Get your version of this look by following these steps:

Apply a primer to your eyelids so the color doesn’t wipe off. Next, brush a warm, neutral shimmer across your eyelid and a light shimmer shade to the brow bone. Apply a slightly darker shade to the crease of your eye and blend. Use muted shades similar to what was in the Eyeshadow Quad by Smashbox Cosmetics (no longer being sold). The shades were perfectly coordinated to contour, highlight, and define your eyes.

Next, line the rim of your eyes with the black and purple colors from the Cream Eyeliner Palette in Mettalic by Smashbox Cosmetics ($32, ulta.com). Don’t concern yourself with being neat or having straight lines. Softly & gently blend outward just beyond your lashline. Next, plump and lengthen your lashes with a mascara to bring attention to your eyes.

If you have barely-there brows, use Brow Power’s Eyebrow Pencil, It Cosmetics ($24, henribendels.com) to temporarily restore them to recreate Chrisette’s look. Fill in with soft, gentle, short strokes.

A self-described fan of bohemian-couture, the soulful songstress, Maya Azucena is the real deal in my book. As a performer who tours the world over, Maya knows the importance of looking her best on stage and in pictures as evidenced in this Billie Holiday-esque shot.

In a recent interview with Maya, she clued me in on what some of her fave beauty products are. In fact, some of those very products helped to create what you see here. If you’d like to mimic this look, then have a look-see at these steps:

Step 1: Use a foundation that gives you good coverage. Maya won’t be caught dead without her M·A·C ‘Studio Fix’ Powder Plus Foundation ($26, nordstrom.com). In her words, “I use MAC makeup almost exclusively. Their eye makeup has held up the best out of the many I’ve tried, especially when it comes to lasting throughout a concert or a long event.”  With MAC’s Studio Fix, you get a flawless complexion with a one-step application of foundation and powder.

Maya says that the most important part of her makeup is the eyes.  ”MAC’s color choices are wonderful and stay vibrant even if I perspire during a show.”

Step 2: To get these mesmerizing eyes, use MAC’s Spring Color Forecast Eyeshadow ($36, nordstrom.com). This quad compact has all of the colors you need to get eyes that make a statement. Apply the second lightest shade all over your entire eyelid as a base. Next, use the lightest shade on the brow bone to accentuate the shape of your brow. Next, apply the the third darkest shade into the crease of your eye and blend back and forth with your brush. And lastly, with a flat eyeshadow brush, line your eyes with the darkest and blend.

Without the perfect mascara, you’re mesmerizing eye makeup is hardly complete. One of Maya’s makeup bag essentials is L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara ($7.25, drugstore.com).

Step 3: Get a great application of mascara every time. Pull the wand out of the tube. Place the brush at the base of your lashes and vibrate the brush from left to right. You lengthen your lashes while removing clumps at the same time. Repeat steps on the top side of your lashes.

Step 4: I threw one of my picks into the mix. To give the apple of your cheeks that perfect glow, I’d use Estée Lauder’s ‘Bronze Goddess’ Bronzing Blush ($35, nordstrom.com). This gel bronzer blush has serious staying power.

Step 5: Since Maya says she’s pretty “flexible when it comes lip gloss and lipsticks,” I chose Hourglass Prodigy Hydrating Lip Gloss, Legend - ($26, barneys.com) to wrap up this look - no lipliner necessary. I love the unconventional packaging that makes carrying this gloss in your clutch or jean pockets a breeze. No bulge here.

This seasoned performer has learned a thing or two over the years about what makeup looks do and don’t work for her. Her advice to you is “not be afraid of your complexion - you’re beautiful with the attributes you were born with, just learn how to  work with it!” I couldn’t have said it any better.

Buy The Right Products For Your Skin Type

With POP Beauty‘s products being all about standing out, this one was no different! The U.K-based company introduced their newest product to make your cheeks and nose happy. With a title that makes its purpose self-explanatory, “Apples of the Cheeks” gel blush even smells fantastic – imagine a basket full of freshly picked apples. And, with two shades, Au Natural and Rouge, the product can be used on fair to dark skin.

I tried the Au Natural, which looked to be ideal for my fair/olive complexion. As this product boasts that it’ll give you a “sun kissed, natural look,” I was convinced that this would soon be a part of my daily mascara-and-bronzer routine. As soon as I took it out of the packaging, I fell in love with the twist-to-apply feature, which makes it way easier to put on, especially when you’re in a rush.

Now, I don’t wear much makeup, never really have because of my ultra-acne-prone/sensitive skin, so, being the novice that I am, I took the wand out and quickly read the instructions on how to apply. It said to, while smiling, make an “X” on the highest point on your cheek; okay, sounds easy, right? With my biggest smile displayed in the mirror, I painted an X on either side of my cheek and then blended in the make-up with the applicator.  However, I looked as though someone punched me on the side of my face; it looked neither “sun kissed” nor “natural”.

I took a napkin, wet it with warm water, and scrubbed my cheek, which wasn’t the best of ideas: the right side of my face looked like I slept on it, it had a big red mark on it. So I tried the other cheek, but this time I blended the make-up in with my finger. Still nothing!!  It just didn’t look “au natural.” Maybe it was the color, or maybe I just don’t know how to apply makeup, but this definitely did nothing for my face. Just as I was about to call it a day, one of my coworkers walked in, and I asked her if she would be a test dummy for this product. Her skin is darker than mine, and it seemed like it would be a perfect match.  She gave me her biggest smile, blended the make-up on her cheeks, and voila: nothing but a slight shimmer.

Alyson tried the rouge shade and loved it; maybe that shade would have looked a little more natural on me instead, seeing as how my cheeks get red when I blush, not brown. While it scored in handiness, fragrance, and concept, Au Natural was not a one-size fits-all product.
