Taboo kept the current futuristic theme of the BEP’s and wore an all white outfit from head to toe, literally. From his sunglasses to his shoes, white! He was nice enough to snap a few pictures with fans on the way to their performance.

Jazmine, whose sophomore album Love Me Back was released earlier this week, received the “Rising Star” Award following last year’s honoree Lady Gaga.

She told Billboard.com, “I admire Lady Gaga, so to be honored in a category that she was once in is such a rewarding feeling. When I heard the news, I was so happy. I feel honored to be chosen as this year’s Rising Star.”

Fergie was also on hand as she was presented with Billboard’s “Woman of the Year” Award.

A blogger at Clutch Magazine wonders why white artists get to profit from typically black modes of fashion but not get labeled “ghetto” whereas black artists have to play it safe because they risk alienating mainstream buyers if they’re too ethnic.

“…When I think of artists who compromise their own heritage for the sake of seeming relevant to a Euro-centric audience, I can’t help but think of female artists in the Black entertainment industry.

Within the Black community, there are perceptions of physical beauty that sometimes vary from the norm; these perceptions are heavily skewed by European standards. History shows the damaging effects that America’s racial climate had and still has on minority women and their self-image/self esteem.

But what happens when someone from outside the racial group is able to profit from abandoned modes of self-beautification?

Fergie being the only female member of the Black Eyed Peas allows her to stand out easily. With her gaudy jewelry, towering hairstyles, and clawing nails, she is hard to ignore. Though these qualities might seem reminiscent of outdated ‘ghetto’ styles that have been deemed tawdry, Fergie manages to make it commercially appealing.

I find it ironic that Black female artists are on the endless pursuit of class and that which will not offend. Fergie’s Black counterparts would never be able to compete in the mainstream market with her image. In music videos and in album books, she can be an urban queen with no reservations, but on the red carpet and in interviews she adheres to the standards of being a lady. READ THE WHOLE ARTICLE HERE.

Fergie recently sat down with The Advocate, the US-based national gay and lesbian news magazine, and while speaking on her fans, she had some choice words to say about Kanye West’s influence on hip-hop.

When did you first feel love from the gay audience?
Well, come on, I toured with Cher and Cyndi Lauper in 1999 when I was in Wild Orchid. I love my gays so much, but I don’t think a lot of people know that, which bothers me sometimes. People don’t associate the Black Eyed Peas with the gay market, but our new record is a huge dance record, so people are starting to catch on. I want more gay love!

Gays don’t always know where they stand with straight guys in hip-hop. Do the other three Peas appreciate their gay fans?
They’re completely gay-friendly. Are you kidding me? Look at how they dress! [Laughs] Kanye West really did a great thing for hip-hop and made it very mixed and open.

GLAM OR GROSS: Fergie Gets Trashy

Perez Hilton is one gay will.i.am isn’t so friendly with. How did it feel being linked to their altercation at June’s MuchMusic Video Awards?
Honestly, to be real with you, there’s a court case going on, so I’m really not allowed to speak about it.

OK, but what surprised me most about the incident was that it escalated after you confronted Perez about his negative coverage of you and your music on his blog. I was surprised you’d even care about one queen’s opinion.
Yeah, I did. Because when I see somebody I thought was my friend or starting to be my friend… [Sighs] When someone talks out of both sides of their mouth, it just makes me question their integrity.

It’s Music Monday…

As you may have already heard, gossip blogger Perez Hilton is accusing Will.I.Am, talented frontman of The Black Eyed Peas, and his manager Polo of assaulting him in Toronto during the Much Music Awards. Apparently Perez has repeatedly called Fergie “fugly” and hated the recent Peas album, much to the annoyance of the Peas. Their manager has already turned himself in to the cops for the assault but there are dueling videos out as to what exactly happened. Here is the info in their own words.

What – like it doesn’t look like Fergie‘s wearing a giant trash bag with suede boots.

Listen. We all know she doesn’t have the most impeccable taste. She’s always almost-there, then she throws her outfit off with something arguably ridiculous. I think I’d feel differently about this dress if she’d gone completely leggy and paired it with a pair of hot pumps, versus those suede boots, which confuse me more than anything.

Like you know when you’re sleeping over someone’s house, and you bring the outfits you planned, then realize you forgot a pair of shoes that go with a particular ensemble, so you pick an alternative pair that don’t look that great, but “I guess they’ll do…”? Yea….

Well, according to recent photos, he’s still fine. The actor was spotted at a couple nightclubs with Fergie and a few other celebs to ring in the new year, and we’ve missed his absence.
