Its always important for you to find what looks best on you when looking for a new hairstyle. If you are also looking for something that will be equally appealing to your mate, look no further.

Cosmopolitan‘s beauty experts have complied a list of the top 8 hairstyles that men love. Check out these tips to help you achieve styles that are both alluring and fabulous:

Straight Up Sexy

Why Guys Love It: From an evolutionary perspective, guys subconsciously like hair that looks clean and healthy. “Hair that’s in top condition shows that you have a balanced diet and good health — signs of an ideal mate,” says biological anthropologist Helen Fisher PhD.

How to Get It: Work a silicone-based straightening serum through damp hair before blow-drying. Clip locks in 4-6 sections depending on how thick your hair is. Then tackle one at a time with a paddle brush and a blow-dryer equipped with a nozzle pointed straight down. Finish with a light shine spray.

Bombshell Blowout

Why Guys Love It: Every guy loves to run their fingers through smooth, shiny hair. “Shine draws guys in because it’s a sign of youth and vitality,” adds Fisher.

How to Get It: Apply smoothing cream to damp hair. While blow-drying, use a medium-sized round brush and work from the bottom layers up. Pin the top portion out of your way and point the nozzle down to flatten the cuticle. When your mane is dry, mist on a thermal-straightening spray (the kind heat activates like Dove Heat Defense Therapy Mist, $5). Glide a flatiron over strands to kill any flyaways and seal in silkiness. Rake a tiny drop of shine serum through ends with your fingers for a superglossy movie-star finish.

Bad Girl Bump

Why Guys Love It: The small pouf (and we’re not talking The Snookie here) adds a subtle dose of glamour to any look. That’s why it’s such a hot red-carpet go-to. “Wearing your hair up bares your most seductive features, like your neck and shoulders,” explains celeb stylist Ken Paves.

How to Get It: Part dry, straight hair from above the arches of each brow back to the crown to create a mini ponytail. Twist the top of the tail, and push hair forward to create volume, then secure with a large barrette or bobby pins. Gather the rest into a bun and mist with a holding spray (try Vavoom Shapemaker Shaping Spray, $15).

Sexy Shag

Why Guys Love It: This style shows off the neck and frames your face with its short bob. “Short and choppy, the new bob accentuates your cheekbones and eyes,” says celeb stylist Oscar Blandi.

How to Get It: Start with a protective styling spray to maintain shine like Got2b Guardian Angel Protect N’ Blow Out Lotion and Gloss Finish, $6. Then, divide hair into two-inch sections and blow-dry straight. Finish by using a flat-iron to flip out your ends slightly.

Relaxed Updo

Why Guys Love It: Bun looks simple and elegant yet still touchable. The hair that falls into the face prevents the updo from looking too severe. “Men couldn’t care less if your strands are perfectly styled and neat. In fact, he might like you more with some wildness or bedhead, since it shows you’re carefree and relaxed,” says Fisher.

How to Get It: Make a low side ponytail, leaving a few pieces loose around your face. Twist the length of your ponytail, and wrap it into a figure-eight shape — smoosh it up against your scalp, and tuck the ends into the loop. Insert a few hairpins or tiny barrettes to lock it all in place. Finish with a mist of light-weight hair spray that’ll give you extra hold minus any stickiness, like Paul Mitchell Worked Up, $15.

Sexy Side Pony

Why Guys Love It: “An asymmetrical updo is universally flattering for all face shapes because nobody’s features are perfectly aligned,” says NYC celeb stylist Nathaniel Hawkins. That means a side pony is an easy way to make sure no one notices your flaws. This look is soft without looking sloppy or overdone.

How to Get It: Rub on a smoothing gel like L’Oreal Professional Texture Expert Gelee Riche, $20 through wet strands. Blow-dry hair over to one side to create hold. Then use your fingers to gather hair low under the ear and secure with an elastic band (keep it loose so the bun doesn’t look too prissy).

Schoolgirl Pony

Why Guys Love It: Play up your naughty cheerleader with this easy updo. The look works best when the pony is a bit relaxed. “Loose hair with tons of movement is such a hot look,” says Tresemme stylist Nathaniel Hawkins.

