The new guidelines, which the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) labeled “historic,” will require new health insurance plans to include women’s preventive services including FDA approved contraceptives, breast feeding support, and well-women visits — all without charging a co-payment, co-insurance or a deductible — beginning August 1, 2012.

Another birth control revolution may be on the horizon. Fifty years after the pill was introduced, free contraception for women in the U.S., may be in effect thanks to the new health care law by the Obama administration. According to the LA Times, the Obama administration, is recommending that all U.S.-approved birth control methods — including the “morning after pill,” taken shortly after intercourse to forestall pregnancy — be added to the federal government’s list of preventive health services.

The IOM noted that women with unplanned pregnancies were more likely to put off or neglect prenatal care and to smoke, drink or experience depression.

The recommendation to add birth control is a big gain for organizations like the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and Planned Parenthood, but is likely to stoke opposition from conservative and religious groups.

Other services recommended by IOM include screening for gestational diabetes, testing for human papillomavirus (HPV) in women over 30, counseling for HIV and sexually transmitted infections, lactation counseling, screening for domestic violence and yearly wellness visits.

This would be a groundbreaking moment for women in the U.S.

Guys, would you take a birth control pill? Ladies, would you trust your man to take the pill consistently? Scientists in Israel say they have developed just that.  The pill would be taken by men once every three months and is said to deactivate sperm before it reaches the womb. The scientists behind the male pill discovery have developed a tablet that removes a vital protein in sperm that is required for a woman to conceive. So while sperm still can get through to the uterus they are unable to fertilize an egg. They say that the pill is 100 percent effective and that there are no side effects as there are with many female contraceptives.

How Soon Is Too Soon For Teens To Show Skin?

For years the burden of preventing pregnancy has been toppled onto the woman. We are the ones who must make the consistent trips to the gynecologist. We are the ones who must remember to pick up the prescription every month, and God forbid if you forget to take your pill on one day. It is also us that have to suffer the side effects of birth control pills such as weight gain, moodiness, increase in hunger etc…

It would seem that this new pill is a way to even out the playing fields of sexual responsibility between men and women. At the same time, by giving the responsibility over to men, are we also giving up the control over our bodies that we lacked for so many years in the past? After all, birth control pills finally gave women some sense of control over their bodies and the choice of when and if they wanted to have children. Would entrusting men with the responsibility of birth control pills be like giving that same control back to men?

The bigger question is: Should we trust it? Contrary to the male birth control pill, scientists and individuals in the medical field have had years to perfect birth control pills for women. Also, I don’t know many women would entrust that responsibility of remembering to take the pill unto their man. Ladies, would your man be willing to take this? May 9th 2010 was the 50th anniversary of the day that the FDA gave women a life altering tool. A tool so powerful that it could affect a woman’s fate in one of the biggest decisions she would make in her life. It is the day that they approved birth control for women. You know how they say the pill is only 99.9% effective? Well, here’s proof that that .1% really and truly DOES exist. Carly O’Brien, of the United Kingdom, didn’t beat the odds just once, but TWICE – and just gave birth to her second set of twins, all while being on the pill.

Says Daily Mail,

The 22-year-old and her partner John Grant, 28, were amazed when she gave birth to her first set of twins Brandon and Daisy.

Now, two years on, Carly has stunned experts by giving birth to another miracle set of twins – Dylan and Lilly.

Carly said: ‘It’s amazing that Brandon and Daisy were born in October 2006, when I was on the pill, and now Lilly and Dylan are here too.

‘Everyone I’ve spoken to, all my friends and family and even the staff at the hospital, say they have never known anything like it.

‘It was a massive shock, but we’re delighted of course, as we now have four beautiful healthy children aged less than three.’

Carly, from Portsmouth, Hants, had been using the contraceptive pill since she was 17 and never imagined she could get pregnant while using it.

But when Carly missed a period and started being sick, she may be pregnant.

A pregnancy test confirmed it but it wasn’t until her 12 week scan she discovered she was carrying twins.

A new study suggests that the pill can change the kind of men you find yourself attracted to!

According to Scientific American, women tend to flock toward men whose histocompatibility complex (MHC) genes, which have a significant effect on a man’s scent, differ from their own. However, being on the pill can affect how one perceives a man’s MHC genes, causing them to be attracted to guys who have genes that are similar to their own.

So what does this mean for women in relationships on the pill?

Unfortunately, going off the pill mid-relationship can mean breakups for a lot of women who went into the relationship while on birth control. A study has shown that those who are in relationships with men with similar MHC genes are more likely to cheat and be less sexually satisfied! Bummer.
