carey’s album right now. And on her last album, I didn’t have one song on there. But I did Emancipation of Mimi and she sold more records than she sold in the last five years. What part of the game makes y’all not call me? But I’m not going to keep sticking my neck out. But I don’t feel like I’m supposed to ask to produce anymore. People are supposed to come to me and tell me that I’m the executive producer. That’s why I get more kicks working with younger artists.

Back To The Basics: Mariah & JD In The Studio Together!

Mariah Carey isn’t going to let the low sales of her ‘Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel’ slow her down. The icon has actually returned to the studio. However, this time Carey has put her ‘Memoirs…’ collaborators, The-Dream and Tricky Stewart, on pause and reunited with her long-time friend, songwriter/producer Jermaine Dupri. The duo, who created many of Carey’s biggest hits including Billboard’s ‘Song of the Decade’, ‘We Belong Together’, tweeted from the studio.

In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, the 43-year-old Janet Jackson disputed reports made by ex-boyfriend, music producer Jermaine Dupri, who claimed he was working on an album with her:

Janet Jackson has two tracks in rotation—“Nothing” and her Pitbull collab “Heartbeat Love”—but she told Rolling Stone that she’s not working on the follow-up to 2008’s commercially disappointing Discipline, nor has she signed a new deal after parting ways with IDJ. “There was a time where I was actually in the studio and I was recording, but I’m not working on an album,” she says. “There have been a lot of record labels that have asked me to sit down and talk with them, but I don’t know if I want to do something completely independent, or go with a major… I haven’t decided on exactly where I want to go or what I want to do.” “Nothing” is a one-off she co-wrote and co-produced with boyfriend Jermaine Dupri for the new Tyler Perry film “Why Did I Get Married, Too?” As for the second song, Jackson said she did it as a favor for Rodney Jerkins, for “fun.” READ MORE HERE!

The super-successful producers who are both probably best known for their work with Mariah Carey, took to Twitter to vent their frustrations surrounding the success (or lack their of) of Carey’s ‘Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel’ LP. The argument began on Dupri’s Twitter page with the following post:

The-Dream, who was engaged in a heated argument with a group of Carey’s fans, then released the following statements about the situation via his own Twitter account:

Jermaine Durpi cannot stand seeing DaBrat in jail

Jermaine Dupri is tired of folks questioning why he never visits DaBrat in jail. The producer says he just can’t physically bear to see his girl in jail.

Jermaine spoke to Ryan Cameron about Da Brat’s incarceration and explains why he won’t visit her. Brat’s currently serving three years in jail for assaulting a woman in a nightclub two years ago.

Meet So So Def’s newest diva Dondria!

Three years ago, a then-2o-year-old Dondria began uploading videos to YouTube. They were of her singing solo renditions of R&B tracks originally done by everybody from Musiq Soulchild and Keri Hilson to Beyonce and Chrisette Michele. Her fans and followers (now at 2.8 million) requested, rated, and raved about her voice and talent so much so that the young singer from Texas caught the eye of Jermaine Dupri. However, she’d been going under the alias of “Phatfffat,” a nickname given to her by her college roommate. Luckily, for her and her future success, she and JD decided to retreat back to her real name – after all we can’t see “Phatfffat” in big lights above a stage.

Now, 23, Dondria has become the newest member to sign on to the So So Def roster. JD says, “Dondria is like a young Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey or Alicia Keys. There is nothing that the girl can’t sing.” We’ll have to wait until next year for her official debut album, but she’s given us an amazing mixtape, entitled “Duets,” to hold us over until then. On it, she delivers her very own versions (from the female perspective, of course) of Maxwell’s “Pretty Wings,” Robin Thicke’s “Sex Therapy,” Trey Songz’ “Invented Sex,” and more! Hear it here!

HB: What made you decide to put yourself out there and upload YouTube videos for all the public to see?
Dondria: I wanted to see how people who didn’t know me, people who weren’t my family and friends, what their honest opinion was. I knew they weren’t gonna be biased. I’d been singing since I was three, I grew up in church and I’ve always been in the youth choir, so I don’t think I’ve ever had a problem with the camera. I thought people would like it, but I just didn’t know it was gonna get that big, I’m still speechless when I think about it.