How to Get It : Set hair with styling cream then curl with a medium barrel iron from ears to ends. Using a fine-tooth comb, sweep hair up, secure it directly above your crown, then wrap a few strands around the elastic. Mist on hair spray for hold.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/mscaramelle/ mscaramelle

I think they’re lovin’ the women that wear the styles more than the styles.

I agree with all of you! I have natural curls and I’ll take the real deal anyday.

    Cheers!

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/samsthewon/ samsthewon

I’ll have to agree with MSCARAMELLE,on this one.Like the short Halle Berry, due…I’m not so much into the really short hair on women. But most men don’t care…they just like HALLE!…I think the ponytail due…when it’s done right is “HOTT” as hell. Not if you’re 500lbs. though.Just like they should have a weight rating on…SPANDEX!

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/Xema88/ Xema88

The important key is just as long you take care of yourself including your hair you’ll be fine. Men tend to like woman/women who take care of themselve. I just don’t want ya’ll to think that this is the only hairstyles that you should do to attract a your future or potential mate. They’ll just love you for who you are. :)

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/BoweryBetty/ BoweryBetty

This ‘poll’ or whatever you want to call it reflects the never-ending, self-hating reality women of color — and other women who struggle with accepting their naturally curly/kinky/coily, textured hair — face in the shadow of Anglo/European standards of beauty. It’s beyond insulting (and debilitating). Has anyone seen Chris Rock’s doc**entary called “Good Hair”?

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/BoweryBetty/ BoweryBetty

I can’t believe the way the filter just edited my word — anyways, it sounds like docYOOmentary

    Not a single afrocentric hairstyle!!!
If a black woman put this together you are pathetic!
And don’t give me your dumbass arguments about it’s a style preference bs.
Even if it is a style preference it indicates that you don’t prefer to be connected to yourself.
It further says that black men don’t like for black women to look like black women.
How FU can you people be???

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/affropuffs/ affropuffs

Where is the afro!? The cornrows!? Braids!? Why is it all straight hairstyles!!!??? I think they need to retitle this article 8 Hairstyles that White Men Love! Cause ain’t no black woman born with silky, how did they put it.. “smooth, shiny hair”. Y’all need to get a grip!

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/big_girl_gone_good/ big_girl_gone_good

Not really girl @affropuffs…black men love, love, love long straight hair too.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/Just_Da_Vibes/ Just_Da_Vibes

I hope the next time a similar article is written it will encompass wider variety styles including very short, afro, locks and twists, the list continues.

The styles shown above eluded to the European culture which itself is ok, but on this particular platform you need show a broader appreciation of all our cultures

Short or long looks great on all women. http://www.moderndayblackmomma.com
    Gen Eyes Wide…listen real good.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/Gods_chosenman/ Gods_chosenman

afros arent particularly sexy neither are cornrows they scream hoodchick. I like alot of the looks the women are wearing. Why would i ask my woman to wear cornrows or braids when they are no longer instyle? I dont particularly like the straight hair either…but I love alot of these looks on Black women. Most black men do because it means your stylish, sophisticated and not a hood booger.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/22andlovingit1/ 22andlovingit1

oh please most of these stlyes need to be done over they look a mess

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/Kris_87/ Kris_87

um, Cosmo is a mag which caters to white women. so why on earth would you publish a story from them? if you wanna use a hair article from a mag, use Sophisticate’s Black Hair or its equivalent. after all, BP is a site for black people…or have you forgotten that, HB??

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/thekid1986/ thekid1986

They didnt mention dreads, and ive seen alot of women look maad cute with some dreads, even pursued one and got her # lol .Cornrows looks hot sometimes too .For me though ,doesnt matter what you do with it,as long as you look cute with whatever you do,and my fingers dont smell funny after i run them through ,im good.

