Lauryn Hill is set to return to the stage next month for the Rock The Bells tour, but in a rare interview with National Public Radio, she speaks about why she left music in the first place.

“There were a number of different reasons,” she says. “But partly, the support system that I needed was not necessarily in place. There were things about myself, personal-growth things, that I had to go through in order to feel like it was worth it. Oftentimes, I think people are forced to make decisions prematurely. And then that sound radiates.”

“I’m trying to open up my range and really sing more,” she says. “With The Fugees initially, and even with “Miseducation,” it was very hip-hop — always a singing over beats. I don’t think people have really heard me sing out. So if I do record again, perhaps it will have an expanded context. Where people can hear a bit more.”

“I don’t know if you know this, but I have five children,” she says. “The youngest is 2 now, so she’s old enough that I can leave her for a period of time and know she’s going to be okay. That’s one reason. And I think it’s just time. I’m starting to get excited again. Believe it or not, I think what people are attracted to about me, if anything, is my passion. People got exposed to my passion through music and song first. I think people might realize, you know, ‘We love the way she sounds, we love the music, but I think we just love how fearless she is. How boundless she is, when it comes to what she wants to do.’ And I think that can be infectious.”

On her creative experience:

“When I create music, I think the feeling you get, I get first….when I first have a creative insight, not just the voice but the creativity, the production, the idea, the concept, the music involved, there is a high, there is an emotional experience for sure. I think I made music, especially back in the day, as consistently as I did because it made me feel so good. A few days ago I posted Part 1 of an interview that “Basketball Wives” Jennifer and Evelyn did with necolebitchie.com..today I bring you the follow up.  The wives discuss Matt Barnes, Groupies and Evelyn’s nude pic scandal. 

They also shared their views on Kobe’s wife Vanessa Bryant, the miami groupie “Plastic Surgery” and whether they would be willing to participate in another season.

Necole Bitchie: Gloria’s fiancé Matt came out and said he was disgusted with the show… how did that make you feel when you heard that he was dogging the show out?

Evelyn: That really bothered me! And I know that everyone put so much into taping this show and at some point, we were saying “Is Gloria even on this show still?”. Because the level of ripping and running that we were doing for the show was crazy! I wouldn’t even see my daughter for eight weeks and for him to totally just sh*t on it like that was very disappointing. My thing is, don’t act like you’re just perfect and you don’t do anything! Especially, when we know somebody first hand that you messed with. And that’s one of the things that drove us crazy through taping, because we had an interview one time with VH1 and she was like “I’ve never had to deal with groupies, I have no idea what that is like” and I’m sitting there like “stop trying to make it seem like we’re the only ones that got played here or are getting played” because I really think that she knows the real and she’s just not saying it. And my thing is when you sign on to do a show be real about it, ‘cause people will read through your bullsh*t! And that was what was frustrating,

Jennifer: I was like Oh really, I was pretty surprised. I didn’t know what he hated about it. I know that we said couple of things like “We know that he’s cheating”… but whatever..

Sunni (NecoleBitchie.com): With the show out now, some jump-offs are going to try to get their 15 minutes of fame and come out… so maybe he got nervous about that. From what you have been through, you know that a lot of them cheat, so for him to sit there and pretend that he is this perfect guy and say he doesn’t cheat, it’s hard to take him seriously.

Evelyn: He is an amazing dad, very into the kids, changing diapers, I will never take that away from him. And if it can work for them, Its great! I would want, more than anything for their family to work! Nobody wants to see a family break up, but my thing is stop frontin’ like you guys are the Huxtables because there is stuff that did go on. That was the frustrating thing for me. And people say that we’re hating… I’m not hating! I want her marriage to work, I think she’s getting married this month. She has two beautiful children with this man. That would be a great story but I felt like she was knocking us down cause our boyfriends and husbands cheated on us, and she was like “Well I never had to deal with that”. I’m like “Really???” Please!

Chris Brown was supposed to go on Q94 in Richmond to promote his benefit concert for Haiti, but stormed out in a huff before the interview even started:

So Chris is sitting in the studio with the DJ and right before they’re supposed to go on-air to talk about the benefit Chris asks, “How come y’all don’t play my shit?” <–direct quote. To which the DJ answers, “Because you don’t have any hits right now.” You could tell Chris was shocked. He starting talking about his new song, ‘I Love You’ with Ester Dean but the DJ told him the song wasn’t impacting on the charts [burn]. Chris sputtered a few unintelligible curse words before asking out loud, “Why am I even doing this interview? F**k this” and leaves. So much for promoting that Haiti benefit.

On having four baby mamas, two who were pregnant at the same time

I know you’re generally not too concerned about the critics, but you did get a lot of flak for the four baby mamas.

I don’t think what people think should be any concern of anybody’s. It’s definitely not a concern of mine. I’d be crazy if it was and you’re crazy if you are.

I think people translate “he has four baby mamas” as “he disrespects women.”

But that goes back to me not caring about what people think or say. They wanna be [baby mama] number five, six, and seven, so…

Did you go through a phase where you were, um… wanting to spread your seed? Or was it just the way things happened?

You’d have to be a woman that’s with me to know what phase I was going through. If I was to answer that question for you or for the world or for this magazine, then I’d be the dumbest ni**a on the planet.

“He really hasn’t been interested in working with me, so I can’t speak on the present,” Ginuwine tells VIBE of Timbaland. “But back in the days, it spoke for itself as far as him being the most sought after producer. Music was boring until he came out with that new sound. Back then, I would have described it as futuristic because it was something that had not been done and people jumped on it. If it wasn’t for him making that style as hot as it is, a lot of producers that’s out now maybe wouldn’t even be here.”

