Labor Day generally signals an onslaught of falling leaves and cool breezes, but before these last few days of summer are gone, get out there and have some fun! There are still sun rays to be soaked up, so before you pack your short shorts and bikinis away, take a look at this list of 20 things to do before summer kisses your bronzed skin goodbye!

1) Get your camera and start snapping.  There is no better way to capture the essence of the summer than with pictures! Take a few shots that will help you to remember the summer of 2010 forever.

2) Get a bright colored mani-pedi.  Its summer time! When you get to the nail salon and its time to choose your nail polish, give the standard french a rest.  Go for a hot pink or orange, if for no other reason than because its summer and you can do that!

3) Let your hair air dry.  Feel free to wash your hair and let it dry into its natural state without risking pneumonia.  The summer sun can do amazing things to your hair color so let it loose and don’t worry about styling, primping and pressing for a change

4) Put on that bikini! Whether you have been avoiding it all summer or you just want to get one last good run out of it, put on your swimsuit and go for a swim (or just look cute sitting by the pool).

5) Have lunch at a sidewalk cafe.  Scope out a cute little table at one of those quaint little eateries and eat! Outside!

6) Go check out your local botanical gardens.  Don’t miss out on the beautiful flora growing in these neighborhood sanctuaries.

7) Ride around with your windows open.  As wonderful as air conditioning is, scarcely do we realize how isolated it causes us to be.  Pick a not-too-hot day and put those car windows down. Enjoy the fresh air.

8) Drink lemonade. There’s nothing quite like an ice cold glass of lemonade on a hot summer day, is there?

9) Go to an outdoor movie. Check your local newspapers and libraries for info on outdoor movie screenings.  Sometimes you can catch old classics or even newer films.

10) Have a girls night out.  Pick out a hot little number and some cute sandals, choose a nice lounge or nightclub, call up your girlfriends and go gallivanting about your city. Trekking through the snow in four inch heels to get to the club is just not as much fun.

15) Have a picnic.  If the whole blanket and basket thing is too much for you, then just have a sandwich with a good friend on a park bench.  Enjoy your meal and the warm breeze.

16) Get a tan. No matter what the shade of your skin, lathering up with a good SPF and taking some rays will always leave you with a bronzed glow.

17) Watch the sun set. By the time winter comes back around, you’ll be so focused on getting through rush hour traffic that the sun will set with out you even realizing. Welcome dusk while it’s still later in the day.

18) Wear colorful sunglasses. Its easier to get away with during the summer.

The summer is seriously winding down now! Back in May when we were all anticipating our summer plans, going to the beach was one of the first things on our lists.  Just because it’s getting a little windier doesn’t mean that you need to stop thinking about sinking your toes into the sand.

Even though an amazing part about going to the beach is laying out until your skin feels like it’s melting and then jumping into the ocean, I find that I have a lot of fun there on colder days as well.  Throw on a sweatshirt and take that long walk on the beach that you normally would.

Something that my friends and I enjoy are bonfires at the beach.  Specifically, nighttime bonfires.  It’s a little windy by the water, perfect weather for a fire, marshmallows, and the occasional dip into the water.  The wind also makes it perfect for flying kites: so use this time to do two of your favorite summer activities!

So let’s end this summer right: Show the changing weather who’s boss by not changing your plans.  Keep yourself warm while still enjoying the sand between your toes and the feel of your hair from the salt water wind!

The hot weather we’re experiencing this weekend made us think of the beach days that are coming our way. A beach bag should reflect your style and personality and help you to organize all the stuff you need when you go to the beach or pool. Here are some of our faves:

Many African-Americans think that they do not need to worry about sun protection since they tend to not immediately feel the effects of sun damage like people with less melanin do. The truth is that we must protect ourselves just as much while soaking up those rays and here’s how you do it:

1. The first important thing to do to prevent sunburn is to wear protection against the harmful UV light of the sun. Wear waterproof sunscreen on the body and any exposed areas if you are going to the beach, swimming in the pool or lake. Remember to replenish and reapply the sunscreen often throughout the day. Don’t forget to apply sun protection to areas like behind the ears, the back of the arms, and other “hard-to-reach” areas.

2. Wear protective clothing especially SPF clothes which can be bought at specialty store or order online at many online businesses selling SPF protective clothing.

3. Wear large broad brim hats to cover the scalp, face, and head from sun’s harmful UV rays. It is also a good idea to carry some shade with you like an umbrella, especially for the elderly and the pediatric age groups as well as individuals on medication. These groups of people are more sensitive and have lower tolerance to long exposure to the sun’s heat and will become dehydrated faster.

4. Some prescription medication increases your sensitivity to direct sunlight so be informed and educated when you are on medications and find out before going out into the sun if this can happen. Ask your doctor or your local pharmacist and read the labels and instructions on the back of the prescription bottle.

5. DO NOT expose young infants and babies under 6 months of age in direct sunlight. Always cover the young infant with protective clothing and sun hat and carry some portable shade. It is also not recommended to apply sunscreen protection on babies as their skin are very sensitive to the chemicals that are in most of these products. Use specially pediatric formulated lotions to protect against dryness of the skin. Remember to hydrate the infant often with pediatric formulated fluids or water throughout the day if you are planing a family day out in the summer sun. There are many types and varieties of products in the stores that sell water with electrolytes added to it.

