Trina later took to Twitter to express her anger towards not being nominated, tweeting “F*ck BET!” while Nicki Minaj and Diamond shouted Trina out on their Twitter pages, showing their concern and disappointment with Trina not being nominated in the category with them.

Trina, Nicki and Diamond weren’t the only ones confused about the female Hip Hop nominees. It seemed that everyone took to Twitter to express their frustration resulting with BET executive producer Stephen Hill to speak out. Stephen spoke to BET.com about the nominations and explained why Trina was not in the category, hopefully mending any ill feelings towards the network and the Miami rapper.

BET.com: How were the nominees chosen for this year’s BET Awards?

Stephen Hill: Like every time, there’s a collection of music industry folks, bloggers, music writers and, most importantly, a collection of fans that were gleaned from BET.com. We call it the Voting Academy. We had fans, music writers, bloggers and music industry folks.

BET.com: Why wasn’t Trina nominated in the Female Hip Hop category?

Stephen Hill: Okay, that was because Trina didn’t submit a video that was in during the eligibility period. Let me back up. To be eligible, here’s what you have to have: a video that’s submitted and then first played on BET…between April 1 of one year and March 30 of the next year. So for this eligibility period it would be April 1 of 2010 to March 30 of 2011. She did not release a video to us in that time. “Million Dollar Girl” came in March. I think it was March 12 or so of 2010. And so she was in last year’s nominees for that. While she was featured in Lola Monroe’s video, the rules are you have to release a video of your own. You have to be the primary artist on it. You can’t be just the feature artist and be eligible. So that’s why Lola Monroe was eligible but Trina was not for this year because it came out this year. So I’ve reached out to her camp. I’ve talked to the head of her label. And actually the only reason I might get off this call is because I may be getting a call from Trina while this call is going on.

And I want to be clear: We love Trina, we work with Trina. She performed “Million Dollar Girl” on Rip the Runway in February of 2010. So we love Trina. We definitely understand that it’s a misunderstanding. And I’ll tell you now, if I were Trina and I’d released something during the eligibility period and it had not been nominated, I probably would’ve had a little bit of side-eye too. But the truth is she just wasn’t in the eligibility period.

Antoine and his antics represent some of the same shucking and jiving that we would see in an old slave narrative. Doing whatever it takes to keep master happy and pleased with me. For Antoine, he knows that the moment he stops shucking the money will end.

When I see him going into his antics where he mispronounces words while dragging out the syllables in other for emphasis, and pops his lips and walks around with a scarf on his head; I have to wonder, at what point will he realize that he is perpetuating a stereotype? Or does he care as long as the money is rolling in?

I guess it irks me to think that somewhere there are big time execs in their sky scrapper offices in Manhattan laughing it up at the video of Antoine Dodson doing his jig. Sure he got a nice check from them but you better believe that their share was better.

They say Rihanna got in touch with Chris Brown after watching him cry on the BET Awards.

Witness: “Chris Brown Used Eye Drops To ‘Cry’ At BET Awards!”

MTV UK quotes a source from Heat Magazine saying,

“It’s been almost a year since they last spoke, but Rihanna felt like she could try to be friends with Chris again.”

“Seeing how emotional he was on set [at the BET Awards] really touched her. She’d never seen him like that before.”

“Chris told her that he felt like he’s grown up in the past year. He’s said he’s so happy to be back in touch with her.”

“They were each other’s first love and he’s missed her so much. Rihanna knows that if she wanted him back, he’d be there in a second.”

The couple are said to have exchanged a few text messages, since their telephone conversation with a pal of RiRi’s, claiming she is keen to meet Brown face-to-face.

Despite being allegedly in contact with the I Can Transform Ya’ singer again, the pair have not been in touch since Brown was sentenced to 180 days of community labour and given five years probation for attacking Rihanna. SOURCE

Chris Brown caused a lot of chatter at the BET Awards Sunday when he broke down in tears during a Michael Jackson tribute.

An insider says the crying was fake.

Before he took the stage to belt out “Man in the Mirror,” a backstage source tells Us one of Brown’s bodyguards gave the singer, 21, tear-inducing eye drops.

Brown’s rep denies it, telling Us that this account is “completely untrue.” But the witness says Brown definitely used drops. See the top 10 shameless male crying displays.

With the BET awards happening this Sunday, HB was given the opportunity to talk to Lynne Harris Taylor, the executive producer of the show. She talks about what she’s excited about, what’s different about the show this year, and her role in it:

What about Queen Latifah is going to make her a good host for the BET awards?