How did JD get in contact with you?
He told me that he hit me up on YouTube but I never got that message. The first one I was aware of was when he wrote me on MySpace, but I didn’t think it was him. I was getting so many emails, messages, requests to work and sign, but most of it was bogus, so by the time he came around, I was like, “This is not real, don’t lie to me.” But he was really persistent. All he said was he wanted to do a video of me and Jagged Edge and that he’d fly me and my mom out to Atlanta. It was actually the night of their listening party. So, I met him in person and that’s when he actually said, “I wanna work with you, are you ready for this, is this something that you wanna do?” And I was like, “Oh, ok, cuz I just thought u called me to do a YouTube video and my feelings were so hurt!”

Who would be your dream artist to work with?
I would love to open up for Beyonce, I am so jealous of [the group] Rich Girl, I would love to open up for her. Even Janet. I would love to open Monica, too.

What is ‘Phatfffat’?
My college roommate actually gave me that nickname. We had just met at orientation and we clicked immediately. Later that night, we went to CiCi’s Pizza and I just do what I do, I wasn’t thinking (laughs). I always get my salad, my pasta, and then I pile a plate with pizza; it’s a buffet! And as I finished it all, she was like “You know what? I’m gonna call you ‘Phatfffat’ because that’s out of control.” But I feel like if I was a rapper, then I could have been like, “Phatfffat in the building!!!,” but I’m not gonna be an R&B artist (and hopefully successful) and then be announced as “Phatfffat” to come on stage and accept something.

We’ve seen plenty of artists debut with one image, and in a years time, drastically change. How do you plan on dealing with that?
I think the beauty of me signing with JD is I don’t think I’ll have that problem. I understand that I will have to grow up but I feel like he understands that growing up doesn’t necessarily mean growing naked. I can mature in a different way. All the greats didn’t have to do that extra stuff, like Brandy, Monica, Whitney, Aretha – none of them, so I don’t feel like I need to. But also, I’m gonna be 23, and I think at 25 or 30, I’ll still look 18. When I did the mixtape, I did the Top 10 male R&B songs. And 7 or 8 of those were talking about sex and everybody was like, “We can’t believe your singing this!,” cuz they think I’m, like, 16!

Let’s not talk about where you wanna see yourself in 10 years, what do you want to achieve in the near future?
I would like pee my pants if I got Best New Artist of the year, I would pee my pants. That’s what I want so bad, cuz then that means that I gave my best first impression. That would be really really big. The thing that I’m looking most forward to is honestly doing the big tour, the whole big show, a 2 hour show, fans screaming “Dondria!,” that’s the part that I can’t wait for.

We recently told you about a  reconciliation between Janet Jackson and Jermaine Dupri, but Janet put that to rest when talking about her “ex” on the radio.

According to US magazine, while answering a question about Jermaine during a radio interview in Atlanta, Janet told the host :”I’m not the type of girl that stays in touch with your ex like that.”

DAMN!!!!

Dupri, however, seems to be an exception. “Jermaine is one of my best friends,” she said in a sleepy voice. “I love him to death. We’re still connected. We’re still good friends. We still talk.”

“We’re there for one another,” Jackson said of Dupri. “I think it will remain that way for the rest of my life.”

According to the New York Daily News:

“[They] never fell out of love,” a pal says of the couple, who had called it quits last summer. “Now they’re hoping to get married early next year, and they’re rushing it because after Michael’s death, the family needs something to smile about.”

The couple split in September, but were spotted together when they attended the presentation of Vicini Spring/Summer Collection in Milan, followed up by Donatella Versace’s afterparty.

Another one bites the dust: It looks like Janet Jackson and Jermaine Dupri have finally decided to call it quits.

According to Starpulse,

The National Enquirer claims Jackson and Dupri began battling over the failure of her recent tour, which he managed, and which ended with a string of canceled concerts because of illness and reports of poor ticket sales.

And sources tell the tabloid the 36-year-old has moved out of the superstar’s Los Angeles home, and they have agreed to spend time apart. The insider says, “Janet and Jermaine finally hit a wall. They were fighting over his management of her career. In the end, she decided to make a break.”

Representatives for the two have yet to comment on the reports.

Do you believe these rumors? They were just talking recently about getting married and starting a family! Perhaps Jermaine, who was her manager before her boyfriend, decided to put business before pleasure…

This week’s issue of Life & Style magazine is confirming that Janet and JD are indeed preggers. After all the going back and forth, can we just say, who cares?
