While the storyline of the 10-minute video for Lady Gaga & Beyonce’s “Telephone” is certainly compelling and creative, it’s the ladies getups we’re obsessed with. And since both artists are undeniably fashion icons, we don’t doubt that this video will make waves in the industry, both as inspiration and confirmation of trends already here and to come.

Here are the top 5 trends spotted in the video by Stylelite:

NEW VIDEO: Lady Gaga Ft. Beyonce – “Telephone”

1. Geometric Cat-Eye Sunglasses

Already seen on the runways of Alexander Wang, Lady Gaga’s razorblade version of the geometric cat-eye is, for lack of a better and/or more appropriate word, fierce.

2. Ombre (a.k.a two-tone) Hair

Inspired, no doubt, by Dazed and Confused editrice Kate Shillingford’s icy hues, Gaga brought back her Grammy-worn, ombre yellow hair — and to wonderful effect.

3. Statement Hats

Gaga has been at this for a while and she’s showing no signs of giving up: the woman is determined to bring back the statement hat. While her’s typically involve astronomical constellations and/or entire telephones, we’re sure this is easily translatable into something slightly more interesting than the fedora.

4. Less Skin
While this concept may at first seem contradictory to, well, the entire video, we don’t doubt that these burka-inspired costumes were a very deliberate decision. Yes, Gaga is somewhere between three-quarters and half-naked for the majority of the video, but she and Beyonce choose to cover-up at a key point in the narrative arc. Anyway, at the close of the FW 2010 shows, the undeniable takeaway was that hemlines are coming down and fashion is moving in a more demure direction. Gaga agrees.

5. Food

From the moment Beyonce ferociously shoves a honeybun in Gaga’s open mouth, to the poisoned albeit heavily mayonnaised sandwiches, these ladies know how to eat. And considering Marc Jacobs’ effort to cast a wide range of ages and sizes in his FW2010 show for Louis Vuitton, “plus-size” model Crystal Renn’s meteoric and no doubt satisfying rise to the top, and, of course, V magazine’s size issue, it’s easy to admit that Gaga and Beyonce are right on trend.

Italian Vogue Launches Web Pages For Black & Curvy Women

Drama in my life is forbidden, but drama on my lips is a must! The quickest way to inject a little color into your life without having to do a complete wardrobe overhaul is with a tube of red lipstick. You need to remember that one red does not fit all so finding the proper shade of red for your hue is imperative. And when you do, you won’t know how to handle all of the compliments that’ll be thrown your way. It’s happened to me and I have no doubt it’ll happen to you.

During a MAC store visit last year, I stumbled upon MAC Cosmetics Ruby Woo Lipstick (maccosmetics.com, $14) and MAC’s Lip Pencil in Cherry (maccosmetics.com, $13). I loved this product from the outset. It’s perfect for those days when a clear gloss just isn’t enough to wow the masses. Incidentally, these are also the same products that were used on the models in Donna Karan’s fashion show held in New York City recently.

Based on your skin tone, the perfect red lip color is within reach. If you don’t know what your skin tone is, then see my entry, Fall In Love With A Sultry, Smokey Gaze for a quick lesson.

Fair & Beige: Stick with reds that have a blue or brown undertone. Talk about high-impact beauty!

Bronze & Golden: If you’re complexion is similar to this model’s, then you should look for deep reds that have a brown base. The more intense the color the better.

Deep: If you’re in this category, stick with pinky reds. They have a greater impact against your skin tone.

To offset Tracy Reese’s flirty and feminine designs on the catwalk in New York City not too long ago, her models wore a smouldering, sultry eye (designed by Maybelline New York Global Makeup Artist Charlotte Willer) that was just absolutely captivating and provided just the right amount of edge with the use of heavy eyeliner.

Seeing this makeup look reminded me of the number one question that I get asked, ”how do I keep my eyeliner from smudging?” To get an eyeliner that remains undisturbed for a better part of the day or night, I’d use Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Liner in Black ($9.99, ulta.com). The benefit of using a gel liner is that the color doesn’t wipe away as quickly as standard pencil eyeliners do and you still get the same definition. The key here is staying power.

Tip: Gel liners tend to dry out, so make sure to keep the lid closed when not in use.

With such a dramatic eye, it’s best to tone the rest of your look down with a natural lip like Maybelline Color Sensational Lipcolor in Totally Toffee. Anything other than a subtle lipcolor for this look is a huge mistake.

The Black Panther Party was a force to be reckoned with during an era in American history where African-Americans fought to prevent their own subjugation.