Oh, wow.  Queen Latifah is… she is phenomenal in so many different ways.  She is a singer, actress, model, and a spokesperson for women.  She is so well rounded that you can pretty much place Queen Latifah anywhere and she is going to come out on top.  She is personable and beautiful.  She is not only hosting the show, but she is a part of what we are doing.  We didn’t just ask her, “can you host the show?”  She IS the show.  She is everything that we are about here.  She is going to be amazing.

Yeah! Hello Beautiful is an African American online woman’s guide, so we encourage everything that Queen Latifah is about.

It seems like Music Matters is a wonderful way for BET to look into the future: I was wondering what exactly you were hoping would come out of it?

I think that music has had quite a bit of a struggle lately, especially hip hop.  A lot of the time, most of the top tier artists, the A-list artists, are the ones that people know about and follow.  Yet, there are so many other talented musical artists out there.  What we are trying to do is focus on music and how important music is as a whole.  There are so many amazingly talented people that haven’t made it to the top yet.  Our effort is to reach out to these people and bring them to the front.  This should be an ongoing initiative that we are starting.  We hope to have more events to bring unknown talent out to the public to help people understand how important music is.  It is a great opportunity to find potential.

It’s obvious that Michael Jackson’s death had a big impact on last year’s show with the emotional memorial.  What do you think will be the impact of his death anniversary this year?

We definitely have a tribute to Michael Jackson on this year’s show.  It was such a horrible experience last year that the entire world went through.  I remember we were here, 2 days before the BET awards show.  We were in a great place with the show planned out, and all of a sudden we hear that Michael Jackson died.  I thought it was a rumor at first.  Once it was confirmed, it was like a wave that went over the entire office, through the whole venue.  We were in shock.  There was no way that we could not make our show about Michael Jackson: he’s our icon. We are definitely going to have a tribute to him and his family this year to remember him and his music.

It seems like you are going to have a lot of digital exclusives and have more ways for the public to get involved online.  What are you hoping comes out of this?

There is so much good that you can do.  Of course, our show is focused on music celebration.  But there is much more you can do when you have so many eyes on you.  So in addition to Music Matters, we are going to do Shine A Light: we are selecting three local heroes that are doing remarkable things in their communities.  We are shining a light on them to celebrate what they are doing and to encourage other people to make a difference no matter what.  Anything that you do is something and is needed.  We have an exclusive performance that will not be shown anywhere except for on BET.com.  This will take place between the pre-show and the beginning of the BET awards show.  We have a 360 camera that will be on the red carpet this year to highlight the fashionista in everyone that comes. We have a special fashion show that will air the day after the BET awards for the first time ever.

What is it like being a female in the spotlight?  What advice do you have for young girls who are passionate about production and music?

I think the main thing that I have learned through all of this is that when you are on the outside and you are looking at people who work with celebrities and you think you aren’t equipped to do it, none of that matters.  Of course education matters, but if you don’t have everything available to you, be persistent.  Be persistent and patient with your dreams.  Every step that you can make towards your dreams is really important.  Be yourself and work on communication skills.  If I can communicate with someone, the rest is easy.  When I decided that I want to work on television, I would write down the names of everyone in the credits.  I wrote them all a letter and told them what I want to do.  Be persistent and there is always a way to get to your dreams.  Take every opportunity that you can get, even if it’s local.  Meet everyone possible and get involved whenever you can.  Don’t wait. Start wherever you can.  Start pursuing your passions where you are, not where you want to be.  That passion will take you where you want to be.

You are obviously very busy with lots of opportunities.  What impact does your profession have on your personal life?

SIGH. I have gotten better with it.  I’m married with three children.  It takes a lot of organization.  I need to be out of town for maybe 12-14 weeks out of the year.  Planning is the main thing that has helped me.  When I know that I have to be out of town, my husband and I plan everything together.  Sometimes I bring them with me: we will budget it accordingly.  It’s hectic, but as long as you’re willing to work it out then it is worth it.  You don’t want your children to suffer because of your career.  You want your kids to see their parents doing what they love, so that they can be inspired to do what THEY love.  It takes a lot of coordination but we work it out.  I have a great support system.

Jay-Z Is A Wife Beater On BET

Prince has been named this year’s BET Lifetime Achievement Award recipient!

The 51 year old superstar joins the likes of Whitney Houston, Diana Ross, James Brown, and Al Green in being honored by the BET Awards, which will celebrate its 10th year in Los Angeles on June 27.

BET says the Prince tribute will stand out. Stephen G. Hill, president of programming, music and specials for the network, said BET will celebrate the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s “unique style.”

