Many of our favorite celebrities have been seen crossing paths with one another. Many hooks ups we saw coming, many we didn’t see at all.  When looking back on some of these memorable relationships we can ask ourselves, “What were they thinking?!”

Finding out Brad Pitt had a thing for Robyn Givens in the late 80′s threw us for a loop. His taste in women seems to be very diverse. He’s had relations with Jennifer Aniston and has a blossoming  relationship with The Tomb Raider‘s Angelina Jolie. Even Mrs. Jolie-Pitt  had a few questionable relationships – Billy Bob Thornton and her infamous kiss with her brother.

Whitney Houston had us all puzzled when she began to date Brandy‘s brother Ray J. We had just become accustomed to her entertaining back and forth relationship with ‘R&B’s bad boy’ Bobby Brown.

And when Amber Rose went from throne watching Kanye West to being engaged to Wiz Khalifa, we all took a step back to question what actually brings these opposites together.

Sure, you may have complained about his snoring or eating beef jerky for breakfast, but there were plenty of other things you really liked about the big lug.

I was just reading about a movie that came out last year called Breaking Upwards about a couple who decided to break up, BUT not really. The story is partly based on actual events between director/actor Daryl Wein and actress Zoe Lister-Jones, which definitely makes the storyline something to think about. The premise is that they decide that after four years of being together, it just wasn’t working as monogamous and they decide to slowly start to see other people while not actually “breaking up.” This intrigues me – even though my lack of relationship experience precedes me, the whole idea of being “in a relationship” means being loyal to each other, so I can’t imagine just going with the flow and having such an ambiguous relationship. Can “making the rules” to your own personal relationship actually work in real life?

Some things to consider about this type of relationship are:

1. Will you get jealous if your partner starts seeing someone else?

2. Does the “openness” or ambiguity make you uncomfortable?

3. Are you prepared to become monogamous or break-up if this situation goes in either direction?

While I don’t have the answers or examples to share of real-life application of this type of relationship, let’s consider the character Carrie Bradshaw in the movie that recently came out, Sex & The City 2. Carrie is a column writer for a living and actually writes about this exact topic in the movie, since her and her husband have decided to try something new in their relationship. At the beginning of this movie, her and her husband of two years, Big have been having some trouble accepting that it’s “just the two of us” with no baby in their future, although that’s by choice. While Carrie wants to go out and have fun, Big just wants to stay in and watch TV after coming home from work. With these conflicting lifestyles, Big suggests that they “make their own rules” in the relationship and have two nights a week where they stay in separate apartments and do what they want. While Carrie is hesitant at first, she decides that they should give it a try and at first it seems to work out. However, once they’ve done it once, Carrie starts to wonder if this is how their marriage will always be and panics. However, in the end, once they start to appreciate and miss each other, they decide to go back to living together and getting the “sparkle” back in their marriage.

Despite “Breaking Upwards” being semi-fictional and Carrie Bradshaw’s situation being from a movie script, these same types of situations do happen in real life. I have a friend who was going out a guy for about two years before they decided to try “free love” and have an open relationship. Her boyfriend started seeing her friend on the side for a while, but in the end, they eventually became monogamous again. Since there was an understanding and limited jealousy, this situation worked for that moment in time (although they’ll no longer together today). What I’m trying to say is, it’s about the individual, the situation at hand, and the chemistry/trust in the relationship to begin with. It’s always possible for “making up the rules” to work, as long as both people are willing to try it and still put the same effort in the relationship to make it work. That’s what all relationships are about: always keep the communication open and anything is possible!

Also, I hate the idea of showering, getting dressed, putting my lipstick on, and curling/flat ironing my hair to only have to reconstruct myself once again after a quick lay down. Now once in a while, I don’t mind but sex in the morning every day is a big fat no for me.

Nowadays, lust has taken over for the creating of life because, usually, it’s not planned and/or expected between the individuals. The lack of protection and/or the lack of realizing the consequences have taken a giant step behind anything that would make sense. Oftentimes, this leads to a marriage of convenience (for the sake of the child and not because of love between the individuals involved) which, based on the reason for the union, ends up in divorce or extreme bitterness between the former ‘lovers’. So, the natural sequence has been broken up in the name of lust.

Some would say that some people just grow apart or just fall out of love. That may be the case in some situations, but when one is led down the path based on what is perceived as sexual gratification and not love for the other individual, the thought process becomes what it shouldn’t be, ESPECIALLY when the parties have no other chemistry between them. The drive between meeting lustful demands on both individuals, clouds the ‘feelings’ one has for the other and sometimes, vice versa.