Why HB got no natural hair up? SMH

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/Sub-Negro/ Sub-Negro

Well they did say MEN not BLACKMEN! While I do like straight hair I prefer the natural/wild look liek uhm Joan from Girlfriends. Amazing that they don’t have any black styles in here but oh well.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/ladymizvee/ ladymizvee

I’m a little surprised no natural hairstyles (braids or locs) were shown, but then again, the article is not about all the versatile styling options for black women, but the styles that men love. And black men love the women who are pictured, and their hair, so I think it all makes sense.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/Mr_Patches/ Mr_Patches

I loved all the hairstyles. Sexy and elegant. Just the way I like it.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/SLAbron2001/ SLAbron2001

Sadly enough, to much readers’ chagrin this article is accurate. These are the hairstyles that most black men gravitate towards. I have the most feared and reviled hair type: natural, kinky hair. I live in Atlanta. Oddly, I get a lot more attention from white men, though. For women with natural hair, you also have to have as “Sub-Negro” posted below hair like “Joan from Girlfriends” or what we call good hair in ordered to really be considered by black men here. There are only a handful of them that actually PREFER natural hairstyles from. A lot of women here posting are justifiably angry on here for the lack of respect natural black hairstyles get, but unfortunately, this is a reality. This IS what Black men love. Unfortunately, this is what they want and a lot of time, even a short hairstyle, like Halle’s won’t cut it…they want long, straight hair.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/mzmac2979/ mzmac2979

@SLAbron2001 SOOO SAD BUT SOOO TRUE. I am a natural girl too. I guessed passed by all the time. But the older men and the white men and women love it!!!! Now, if I am rockin’ a sew-in or the micros that I have now, black men check me out left and right.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/Jenmay_655/ Jenmay_655

few women can try that sexy hair style!first you should posses a round shape head ,second you should be cute and pretty ,third you can’t try this 8 style if the shape of your face is long and bony.this style is like for models like megan fox also.and angelina jolie

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/Ladyd121/ Ladyd121

Do men even pay attention to hairstyles?” I know my man dont he is more worried about getting some from me every night. Amber Rose your sexy girl!!!!!!!!

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/Ladyd121/ Ladyd121

This is bulls**t they say the same about fragrances and stuff too oh men like this and that! whatever I wear and do what I like my man obviously loves the way I look or he would have never asked me for my # that day but like I said all men want is p***y anyhow so really I dont think they are going to care about your hairstyle when its time to do it!

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/KINESHIA/ KINESHIA

Well I wear My Real Hair Wavy or str8. Um get all races eitha way use 2 wear long long braids back in the day They loved that LOL point is I wear my hair how I want which is natural now ” nothing fake!!!! Best way 2 go

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/KINESHIA/ KINESHIA

Ill all your man is worried bout is gettin some from you

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/KINESHIA/ KINESHIA

@ godschosenman how The f**k is a Afro or corn rows Hoodish??

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/BlackSouljahGFX/ BlackSouljahGFX

Eh, personally I tend to dig natural hair. I’m pretty open though. To me the style isn’t really all that important as long as it looks good on “her”, but some women need to realize what looks good on one woman doesn’t always look good on you.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/GiGi_Ambition/ GiGi_Ambition

The hair style means nothing if your face is not for it. Plain and simple. As far as “all my man is worried about is getting some” then why is he your “man” no he is your Boyfriend. Your “man” will love you even if your hair is wet from coming out of the shower. It is you not just your hair. Your hair tops YOU off. The ladies above have a versatile face which can go with just about any style. They well some of them look lovely to add. But ladies don’t turn green…

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/masculine31/ masculine31

I LIKE ANYTHING EXCEPT *FAKE HAIR*

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/That_sexy_white_girl/ That_sexy_white_girl

i love havin straight hair it blows in the wind and the guys i date love it :)

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/kaikai7/ kaikai7

Some styles are classic, simple and timeless which means that they will always look good! I love Halle with the short pixie! I just think that short hair is becoming to some women and Halle is one of them, Eva Marcelle is another, the female that played Byrd on Soul food is another one, and the list goes on! Long hair can look nice! I happen to rock both ,depending on my mood.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/1blackwoman4me/ 1blackwoman4me

A black woman can wear her hair any way and it looks beautiful. The media puts to much emphasis on hair. Those pics are great, but I love the afro look as well, hell a black woman can shave her head bald and still look great. I think a woman should wear her hair however she wants. God Bless.