The singer adds that he’s still upset at Timbaland for not supporting him promotionally on his 2009 project, A Man’s Thoughts, despite producing a song for the album.

“Me and Tim were real close at one point. A lot of the times that I reached out, there were a bunch of excuses,” explains Ginuwine. “I begged and pleaded with him because I felt a certain way but I was like, is it just a bad vibe that I’m picking up on? Maybe I’m bugging out, I don’t know. But it came out to be true and I still feel like he owes me an apology for that. The reason I’m pissed off at him now is because of what he did. I would’ve been cool and not bothered him if he would’ve said, ‘Nah, I’m too busy,’ or gave me the lame excuse like he’s been giving me. But don’t do it and then not do what you’re supposed to do [to promote the song].”

While some have labeled Timbo a sell-out because of his recent work with pop stars like Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado, Ginuwine disagrees.

“I don’t know about the sold out thing. I think any smart businessman would go where the money is bigger, but I also feel like you don’t forget your roots either,” says Ginuwine. “You don’t alienate the people that helped you and started you out… What is it about me now that you just don’t like? And if it is something, say it. I can take truth. I can’t take that kind of stuff and right now I don’t really like him. I really don’t. That’s not being a man.”

Every year the critics are ready to proclaim the death of soul music, moaning to one another about the days when Curtis Mayfield and Barry White once walked the earth like musical giants. Sometimes they sleep when something fresh does come along, but Raheem DeVaughn was determined from the beginning to be the best.

Introduced to a wider audience in 2005 with the release of his debut disc “The Love Experience,” DeVaughn strived to create the perfect hybrid of old school grooves and new school attitude. The album spawned the hit single, “You.” His sophomore effort, “Love Behind The Melody,” featured “Woman,” and with that record he hoped to rid himself of his “underdog” title.

Now, with the release of his third studio album, a two-disc set, we think it’s safe to say he’s achieved his goal.

Tell us about your latest single, “I Don’t Care.”
The label had to pull my teeth to record that. I said, “I’ll meet you halfway, ya’ll dont ask me much, ya’ll usually let me be the mad scientist.” This record fell in my lap so, I thought, maybe it’s a gift from the creators. As I started recording, I was like, “Hey, this isn’t so bad. I like this. Ohhh! This is hot!” It’s the only record that I didn’t write on the album, but it’s in great company. Ne-yo wrote it. So, from one songwriter to another, I think he’s dope, and I hope I get to return the favor.

Describe the new album.
It’s a double album called the “Love and War MasterPeace” – it’s half socially-conscious, half love. Some of the socially-conscious ones are “Bulletproof,” and “Revelations 2010″ with Damien Marley. I wanted to take the opportunity to work with people that I look up to or am genuinely fans of. And I’ve been working on this album since the last one, so it’s not just that I have a lot to say, but I think there’s a lot that needs to be heard.

“Nobody Wins The War” is such a standout track. It features Jill Scott, Bilal, Anthony Hamilton, Algebra, Chrisette Michele, Shelby Johnson, Ledisi, Citizen Cope, Dwele, Chico DeBarge And Rudy Currence. How did it come about?
I tracked them down. Last tour Jill did, she took me out with her. Last tour I headlined, I took Christette out. Anthony, Bilal and Shelby all used to sing background for D’Angelo. Dwele and I have been friends for years. And I also have some artists that don’t necessarily get the shine they deserve.

Did you feel that taking a stand on the war would alienate some of your fans?
No. At the end of the day, I’m making a true statement. Nobody wins the war. Who really wins? I’m not picking a side, a country, a religion, I’m saying there always could be a solution if people are willing to compromise. A life is gonna be lost, blood is gonna be on somebody’s hands, but it’s a catch-22 because if somebody comes kicking your door in and invades your home, you might have to put them on their head. In that case, the violence is necessary.

What’s your first musical memory?
Being at Greenhill Daycare in Maryland at the graduation, directing the choir. I was the conductor, the musical leader.

What’s your favorite love song? (And you can’t choose your own)
Let’s go with Marvin Gaye’s “I Want You.”

What do you look for in a woman?
I look for confidence, spirituality, independence, adventure, spontaneity…

Do you have a celebrity crush?
I got a couple! You know who’s a sweetheart? I got a crush on Erykah Badu, but don’t tell anybody. And I think Miss Keri is cute. And I wasn’t prepared for Alicia Keys at the Apollo or the energy and the chemistry we had, but I’ll be prepared next time though. She kinda caught me off my square.

Tell us something we don’t know.
I love kids. I have two sons, 2 and 4. If I could, in a perfect world, I’d have a tribe, but at this point, I cant keep having like a bunch of baby mamas [laughs]. My mom ain’t having that, that just don’t sit well with her, so I gotta find a woman that can tolerate me and have a gang of babies.

How do you maintain a relationship with your young children while working?
I don’t always get the time that I want with them and I’m sacrificing a lot to make sure things are secure in their future. Their mothers are very overly supportive and understanding. I couldn’t be blessed with a better situation. They’re mature and don’t add to the stress. I hope this leads as an example to cats: Don’t buy into the hype of the baby mama/daddy drama. Don’t perpetuate it and buy into the propaganda. It’s bulls***. Don’t let no judge decide your fate, because once you in that system, you in that system. Granted, if you’re not handling your responsibilities, man up.

We recently posted a translated Beyonce interview from the German magazine Neon, where the singer spoke about having a “marriage contract” aka pre-nup. Today, the magazine issued a retraction of the interview as well as an apology.

The magazine admitted they ran the interview in the form everyone saw (and it was translated correctly to English), they claim that they faulted in verifying the freelance writer’s info. Beyonce’s reps at Sony Music sent us a copy of the apology.