“Prince is dynamic. Prince is genius. Prince is music,” Hill said of the performer, who has 10 platinum albums and 30 Top 40 singles to his name.

The BET show will be hosted by Queen Latifah and include performances by Kanye West.

This weekend stars came out in mass for the BET Hip Hop Awards in Atlanta. The show was hosted by comedian Mike Epps, and featured DJ Khaled as the MC, as well as performances from Jay-Z, Jeezy and Ludacris.  Ice Cube was also honored during the ceremony.

The show is set to air on BET on October 27.

“Let me first categorically deny it, that’s not even my style,” Jay stated.” If I have a problem with Chris Brown, I have a problem with Chris Brown. I haven’t said anything live or behind the scenes. I don’t agree with what he did, that’s it. As far as not letting him perform, that’s ridiculous and stupid. That’s a sucker move and I wouldn’t do it, and people commenting on rumors, it’s a sucker move…That’s not how I deal with my problems.”

So this past weekend while I was in L.A. for the BET awards I ran into none other then Mr. Transformer himself Tyrese Gibson walking hand and hand with Ms. Sanaa Lathan at quite a few events. They tried to duck the media and paparazzi but it obviously didnt work because everyone was talking about this hot new couple this past weekend. These two were spotted sneaking into Diddy’s BET party at club My House to the famous eatery Katsuya! And Ms. Lathan did not seem shy displaying her affection because she could not get enough of her new beau her hands were all over him! It’s obvious that these two have been dating for a while because they seemed VERY much in tune with one another to be in a “NEW” relationship. I am guessing that they had to try and keep it hush hush due to Tyrese’s recent high profile divorce, but these two didn’t let anything stand in their way this weekend!!

Just skipped over here from www.UrbanBeautyCollective.com to give you the low-down on Alicia Keys.  Didn’t she look ga-ga-gorgeous at the BET Awards?!  Well, I wanted to know how the look was put together and had to search no further than our UBC’s very own Style Squad members Wouri Vice and Tippi Shorter.  Yep, Wouri and Tippi micro-blog about celebrity style for UBC, so they’re like family.  And of course, family gets the scoop, right?  So here its is…

UBC:  ALICIA WAS JAW-DROPPINGLY AMAZING ON THE BET RED CARPET.  HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO CULTIVATE THIS TYPE OF LOOK?

WV: That is really funny.  My assistant and I were sitting and looking at a catalog of the Jenny Pack collection and as soon as I saw the dress (and her performance dress) I knew we had to have them for the fitting.  The amount of time we have is really dictated by the artist schedule.  We had a fitting about a week before for Alicia.

TS: Typically I start with the type of event, the weather, and then the clothes. And all of those elements played a part in this style. It was super hot that day and I knew that her natural curl would be the best option.

UBC:  WOURI, DO YOU DO LARGE PULLS FOR ALICIA OR PRESENT HER WITH A HANDFUL OF OPTIONS?  HOW LONG HAVE YOU TWO WORKED TOGETHER?

WV: I pulled about 5 dresses and when she tried that one, we knew it was the one.

Then the fitting took about 20 minutes.  I think it was the fastest fitting of my career.

I’ve worked with Alicia since 2002.

UBC: HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE HER LOOK FOR THE AWARDS?

WV: She was a cross between a Moroccan queen with Diane Ross hair and Cleopatra eyes.  It’s all Black Beauty at its best.

TS: Bohemian.  On her downtime she’s very laid back and I wanted to give her a relaxed feeling with such a beautiful dress.

UBC: TIPPI, WE ALL WANT THE BREAK DOWN.  HOW’D YOU ACHIEVE THE LOOK?

TS: I started with the Pantene nature fusion shampoo and conditioner, we love the smell and it makes the hair feel beautiful. I used Ego-boost leave-in by Bed Head to detangle and applied Pantene curls shaper anti frizz cream. This was the foundation to have those big curls last through that heat. I used an iron about the size of my pinky to refine her curls and added the Ojon serum to separate and fluff her curls. I finished the look with Tresseme 24hour body holding spray, it’s amazing.

UBC:  WOURI, TELL US ABOUT THE SHOES AND ACCESSORIES.

WV: Christian Louboutin shoes, Mary Norton clutch and the ring which was chosen at the very last minute.  We tried to keep the accessories minimal because of the jewels on the mini.  The balls on the shoes worked with the balls on the dress, then the handbag had the same embellishment, it just all fell into place.

