Amerie showed off her new blonde hairdo at a Grey Goose event in Dallas, Texas this weekend.The gorgeous singer has joined the club alongside Cassie and Mya who recently dyed their jet black manes bleach blonde. We’re not sure if we’re loving this look.

Amerie on why she went platinum:

“I’ve always wanted to go platinum blonde, and I figured I’d finally just do it,” she says “One of the things that inspired me are photos I’ve seen of children in the Solomon Islands. They are very brown-skinned, and a lot of them grow white-blonde hair naturally. The contrast in dark skin tone and extremely light hair is really beautiful to me. So I just went for it!”

FROM RAP-UP: If you see Amerie’s name spelled with two Is from now on, that’s not a typo. The “1 Thing” singer has officially changed the spelling of her name.

The Grammy-nominated artist, who now goes by Ameriie, added an “I” to her name to reflect positive energy. She announced the change to Rap-Up.com last month, but didn’t go public with it until her new Twitter page (@ItsAmeriie) was set up.

Ameriie has been in the studio working on the follow-up to last year’s In Love & War called Cymatika Vol. 1 (which was also originally spelled with a “c” before it was changed to a “k”), named after the study of visible sound and vibration.

“I’m still in the studio right now, so the best thing I can say is it’s a very international, worldly sound.” SOURCE

The “It” factor.  Do you have it? The “It” factor is that special something that a person has that makes other people want to pay attention to them. It is that je ne sais quois.  It is that something that makes others believe that you are indeed special, unique, talented etc… The “It” factor is something that most assume all entertainers, singers, rappers etc possesses and that might be true. In which case, one could stand to argue that if every entertainer has the “It” factor then why is it that certain ones proceed to shine and garner more attention than others? Could it simply be explained by saying that one person has an abundant supply of the “It factor”.  Are some entertainers more gifted in that area?

Kelis On Other Female Artists: There Is No Competition

Let’s take a look at R and B and some of the more mainstream female entertainers of the time. Have you ever wondered why someone like Keyshia Cole sells more albums and is overall more popular than say Amerie? Both of them are attractive women so we can’t blame it on fans being prejudice to the less pretty girl. They both were at one point on major labels. Neither of the two have a more remarkable singing voice or range of talent than the other. Keyshia writes much of her own music while Amerie can play various instruments which she implements in her sound.   I would say that they are about even. Yet it is obvious that in this duo that Keyshia is the more successful entertainer.  What does Keyshia have that Amerie does not?

Another example would be between Brandy and Beyonce. The two “B”s. Both have been in the entertainment business since their childhood. Both had a parent manage their career. Both have made the cross over from music to film. Both are attractive women (although some argue that Brandy is not pretty in the tradition sense).  Both have been successful in their album sales. However, as of recent years singer Brandy has not been able to properly re-launch her career as to compete with the level of an ever popular Beyonce.

Why? What is it about these two groups of singers that make one of the two more popular and more successful?  Is it based completely up to the fans? If so how do fans choose? Work ethic maybe? Beyonce for example is known for being a hard worker in her field and even refusing to take breaks. While Brandy has had her career halted at one point to become a mother and raise her child.  It could be argued that during Brandy’s break from music the “It” factor somehow escaped her. Perhaps this is why beyonce refuses to take an extended break from her career. She is afraid that the special something that she has and that fans feel she has more importantly will expire.  Is it really that easy or are there deeper reasons behind the success and or lack of success in their careers?

What do you define as the “It” factor and who possess it? Can a performer loose the “It” factor if they take a break from entertainment? Have you heard of the phrase if you don’t use it, you lose it? Do fans decide who has the “It” factor and for how long or is it completely up to the performer and their own personal drive and abilities?

The R&B star shows us her well-edited wardrobe, a sexy mix of designer gems (including an impressive collection of Alexander Wang), wild accessories (think Pamela Love talon claws and Bliss Lau body chains), and a droolworthy closet of killer footwear.

Amerie also did a shoot for Complex Magazine, rocking some hot, somewhat-edgy looks.  Something about her Complex shoot reminds us of a particular RiRi outfit; but hey, we’re just saying!

Amerie is definitely on her grind promoting her new album. For someone who stresses that she is an entertainer and not a model, she sure is working the fashion circuit quite hard; but we don’t mind.

What are your favorite tracks on the album?
“Heard ‘Em All” is one because it’s a high performance record. I love to dance and everything and give it high energy. “Why R U” is also one of my favorite songs. There’s another song on the album called “Higher” which is kind of like a rock, but not like an alternative rock, it’s more like a bluesy soulful ’60s-’70s era rock.

Describe your experience filming and shooting in preparation for the album.
[Shooting] “Why R U” was a lot of fun. It was really just trying to figure out how we were gonna get the right visual because it’s a very emotional record, but at the same time it’s very hip-hop and it’s very strong. So I really wanted something that was very clean but something that was really graphic. Even with the album packaging, it wasn’t about just having a flat picture. I wanted it to be sort of 3-dimensional, I wanted to play around with illustrations. I didn’t want it to feel like “Here I am, here’s a bunch of pictures,” because I am an entertainer, I’m not a model. I don’t pretend to be, I’m 5’5″. I wanted the album packaging to really embody what the music is and, so I was like if there’s just one picture of me, that’s fine and the rest of it can be illustration or whatever, I just want it to be tight. I really wanted a tension between love, war, soft, hard, happiness, and pain – all of those things. READ MORE BELOW THE GALLERY!

What are your Fall season must-haves?
Well, I always said the only thing I like about cold weather is Fall fashion. That’s what I always say because I do not like the cold. My shoulders are permanently hunched up when it’s cold outside, but I love layering my looks. I love boots and I love beiges, creams, brown, gray, and winter white. And coats, I’m really into coats.

Does it come naturally to you to embody both your Korean and African-American cultures?
My mother tells me that every time her friends come over they always comment about how Korean I am because, I guess, I have a lot of Korean ways – I don’t know exactly what that is. And they always say that my sisters a little more American than I am, which is funny because actually she looks more Asian than I do, but when you grow up in a house – and culturally my mothers very Korean – you get used to speaking to people in a certain way, especially adults, you automatically step down a few levels, and you talk to them in this way (bows), and you’re constantly nodding and listening. You definitely have a certain respect for your elders.

I don’t normally wear wedges, but these Louis Vuitton suede booties with rabbit fur trim are one of the exceptions. I call these my “deer hoof boots”, because the heel is surprisingly high and causes such a high arch, it makes the foot look super tiny, and with the wedge, it can look like a little animal foot…in the cutest way a girl’s foot could look like an animal’s…I guess. :)

I totally love Amerie! I think she’s really talented and hasn’t gotten the kind of fame she deserves. Plus she’s gorgeous and a sweetheart!

That being said, I am not sure the artwork for her upcoming album, “In Love & War”, is the right direction. I mean, the pictures are okay, but aren’t as spunky as they could (or should) be.

The album is Amerie’s debut at Def Jam and is slated to drop on November 3rd.