During the 1960s and 1970s the Black Panther Party functioned as an organized front, ready and willing to militantly combat violence against black people. Their contributions to the development of a more liberated environment for African-Americans within a racist American society is immeasurable. Their importance to the process of building the societal structure that we now know is undeniable. As we celebrate another Black History Month, Hello Beautiful honors the influence that the Black Panther party has had in the Civil Rights historical canon.

How To Recreate Coretta Scott King’s Classic Look

As we remember their historical importance, and look back upon the Panther experience, we especially honor the strong, bold, powerful image of the Panther woman. The women of the organization were in many ways the coal that kept the engine running. They served an imperative purpose, and helped to propel the Panther message, but they always did so with style. The Panther women’s distinctive style holds its own place in our memories.

In honor of the characteristic urban military look that the Blck Panthers are not famous for, we’re giving you a look back at some vintage panther photos.

If you are interested in recreating the Panther look, we’ve got you covered! Take a look at some of our Panther inspired looks with a modern twist. Check out the originators of “All Black Everything” in our gallery, and dont forget to equip your self with a good pair of these:

Thanks to Maya on the show Girlfriends, ” Hell-To-The-Yeah” you can catch a guy with these eyes! The reality is that many men hate that women wear makeup because they say it hides their true beauty. If you wear makeup like a clown, then yes, the men have a point.

To get around this issue, the trick is to wear neutral colors like what was seen on the runways at last week’s fashion week. You win either way because you get to feel like a beautiful lady and your guy (or gal) can kiss you without a ton of color rubbin’ off on their collar. So ladies come on and turn on that prospective lover/BF with a wash of warm, neutral eyeshadows.

The look at Michael Angel’s presentation at last week’s during Fashion Week 2010 in New York City was described by Maybelline Global Makeup Arist Charlotte Willer as bold green and blue eye looks. I actually thought the colors appeared to be more neutral which gave the ladies a chic appeal. Whatever Charlotte was going for worked and the product she used to achieve the look was Maybelline Eye Studio Color Plush Silk Eyeshadow Quad in Green with Envy ($9.99, ulta.com). The green shadow used on the bottom lid added a bit of “whimsy” to the look, said Charlotte.

Jason Wu’s catwalk was filled with models wearing metallic eyeshadows. This is an easy look to pull of because all you do is apply a MAC Cosmetics pigment of your choice MAC Crush Metal Pigment ($32.50, nordstrom.com) from the lash line to the brow bone. Four colors to choose from! Just like the models seen on the runway, these metallics are ultra wearable and really pretty for the everyday diva.

Recently Alexander McQueen, one of the fashion industry’s top high fashion designers, passed away. His name, however, continues to live on through his clothes with the help of industry heavy-weights like Naomi Campbell.

We already reported that the supermodel was honored with an ELLE Style Outstanding Contribution Award for her work in modeling and philanthropy. In her acceptance speech she paid tribute to late British designer Alexander McQueen. Still, Naomi’s tribute goes far beyond that. According to Elle,

The supermodel has been paying tribute in more than words, and probably more fittingly, by wearing the designer almost non-stop since he died. Naomi was snapped coming out the the New York Alexander McQueen store the day after Alexander ‘Lee’ McQueen died, and has donned the designers spring summer collection at most fashion events since.

New York’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week just wrapped up last week and Hello Beautiful was in attendance, bringing you fashion coverage straight from the source!

We hit up the iconic Bryant Park Tents to take in one of the most spectacular shows of the week, Isaac Mizrahi.

Of course, the wealth of the fashion week experience lies largely in the smaller details, so here is my fashion week diary, filled with all of the amazingly glamorous details.

9:00 AM

Entering the tents is nothing short of a red carpet experience tailor made for the die-hard fashionista. There are paparazzi and street photographers lining the steps of the entrance tent. As I enter, random people snap pictures of my outfit, and shoes; ladies, i loved it!

9:30 AM

I brave an impressive line manned by an uber-chic PR team, and make my way to the Mizrahi tent.

9:45 AM

I am seated in the third row (which-fyi-puts me shoulder to shoulder with major players in the fashion game). I see Russel Simmons and supermodel Veronica Webb seated directly across from me. And, oh my, was that Countess D Lessepes from our favorite guilty pleasure “The Real Housewives Of NY”? I even see Yaya from ANTM, remember her?!

10:00 AM

Just as I find myself fed up with people-watching, the lights dim…yes!