UBC: CAN SOMEONE ACHIEVE THIS LOOK AT HOME IF THEY DON’T HAVE THE FABULOUS WOURI OR TIPPI AROUND?

WV: Find a great tunic and if you are bold enough you can wear it as an extra mini or for the larger woman you can wear it with pants.  Tunics work great with different body types.  Accessories are key.  Coordinate accessories you don’t need to match.

TS: You can definitely create this at home with the above steps. If you don’t have the length or the natural curl, you can use hair extensions.   I just so happen to have my own line of hair extensions GET GORGEOUS HAIR www.getgorgeoushair.com
unfortunately; there aren’t any short-cuts. Great styles take time.

UBC:  WOURI, HOW WAS IT COLLABORATING TOGETHER AND WITH ASHUNTA ON MAKE-UP FOR ALICIA’S FLAWLESS LOOK? HOW DO YA’LL WORK TOGETHER?

WV: Those are my sisters!  Tippi and Ashunta are geniuses when it comes to hair and makeup.  We have worked together for many, many years. There is a flow between us.

TS: I love them and love to work with them. We are a solid team and work really well together.

of sun-kissed glow and Egyptian/Moroccan eyes with coral lips remniscent of the colors of a Moroccan paradise.

Cheeks: Bare Escentuals Flowers Blush applied to apples of her cheeks to make them pop.

UPDATE:  Drake recently sat down to be interviewed with Complex magazine and spoke about last Sunday’s BET Awards.

This past Sunday, everyone was shocked to see you sitting on a stool. Did you ever think to yourself, Maybe I shouldn’t perform?

Drake: That, actually-to be honest-was a terrible idea that I’ll never do to myself again. [Laughs] But I was being pressed from different areas to perform, and I think what really happened at the BET Awards is with the passing of Mike, the climate really changed, as far as the award show goes. I don’t think it called for us to perform “Every Girl” and “Always Strapped,” and I think it was an award show filled with tributes and music and these genuine heartfelt speeches. And to sort of climax out of a very tongue-in-cheek point, and then people misconstruing Wayne’s daughters and her friends coming out on stage…

Complex: Yeah, it really was an awkward moment.

Drake: Yeah, it was just timed very poorly and it definitely wasn’t planned like that, but with that being said, it is what is. I believe in Wayne and myself and it’s nothing we can’t bounce back from. To anyone who was offended, my personal apologies, it wasn’t intended to offend anybody.

We were pretty upset with this performance Sunday night, but now we’re outraged because we just found out some of the young girls that appeared on the stage with Drake and Lil Wayne are family.

Turns out that girl group OMG, were the underage girls who appeared onstage with the duo.

The group’s lead singer is Zonnique, 12, daughter of Tameka “Tiny” Cottle. The other three members are Reginae Carter, 9, Wayne’s daughter with Toya Carter who stars on Tiny & Toya (which premieres on BET tonight at 10pm); Bahjah Rodriguez, who turns 12 in August, and her sister Lourdes Rodriguez, who turns 11 in September.

8. Monica’s Michael Jackson inspired jacket- It was an obvious tribute to MJ’s style, but there were other performers who hit it more dead on to his style.

7. Jamie Foxx’s white v-neck- A great screen print, keeping it real with a picture of MJ. The lines are a little distracting, however.

6. Ciara’s sequined jacket- This was a much closer imitation of MJ’s style, however a little off still.

4. Audience Member’s Jacket- This jacket stole the show with clothing which referenced MJ. The bright color and MJ inspired look puts it above the rest.

3. New Edition’s vintage Michael outfit- One of the few outfits to keep it vintage, so naturally it got high marks.

2. Keri Hilson’s Michael Jackson look-alike- This one might have won standing alone, the jacket, tight pants rolled up, the socks, shoes, the whole thing looks very similar to MJ’s style, however we have to give credit to…

RUMOR: Jay-Z Shuts Down Breezy’s BET Performance

Did any of you wonder why you didn’t see Chris Brown at the MJ tribute at the BET awards last night? Well according to bossip.com, Jay-Z threatened to pull out of the show if Chris stepped anywhere near the BET stage.

Here’s what they’re saying:

Chris had been rehearsing and everything and Jay-Z pulled the plug on him single-handedly because everyone (record label, execs, etc) gave BET the ok for Chris to perform. I know as a fan of Michael’s, I was disappointed because even though Chris is going through all that mess with Rhi-Rhi he is a great performer and he will never be Michael Jackson but he is the most like him right now.

I guess Jay couldn’t put aside the drama with Chris and Rihanna for one night.