6. Remember that even in the car one can get a sunburn. There are certain precautions and protective measures to take to decrease the risk of this happening especially if you have young family members and babies. Taking long trips in the car can expose the infants and children to the UV light that penetrates the windows. One thing to do is to have the windows tinted and UV protected. This will decrease the intensity and amount of UV light entering the car. If your car does not have tinted windows there are cheaper and temporary ways to give protection. One way is to place a towel or small sheet on to the window or you can purchase UV light window shields at most children’s specialty stores that have sticky backs on them to enable it to be removed easily after use from the window. It is better to use the car air-conditioning rather than rolling down the window if you are traveling long distances and for many hours in the car. Also remember the sunroof and convertible cars will expose the people in the car to the direct sunlight so wear sunscreen protection before going out on a long excursion or car journey on a hot sunny day.

7. Another way to stay save in the sun is to periodically move into a shady area to allow your body temperature to cool down and also to prevent the risk of sunburn to your skin. Drinking plenty of water is advisable. Avoid certain hours and times during the day , for example, the midday sun is usually the hottest time of the day and the sun at its maximum intensity. Try to schedule your outings and trips to the early hours or late afternoon periods in the day especially if you have young babies and children, or elderly, or have people on prescription medication.

8. Find a pair of sunglasses that will give you UV protection so you can reduce the risk of burning your retina or cornea or even burning the eyelids. There are many variety of styles and shapes available but it is better to get advice with an optician or ophthalmologist when purchasing a good pair of eye protection. Remember, also , if you wear contact lenses you will probably be at more risk to getting dry eyes and eye problems if you don’t wear eye protection when out in he direct sunlight. Carry plenty of eye solution with you when planning a day out in the sun.

Summer time is here and romance is in the air. Beachy hair, tan skin, and cute boys are the perfect combo getting everyone in the mood for some love and lust. So what better way to take advantage of the good weather, spice up the sex life, and get down and dirty (literally) than to take it outside?

Stake out your spot. Having the waves lap at your toes may sound sexy, but the closer you are to the water, the more exposed you’ll be. Sandy sexing requires a little groundwork. Look for a semi-private spot near a dune or large rock; a little cove would be ideal.

Know what to leave behind. Sticky lubricant + sticky sand = no fun, so leave the lube at home and warm each other up the old-fashioned way.

Dress for the occasion. Getting buck-naked may be hotter, but the more time you spend fumbling with your clothes, the greater your risk of getting caught. Elastic-waist swim shorts are a good easy-on-easy-off option for guys, while gals should opt for skirts or dresses.

Avoid the water. Yes, we know it looks hot in movies. The downside is that 1) water sex is awkward, 2) water sex can dry you out (if you know what we mean), and 3) water sex puts you in close contact with sharp shells, riptides, random sea creatures, and evil jellyfish (unless you like golden showers). And need we remind you of the opening scene of “Jaws”?

Once you’re done, clean up and leave the scene of the crime within 10 minutes. Take a long shower as soon as you get home to remove any sand from your treasure chest.

There’s nothing worse than stepping into a dressing room and trying on a bathing suit.  I’d rather have a root canal.  Here’s out guide on how to choose the right bathing suit for every shape:

1. Visualize your figure with a new outlook and learn to start respecting it.

2. Now stand in front of the mirror and decide what body shape you have. Be brave and honest; whatever shape you are, there is a swimsuit designed for you.

3. Once you have established your shape, it’s time to go shopping. Keep a good picture in your mind’s eye of your shape and shop for it. There’s a few things you should keep in mind in relation to your body shape:

*Short torso: If your upper body is smaller than your legs, then all you need is to look lithe. For that you must place the emphasis more on your bust and shoulders by wearing a halter-top, pairing it with low cut bikini bottoms. Long torso: to create the illusion of having longer legs, select a one-piece bikini or swimsuit with high-cut legs.

*Pear shape: in case you have to flatten your shape, wear a tank top with bottoms in dark or subdued colours.

*Large bust: bikini suits now come in all sizes, some with a hidden underwire which will provide good support. You should opt for a top cut straight across that has wide set straps. Small bust: to add a subtle cleavage wear a bikini top that has triangle-shaped cups with a tie-front.

*Plus size: not only black but deep blues and reds have a minimizing effect on the figure. Swimsuits with good fitting and high lycra/spandex percentage will be better. Flabby Stomach: go for a loose tankini.

We just came across this story and was so happy that someone finally agrees with what we’ve been saying for so long:

I figure that any location with a drink named after it (Sex on the Beach) must be a great place to try it out. But I can disprove any theory that sex in certain “traditional” hot spots is good. Here is my reasoning:

Sex on the Beach

Ever since Jaws, I’ve feared the ocean. The sea is very romantic, but I would be too nervous the entire time. Jaws proved in that first scene of the movie-like Jason from Friday the 13th-that he won’t put up with bad behavior like pot-smoking or sex. Aside from Jaws, there are all sorts of other creatures out there. While walking in the ocean I’ve stepped on some unidentified crustaceous creatures and we’ve both scuttled along away from one another in fear.

Do you use sex toys?

Maybe it’s safer on shore? No way– because sand gets into everything. It has a mind of its own. Sand makes sex uncomfortable and even painful. My solution is to try to get a place by the beach and do it out on the porch where you can see and hear the waves: Sex at the beach, but not on the beach.

Sex in the Shower

I once tried this, but the entire time I was trying to contort my body so that I could get everything inserted correctly. That “up against the wall” variation is tougher than it sounds. I have this terrible fear every time in the shower (with or without a girl), I’m going to slip and crack my skull open. The entire shower apparatus is so slippery, and then you have soap all over the place. It’s a danger zone.

Plus, I do my best to keep my bathroom clean, but I don’t think I’d ever want to have sex anywhere near something called “mildew”.