Mizrahi sent about 45 glamorous looks down the runway. The collection is a winter wonderland theme; luxe furs, colorful wools and heavy prints march by me. I am totally engaged with this line. It has a pretty, real-woman sensibility, though it is fabulously fashion forward in its execution. Elegant ball gowns float by, topped with full fox-trimmed hoods…perfection! Thick wool blazers balance short feminine dresses, and we are inundated with color which is so often omitted in fall collections. Mizrahi has managed to crank out another winter-wonderful collection that maintains his trademark understanding of what real women can, and want to wear.

Snow comes falling freely from the ceiling (covering the usually stoic and unnaturally chic front-row Vogue editors-Ha!) emphasizing the theme and ending the show with a bang. The models take their final walk, giving us one final view of the amazing Mizrahi looks and then the designer himself prances down the length of the runway. A job well done.

10:40 AM

I exit the Mizrahi tent on a natural high, anxious to see the Fall 2010 collection hit stores.

In desperate need of a break from the high-energy, high-fashion Bryant park scene, I dip into the Frappucino Lounge.

I am greeted with an organically tranquil ambiance, and have a seat to mix and mingle with the other fashion week glamazons seeking refuge at the Starbucks lounge. I become acquainted with a brand new flavor of Strabucks’ bottled Frappucino, and it is decidedly a relationship that I want to continue! The Vanilla Light Frappucino combines the best of both worlds. The traditional taste of Starbucks’ rich coffee, but with 50% fewer calories and 60% less sugar than the classic Vanilla.

As my fashion week experience comes to an end, I have a new collection and a new drink to look forward to! Until next time fashionistas!

Check out some looks from the Mizrahi Fall 2010 collection below:

Thank you to the team at Starbucks for providing me with tickets to the show and some Frappuccino Light!

HAIR BY SAM BROCATO SALON

Tons of hair and makeup looks were seen on the catwalk at last week’s Fall 2010 Fashion Week in New York City. To get this 70’s-Inspired Ponytail Twist from the NIMA presentation (Hair by Sam Brocato Salon) just follow these steps:

As described by Sam: THAT 70’s SHOW. Take Lauren Hutton’s hair from the 70s, mix it with Blake Liveley’s waves of today, and you get the inspiration behind the hairstyles at the NIMA Fall 2010 Fashion Week Presentation. “We tried to create a look that was very modern and Soho chic, yet still had a 70’s feel to it,” says Sam Brocato.

Sam and Matthew Fugate from the Sam Brocato Salon give step-by-step tips on how to achieve this trendy style at home.

STEP 1: GETTING READY FOR PRIME TIME

“I prepped hair with Brocato Back to the Beach Spray to give it volume,” says Sam. After spritzing the models’ hair with the spray, Sam used a blow dryer to set the wavy look.

Matthew Fugate used dry shampoo to add texture to the models’ hair. “I wanted to dirty it up and give it that ‘I just got out of bed look’,” says Matthew.

Note: [I] found a great dry shampoo called Black Hair Powder ($35, bumbleandbumble.com) that gives you the texture descibed here. Itf you’re wondering if it works on coarse hair, it does. The ideal use of this product is on oily and less than clean hair. Just be careful to protect your clothing before application because it may leave spots behind. But no worries because spots can easily be removed with soap and water.

STEP 2: ON THE SIDE

“Nima’s collection had strong design elements on the right shoulder and we decided that a low ponytail that fell on the left side was a perfect complement to the clothes, “ says Sam.

“Using a large barrel curling iron, I took different strands of the hair and curled it to give it more volume and texture, “explains Matthew. “I created a deep side part and used a clear elastic to secure the low ponytail.”

To give the ponytail added chic factor, the stylists used strands of the models hair and wrapped it around the elastic.

Tip: Avoid tugging your hair strands by using elastics that glide on and off easily. A good choice are Sephora Collection Snag-Free Hair Elastics ($3.50 each, 3 colors, sephora.com).

STEP 3: LOCK IT DOWN …read more

Still, Azria is often criticized as a designer for refusing to stray from the bandage design that propelled his brand into mainstream notoriety. After all, how many short, tight striped dresses can one fashion house make?

Well, Azria marched his response to this question down the Mercedes Benz Fashion week runways this past week. The answer? At least 32 more.

The collection managed to reinvent the bandage dress is a more cutting edge way. Azria showed conceptual dresses with dramatic cuts and complicated detailing. The typical skin tight Leger mini dresses have graduated to angular, sculpted frocks. In some pieces, the bandaging technique is abandoned altogether in favor of elaborate weaving, although there is always a subtle nod to the original thrown in masterfully.