Yes, being with a member of the opposite sex and enjoying the intimacy of that individual creates a feeling of togetherness not shared by others who are not. If we can get back to the intricacies of what love between 2 individuals is supposed to about, then maybe marriage will be a real institution instead of a convenience for the results of unbridled lust.

Gabby didn’t want to show up with Dwyane, so before they entered the club, she decided to wait in the limo for 20 minutes.  D-Wade wanted to stroll in with Alonzo so that they wouldn’t be pictured together.

If you are not yet there and are ok with waiting, it may not be the right time to get engaged.

So it looks like everyone was right about this rumor! People.com reports that Brad and Angie’s people are saying that the couple has not split up. Remember, they have been allegedly “fighting” a lot recently so maybe there might be more turmoil to come…

Then get this, Angelina wants sole custody of the six (yes, six) kids and wants to pay Brad off with $90 million. If this is true then it looks like things are going to get really ugly…

Angelina thinks Brad is a brilliant father. But I think he is insulted and above all hurt that despite all he and Angelina have shared together and the children they’ve had, it’s coming down to money.

Sleep is the quintessential “me-time,” and most people know exactly what they need in order to get the best rest. Some people like nightlights, some people crank up the thermostat, and some people enjoy white noise. Personally, I need the room to be dark, quiet, and cool before I can fall asleep, with the bed linens carefully and neatly tucked around me. Therefore, it seems particularly cruel that fate has paired me with a bedmate that snores incessantly and tears off the covers.

How freaky should you get in the bedroom?

My partner and I have radically different sleep styles. I wake up every time he tosses and turns. We fight over space, usually shoving and elbowing each other all night. As much as I hate to admit it, I secretly look forward to the nights when he’s out of town, because only then can I get a peaceful night’s sleep. Sleep is far too precious and our nightly quarrels over who’s hogging the covers have become really stressful. It seems like some final, terrible relationship frontier, but I think we might be ready for separate bedrooms.

After the video was shown, Carey was seen crying.

Or, find non-monetary ways to celebrate special occasions – and learn how men and women view money differently.

2. Unemployment, layoffs, and pink slips. These financial issues that cause problems for couples because they also affect self-esteem, confidence levels, and emotional upsets (in addition to preventing you from achieving your financial goals). According to Dr Judy, solving this financial problem – and the resulting relationship difficulties – involves planning your expenses with regular discussions and adjusting your lifestyle.

4. Children. Food, clothes, doctor’s bills, sports, entertainment, education, recreation - they’re all money issues that cause marriage problems and stop you from achieving your financial goals. Here in the states, couples rarely admit to sleeping in separate beds, but across the pond not only do one in five couples avoid sharing a bed, they claim it improves their sex lives, too. An article in the Daily Mail tells the story of engaged couple Laura Mason and Colin Byers, both of whom are 28 and have slept in separate beds four of the last five years they’ve lived together. Citing sleep incompatibility as the reason for their separate beds – his snoring and warm body temperature keep her awake at night – they say their relationship and sex life improved when they stopped sleeping together: “We are just as close as ever. In fact, as soon as we made the decision, our sex life improved. We’d had a great sex life in our first year together, but having no sleep was making us too tired and irritable to crave that intimacy.”

They realize their arrangement is unique and may cause others to raise their eyebrows. “It seems to be the antithesis of romance,” Laura admits, “and other people’s attitudes make us occasionally question our judgment-if we love each other, surely we should be able to sleep in each other’s arms.” But they insist that they’re every bit as romantic and affectionate as couples who share a bed. They hold hands, cuddle on the couch, and start the night in the same bed before they separate for a good night’s sleep. Before they made the decision to sleep separately, they say they were always tired, and snappy with each other as a result. “I am looking forward to a long, happy marriage to Laura,” Colin says. “We’ve just had to accept that we are not sleep compatible and make a rational decision about it. I really don’t care what other people think-this works for us.”

This seems fine and good for Laura and Colin, and they seem sincere in their need for adequate sleep, but when are separate beds the sign of a relationship that’s in trouble?

Despite controversy, ex-Spice Girl Melanie Brown is in full support of Disney’s new movie The Princess and the Frog. The star thinks the film should have been made ages ago and doesn’t mind that the Black princess is paired with a lighter skin-toned prince:

“We should be applauding interracial relationships and have more of an open mind. It’s brilliant. In this day and age, races are integrated – we have a Black president of America now – so it shouldn’t matter.”
